  1. I do not have a large ammount of experience with wood working, but have alot of experience with finding things on the net. I only searched around a little before school on the main site's supply section and found a couple useful sites, some might require resawing but I think the look is worth it.
  2. My mom works for a powder coating company that tried to apply their product to guitars, but when baking the wood, though properly dried, sweat and ruined the finish. I dont know any of the specifics of the problems, but all I know is I got two free guitar bodies out of the hundreds they were throwing out. It was a deal for me
  3. Cudbucket, I think he was talking about strips to laminate, not veneer for suface mounting. Sometimes I assume though and usually I'm wrong.
  4. I have heard that soulmate makes wonderful necks, and their neck through necks are beutiful!
  5. Pr3ValiL: Are you a Sheep????? Also, Lord of The Strings: you probably shouldnt just jump right into gluing, i dont know if thats what you were planning, but i think its important to do the calculations.
  6. I agree with tirapop. The right side of the guitar is really awesome but the left upper bout is slightly larger than the mind expects it to be. (sometimes i sound stupid when im trying to sound smart)
  7. i like the green and the pink the most.
  8. I have two quick quesitons, When you put the aluminum sheet metal over the top of the guitar, wont it be hard to bend it to the contours on your mock up drawing. In particular, the upper arm contour seems oddly shaped, not like a normal strats contour that would only require a straigt bend. Also if you moved the cutaway in question up like 3 or four frets, then made a sort of carve in the wood that replaced the cutaway, would that satisfy both the design and practical problems. I don't really know if it will help out, but i think a thinner bit of wood between your fingers and their destination might make reaching the frets easier.
  9. Hi godin, I loved your first project, especially the fretboard. I think this body design could use a little work, personally the upper horn seems a little longish and pointy. I dont know what might fix it but i will play around with it and see what happens. Otherwise, I love the shape of the lower bout and lower horn. Here is what i did in like three minutes. I think i like the way that the upper horn comes back into the body a little only because it keeps your eyes on the guitar. Like my art teacher says, A good composition leads the natural flow of the eye back into the work (or something crazy like that.) any way i didnt want to make a new post so here it is, what do you think?? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/sas...godindesign.jpg
  10. hey korge, no flame just the burst, also it was only an idea, i havent done a real finish (yet) but i just thought it would look cool
  11. That looks beutiful. Also im really glad you showed that middle step, between the first and second stains (the sand back i guess). i always wondered how far back all of the great sand back to make it that awesome, now i know.
  12. hey this is what i was talking about with the gradient and the checker pattern. I was bored so i made a pretty crappy image, it conveys the idea though what do you guys think of it?
  13. Wow, personally i dislike hot topic alot. But to each his own. In general though, i dont like the way that store sells things or something like that, well i really dont know why i dont like it but i dont. Any way, dont you think airbrushing laces would wash off in rain, then it would look like crap. Either way, we should probaly talk about guitars and not shoes seeing as it is a guitar forum .
  14. When i saw your guitar i was amazed. Then i had a great idea for my own guitar, a checkerboard with a gradient on the white squares. I think i would paint it with a one way sort of burst, like on the sg supremes, then mask it and paint a coat of black (or some other color). It would look like this awsome pair of vans i saw and loved. Thatnks for showing that it could be done.
  15. I completely agree with masterminds on that. To my, only slightly trained, ear (only 3 or 4 years of musical training) it still sounds off on instruments that are not innotated correctly. I have never heard it on any of my guitars but a dulcimer I have has a floating bridge and when it is in the wrog spot you can tell on the higher frets.
  16. Hey My Buddy is selling his older BC rich on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Its a pretty nice guitar, one of the custom shops i think. (i know little about them but it has a kill switch and push pull coil tapping and other things not standard to other Richs ) Cya
  17. other (SKA, Regaee (spelling), Dub, Rocksteady, etc.)
  18. Oh man, im gonna cry. My first ever guitar is an ovation, and i love playing it. i never played a new one but mine is an early 70's celebrity. (in fact i think they just did some reissue of it or something) I really love it, and it has mucho sentimental value. I guess i will have to play a new one to see how they compare.
  19. Hello Sorry about the delay with the body pictures but ive been very busy (i got to g see the Salvador Dali exhibition at the Philly Museum of Art) but here they are Front: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/sashimimi/front.jpg Back: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/sashimimi/Back.jpg Side: (contours that i added with an orbital sander and a belt sander, they still need work though): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/sas...idecontours.jpg
  20. thanks for the kind words Blue
  21. Hi blackburn, I just email pete and asked for a quote. Also i listened to the sound samples and they sound awesome, i only hope the price is not trough the roof because like i mentioned before im a pretty big slacker with out a job. (and I possess minimal ability to write a comprehendable sentance, I might add) thanks for the great tip
  22. im gonna take pictures right now of it. The reason im mot apprehensive of a pickgaurd is im gonna do a solid color finish that will be completely opaque. (not in the mood for a figured beauty, just a workhorse to take out instead of my les paul)
  23. Hello. I know nothing about stenciling guitars. (i know what your thinking "then why the heck is this stupid kid posting here). But if you are interested in stenciling and making your own stencils (2 and 3 color) then you might be interested in: http://www.stencilrevolution.com/homepage.php . There is some awesome artists and 1 or 2 good tutorials.
  24. Hi again. Thanks for all the replys, im supposed to be working on a research paper about the treaty of paris of 1763 right now but as soon as i get the time i will check out those singlecoil sized p-90's. One thing about the normal sized p-90's is that the guitar i have is not front routed like a strat. It has a rear conrol cavity with the pickup cavities routed in the top. Do you think i should just slap a pickgaurd on there like a strat (not exactly the same. That way i could rout a cavity like the universal pickup bodies from warmoth. What do you guys think of this idea.
