  1. well, i forgot to take my template in to class today, so i couldnt do any work on the actual thing. I wont be able to do anything till after the christmas break, unless santa brings me a bandsaw. Im building it out of ash with a maple neck, 24 fret rosewood board. Im really looking forward to starting this project now.
  2. That sounds like a really cool idea, itl be intresting if you can do it.
  3. Gliter and glue most probs, and i wouldnt put it past him to do that either. He's got some nice ash sitting in his room, but he wont touch it, he's making a J-bass out of that. I went round to his house and i hear the wail of a jig saw, you know somthings bad then. And i thought puting LED's in a encore neck was bad...
  4. This has to be the weirdest thing ive EVER seen him do, ever. This used to be a no-name p-bass copy, now its mildly dead, he thinks it will work out ok 'in the end' Here it is.Bass That stuff is sparkley glitter stuff thats literaly stuck on with PVA glue. My god he's daft.
  5. Thats one nice acoustic, i love the figure of the back and sides, and the colour makes it even nicer.
  6. Nulled my vote, there wasnt Hughes and Kettner, i absolutly love the edition blue amp they have in my local music shop. Theyre amp heads are amazing too.
  7. I used to hate Tele's too, then i played one. I used to like SG's till i played one, i couldnt gel with it like my Les Paul, i dont know why, they have the same bridge and neck. Thers something that just doesnt work for me in SG's.
  8. Hmm, yeh, i dont personaly see the atraction to SG's, there hidious IMO. I'd go with a tele, but each to his own i spose.
  9. I would think an SG would be a good first project, they look fairly simple (i havnt actaully built a guitar, but i know a fair bit about wood work) they have a beveld edge, provided you take your time itl be good, im sure. If you are still unsure about building your own body, get one from warmoth, there good bodys. Good luck with it whatever way you choose to go.
  10. jer7440 - Received this morning, thanks a bunch. Hotrock - This first one is a prototype, the i can get my tech teacher to modify the drawing for me (he couldnt do it, thats why i asked here) Were getting some new tools in the department, and a 3D computer router is one of them, i spose that the same as CNC. This one is being cut out in a band saw and routed by hand. Im kind of a guinea pig, more people are building guitars for there final exam in wood work now, so he wants me to find good methods and what not. Another reason for the CAD is we need to produce a working drawing, witch is done in CAD. I never took graph comm so i dont know how to use it. Anyway, im goin to make my template now.
  11. Wow, thanks, 8mm is nothing, but if you have the time to do it even more acurate then thatd be great.
  12. Im not too sure, but i think getting a peice of wood of the same type as your bass, cutting it to the size and thikness you need then glue it in. Then you only need to fill anysmall gaps.
  13. OK, i have a detaild drawing. Is this any good? Detaild Drawing Dimensions: The neck pocket is 54mm wide, the distance from the bottom of the body to the top of the neck pocket is 422mm, the distance from the bottom of the body to the top of the left horn is 530mm, at its widest point it is 350mm, at its thinest point it is 222mm. If you need more info just ask, i dont know what dimensions you need, thats the only ones i could think are vital. Please ignore the pick-up routing locations in the drawing.
  14. , sorry, i was real tierd when i posted that. So, do you reckon you could help me?
  15. Yeh, i just found out i suck at CAD, and i need a drawing done, the thing is its a custom design so i cant just find one on the net. So baisicly i was wondering weather anyone here would be kind enough to do it for me. That it. The dimensions are 530mm from the bottom to the top horn, and 350mm at its widest point. Thanks in advance.
  16. I think its a nice tele too, but itl look so much nicer with a trans maple top. If you did do that mock up in PS can you tell me how you did it please?
  17. I too am building my own les paul. ccbrian, i click your link but the page is unavailable.
  18. Wraith this is what i thought it looked a bit like, i just found a pic now.
  19. Wooooooooow, thats sweet, it kinda reminds me of a Vintage Wraith a bit, just better and more pointy. I'd be scared if i saw that thing coming towards me in a dark allyway, and thats a good thing btw
  20. I love tele's, i love the shape, i love the sound, i love the headstock.... There just briliant
  21. Thanks for that info. I think theres a guy who could do a flake finish for me across town, i'll look into that next weekend.
  22. Im 15, male, live in scotland, hopfully will get hierd soon by the local music shop, probibly not tho as he's promised me a job for the last 6 months. Thats on funny post rick_here
  23. Thats a sweet looking guitar you got there VanKirk. I was thinking along the lines of a flat-top tele too, i just love my LP too much. I will be ordering the wood today so i have to decide on what finish i want, solid or translucent. I say this because theres no point buying expensive quilt maple just to cover it up in paint.
  24. I have acsess to my schools woodwork department, so i have vurtualy every tool at my disposal. I did see that rout in steps then sand them to the contours you want method, it sounds fairly straight forward. Having my own LP already makes it a little easyer to get the top right i 'spose.
