  1. I just don't like the slanted humbucker routs... looks way too weird for me lol
  2. yep exactly my tought, though i have no idea how the full shred would sound... Anyways, about the DDesigned pickups... I would at least expect them to be much better than any Mighty Mite or stock cheap korean made pickups... Or else SD would not let them use their name.
  3. bah something like 1" should be enough... maybe a bit more for some neck pockets but not all that much (depends on bit sizes too...)
  4. alright thanks... I'm still wondering if I should... Sperzel will be written upside down lol
  5. Hello, my question is this... Is it important to mount the tuners so the peg is higher than the rest of the tuner or not? I have locking tuners and i had not really taken this into account when I designed the headstock... But now it's cut and i've made the holes, and I realised that it looks ugly the tuners the right way... Anyways, thanks!
  6. Anyways, for the template, i think i'll just make a square template with a coping saw... and then lots of sanding to get it straight
  7. i'm only afraid for the 1st pass... i'm unsure how my router will hold off with more than 1/4" (it's the craftsman spinsaw, btw... maybe someone could tell me the max depth they've done?)
  8. nice idea for the clamps... I was trying to think how i'd do something similar myself because i won't be able to find clamps for the body sides... How much did the clamps cost you?
  9. what if i raised the template a bit? maybe put some (straight) scrap wood under (and make it stick so it dosen't move) would work? my template is about 2 cm btw... around 3/4"
  10. BTW the carvins are MUCH more customisable than what ppl would think... You just have to call them... You can get every options that are on their custom guitars.
  11. Seriously, I personally think that putting .10 or .11 strings will do MUCH more for your tone than higher action.....
  12. will it cause me problems if my bit is 1" long? How can i make 1/8" or 1/4" passes with that?
  13. hmm these are good ideas, and in face i never tought of using a jig saw for the job! I don't have my bit yet though... I'll have to see about that
  14. well, i gotta say this is a design good enough for Neal Moser... It really looks nice! Though a little more practice on the inlay could have been good :D (not that I can do better :/)
  15. Ok... I'm trying to make a template for humbuckers with plywood. I tought it would be somewhat easy, but it dosen't seem so... Anyone would have tricks or tips or something? Also, is a 1/2" router bit alright for pickup routing? I didn't plan on using pickup rings, but I think I won't have a choice... Anyways, thanks everyone! Edit: Or should I buy them?? I've seen those on The Bay... Thanks again
  16. If you want to make sure you won't scrap something, you should buy a neck... it would at least (almost) guarantee a guitar that plays good...
  17. what about Dream Theater?? Technical stuff if I ever saw any, and listen to some of their calmer stuff... Check out Petrucci's lyrics... That's emotional. One way or another, i don't really like shredders and i like even less Emo's... I've seen a band at the montreal jazz fest... The guys wheren't that good, but the drummer was mesmerising... Just pure talent. He broke 3 snares in the show Like someone said, though, poeple seem to use emotional stuff to pass up their crappy playing. (Nirvana comes to mind, though some ppl won't agree) Anyways, I awnsered Both
  18. they're duncans made in korea... But still Duncans anyways, it still depends what models they copy... if they're copies of the 59' I don't think it'll do what you want
  19. As soon as my guitar's done, i'll tell you how the Screamin demon sounds... I've heard a lot of complaints about the pickup, but most of those where from kids thinking it to be an uber high output pickup (while it's written on the package that's it's a med output pickup...) It's output is actually comparable to a 59'(paf)... Anyways, good luck with finding the right pickups for you, it's hard BTW, the fullshred in the neck will TOTALLY sound much louder than the screamin demon...
  20. I have been thinking about one thing... How would a mahogany neck/1 piece maple body sound? I would guess a little brighter than a maple topped maple neck guitar?
  21. look for tele kisekae(sp?) on the net...
  22. what about a double cut? It could easily cut it for anything... Just don't do a flat top
  23. and it would sound horrible and NOT AT ALL like an LP Seriously... there's a reason why there are *very* few all maple guitars. Only I know of is the Lynch ESP pro model(s)
  24. well, 1 piece flame maple body has always been on my list of what my dream guitar should have... Though not with a maple neck Anyways, the burst and everything about Southpa's tele looks great! And for Rhoads, as usual, i kinda don't like the dyes he uses... Just not my taste...
