  1. hold the pick near the tip, and let your thumb brush the string as you pick, you have to do it over a harmonic place though. then vibrato it a bit
  2. well, id be stealiung it from him since he dont play no more, but i was just askin bout the buckers cuz if memory serves me right, theyre pretty distorted and good for dirty playing.
  3. lemme talk to a freind of mine, he has an old dean v, i might have to peel a sticker or two off of the headstock, but its the right style. its got a good neck though. if i stole it from him, would you mind if i jacked the humbuckers out??
  4. i think this calls for a new poll. and to the guy who dissed Peavey.. what amps have YOU been playing?? the peavey solidstates sound better than most tube amps in the same price range
  5. is there a list of "hardwoods" on here? *is very unknowing about wood, well, THAT kind of wood at least *
  6. ok ok, new idea, im gona do the pine as a test, but how does fir do in guitars??
  7. i stopped scooping, it sounds better if you boost teh mids and the highs, more beef to it i think personaly, the shred should come from the distortion more than the EQ, but hte EQ molds youre sound
  8. yea, youre playing it a bit wrong, if i had a server, id totally record it and put it up, but i dont.. so yea.. if you cant figure it out then theres always www.tabcrawler.com or www.mxtabs.net
  9. im guessing youre going for a big shreddy kind of sound, so ill do what i can. i dont know about the preamp question so ill leave that to someone else, but no, you dont NEED a big stereo preamp, im sure it would be a nicety. you could probably get away with the amps regular preamp too. most of the "metal" sound you speak of comes from EQing and a few select overdrive/distortion mixes. your POD probably has most of the stuff you need in it, but i dont know sh*t about PODs, having never used one. another load of youre sound would of course come from your guitar's pickups, im guessing a high output humbucker would be what you need. but since you asked for a high-tech, here i go ill take a bit of a clue from KK downing of judas preist, since youve got a similar set up as it is rack: rocktron pirrhana POD(i dont know sh*t about these, remember, but im guessing you can either mount it or run it through the loop) with an MIDI controller Tuner EQ(you could do a pedal too, but a rackmount is probably best) head: something HIGH GAIN, like a peavey, line 6 or marshall jcm or something with a good clean channel to run a dist box through(or you could use your POD for that) Floor pedals: wah, cuz wahs rock and you can fiddle to get em to add to your sound Dist box, like maybe a line 6 uber metal or a DOD death metal, these are both nice dist boxes a big multi effect, cuz multi effects rule. doubt me, i dare you. and then the big thing for sound, EQ for a super shreddy sound, you can scoop mids. this will always sound "metal" but it has too many downfalls at times or you can boost the mids and highs, like i am currently. this will give you a GREAT sound if you do it right. speakers: 412s are almost required. but, if you want to, im sure you could get away with a 410 and a 115. this is more youre choice than anything i guess thats all i can think of off the top of my head and since everyone else is doing their rig, heres mine ibanez rg421 into a peavey bandit(or my marshall, but the peavey sounds way better) with an EQ of low-6 mid-7 high-8 on "modern" style. and sometimes i throw an external eq in and a flanger, but not always. yea, its that simple, and it sounds plenty
  10. ok but since im gonna be using mahogany as a top, would pine be alright for the rest of the body? its prett much gonna be a test guitar, but i intend for it to sound good. i know the pickups are most of it, so im going for a carvin, they intrigue me.
  11. well, its kinda cuz i have it.. would the mahogany help out any?
  12. mmmmmmm truth to them words. given that peavey heads just f'in rock anymore, ss or tube. i actually like the ss' better i think. even though the jsx just makes me cream my pants.. i played on one of them once... OMG!!! <3<3<3
  13. what kind of sound would a pine with mahogany top body have? mahoganys bright, but i dont know about pine. thanks from teh noobie guitar builder
  14. wheres the peavey?? wheres the rest of the awesome brands??
  15. can anybody cad this thingy out for me?? the white one!
  16. heres the cutout with a ruler, and the cutout next to my rg421. id love to see a CAD pic of this. is that too much of a size difference or not?
  17. i believe you mean "is what it looks like" lol
  18. if i had the cash and time and experience, however little is needed, i would totally do it, but im workin on my first one right now, and im running into a little problem of how thick i can make it, which means im gonna bring it up top again i guess
  19. rockin design man. id love a geetar with that shape. but i wont even attempt that for a long while
  20. since i have no cad knowledge, this is something i could probably use too. from the "cutout"(right side) area to the horn it measures just shy of 23(probably about 22 9/10) cm (cant remember the mm conversion for the life of me, sorry), the widest area is 24 1/2 cm. if im doing this wrong or whatever then sorry, but id love to see the cad drawing. i have a fullsize paper cutout that im measuring it from since the pic is a bit off (i trimmed the horn down a lot, looks more like the lower horn on an ibanez) when i find the cam, ill post a new pic. thanks
  21. ok, i kinda got an idea, and i dont know how crazy this is, but could i use pine wood and just use the mahogany as the top??
