  1. i think the curvey one looks pretty cool, it's kinda like the jackson roswell rhoads roswell
  2. i don't think that guitar looks too good either, but here is a cooler looking painted fret board, it is from amir derakh's (the synth guitar player from orgy) website. sweedish camo charvel there are more guitars on his site that have painted fretboards, but they are all solid colors with inlays, and don't look as cool as this one
  3. there is also the schecter damien series that has bats flying up the fret board shcecter but i dont think they are nearly as impressive as that cradle of filth prs, and the giant 12th fret bat idea sounds pretty cool too
  4. before i start i just wanna say that the Impaler is one of the coolest body desgins i've seen. but any way, i thought i'd try to help out a little with the headstock design. i keep a file in the program htat i like to use to draw stuff in (macromedia flash) just as a doodle pad basicly, and sometimes things that look like they'd make cool guitar bodies or head stocks pop up. here are all the ones i had on the page that didn't belong to any particular body, but i'm not sure if any of them but the middle one would actually work as a functional headstock
  5. im gunna assume that you were talking about my pic, thanks. hopfuly ill be able to actually build one like eventually
  6. here is my purple les paul that i imported into macromedia flash (i know its for animation, but i like the tools it has, and i dont have photo shop) and gave it a "halloween gothic" theme that i eventually want to do on a simi-hollow les paul shaped guitar i plan to make in the future. i added bat shaped sound holes, and a crappy spider inlay on the 12th fret
  7. i know , i didn't take any offence to any of your comments. thanks, i'll need the luck if making a playable guitar your first time around is as difficult as everyone says it is
  8. you definitely have a point there. i wasn't thinking "will this guitar sell" when i was drawing it, i was thinking "dose that look cool to me", and besides this guitar is probably not gunna get built any time soon. there are gunna be several guitars that i build in front of this one, because i want to be sure i can handle normal guitars before i start attempting out of the ordinary guitars. and you did have a point with this one until i spent a few hours yesterday deciding the final dimensions and placment of the hardware/electronics.
  9. on steven mcswain's web site he said it is "3/8" doweling that was painstakingly cut(86 peices), and recessed..." and thats all i know about it. it was probably glued on. EDIT: go to www.mcswin guitars.com, and it's in the blade and paint section. there is a picture of an old guitar he made for the same guy thats exactly the same, only maroon and white
  10. thanks man. origonaly those horns were turned upwardw toward the headstock, but that made it look way too long.
  11. dude, i have never made a guitar before, i dont think it would be that easy to get someone to give me money to make a guitar when i have had absolutly no experience. but thanks for the suggestion. edit: oh yeah, and in 2 weeks i should know if i have a job that i went for a second interview for today, if that works out, the building should start in the next few months
  12. yeah, thats one of the things i need to fix, i should probably shorten the pointy peices that are hanging down, and curve the inside more so that there's more room
  13. I started gathering up tools and materials to build my first guitar, but just as i was getting the last of it together i found my self without a job. so since i dont have any guitars to share, i thought i'd share my ideas/ ddesigns, and see what you guys think. my plans for my first guitar are an eipihpone V with a poplar body (some cheap stuff i found) and maple neck with a pre radiused and slotted ebony fingerboard. in addition to that, im planning on adding somthing that should give it a little bit more stlye, i saw this dowling on the les pauls that steven mcswain (mc swain guitars, e)made for P.Exter blue from deadsy a pic i want to do that on my V only i want it a little bigger, and its going to be black with green dowling. even though i barley got started on that project with all the free time i had i was able to think up plans for 2 more, the second will be a 5 string les paul bass with a halloween gothic (bats and spooky tress) theme. and the third is a completely origonal design that i drew in flash, keep in mid that it is not perfect yet, and it its only a line drawing and is not even close to in any scale... (i tried to make sure that it was under 600 pixles on any side, but it still looks a little big to me) this one will proabably be a guitar first, and if i get that to work a bass. the firs one i talked about will definatly get done, but the second 2 i don't even have definate plans made yet
  14. i like the headstock the way it is, although making it more evil looking couldn't hurt. either way it got my vote
  15. i like the first one the best, it remids me of a dean ml only poiniter. the second one looks really cool too
  16. yeah, that is pretty cool. I was thinking of doing a duct tape finish on my warlock, but to be a little diffrent i was thinking about doing it in the regular grey duct tape first, and then doing some kind of design in colored duct tape
  17. the one i bought has a diffrent brand name at the top of the package, but at the bottom in little print it says manufactured by mighy might, so i assume its pretty close to that bridge. and at first i thought that it said that the bushings were included, but when i read it agin i think is just saying that it fits standard posts and bushings (but it did come with the posts), but thanks for the input
  18. thanks for the help every one. slayer63636- those are the first ones i found, the bottom end of the post is bigger than the post of mine, so it wouldn't work, but thanks any way Setch- i get exactly what your saying to do, thats how i was thinking about doing it, but i wasn't sure if it was the right way, thanks
  19. i bought a tun-o-matic bridge like this one bridge (its the one at the very bottom) at a local music store for the guitar i'm building. my problom is, that i think i need some bushings to mount it to the body, but i've been serching every where to find them and cant find any that will fit those posts. dose any one know where i cand find them, and (this might seem like a stupid question) do i even need the bushings? thanks in advance for your help
  20. this thread reminded me of an article i read about this guy named ned evett, he plays fretless guitars that have glass fret boards . here is a link to a page wheres you can see some of his gitars, i think they are all (besides the dobro) fernandes guitars that he customized ned evett
  21. thanks for the info every one i thought that was a good idea, i've been planing on making a temlpate out of some thin peices of wood i have
  22. thanks for the replly man. im building a three to a side traditional, almost LP like head stock, i've never been a big fan of the standard flying v headstock, but its not even time for me to drill the holes yet, ijust wanted to have all the info befor i stated
  23. Hi everyone, i am building my first guitar (a flying v) and i have a question that i havent found an answer for by searching the forum. My question, is how do figure out where to put the tuners on the headstock, is there some sort of mesurment i need to make, or is it just a cosmetic issue. thanks in advance for any help
