  1. If you shop around on ebay and get lucky, you can sometimes get a set of Kent armstrong PAF's for about 30 dollars. I got some a while ago, and they sound nearly as good as Seymour duncans. As for GFS pickups, i got one of those for my strat (dual rail 'hotrails' alike) and i have to say, it is possibly the worst pickup i've ever had! But hey... all a matter of taste. Theres always the option of buying 2nd hand duncans/dimarzios off ebay?
  2. easy way is to attach one of the wires to one terminal of the multimeter (set to DC resistance) and touch the other wires in turn on the other terminal. Then you should only get a reading for one of the three wires, the other two wont give a reading. You then know that these two wires correspond to one of the coils of the humbucker (and the other two to the other coil). If you look closely at the humbucker where the wire goes into the bottom you might be able to see where each of the coloured conductors goes, and hence work out which pair of wires goto which coil. As for figuring out what wire is the start and end of the coil !! As for the wiring, dunno how you'd do that on a standard strat 5 way!
  3. I've got a V-amp 2 with me at uni, and my flatmate had a pod2. There is a difference between the two, i'd say the distortion sounds are better on the Vamp, and the cleans better on the pod! so it depepnds what you want it for. With regard with the gap between patches on the v-amp, if you turn off the cabinet modelling, or put all the patches you are using to the same cab simulation, the gap isn't noticable unless you are recording with it.
  4. There we go! a solution! Incidentally, i opened up my custom 24 to have a look, on the new prs swtches, the ones with the circuit board attached parallel to the shaft, it appears that the ground wire from both the pickups is hard wired to the ground out from the switch anyway! but hey. There we go!
  5. Seriously wouldn't buy one online dude. Have a go first, really have no idea what the 20 watter will sound like. My friends who use 5150's aint too keen on the ashdowns, so its probably a matter of taste! Just my opinion that they rule
  6. www.custominlay.com They have some nice pearlescent plastics that are similar to MOP which are good to practice on... sumut stupid like 20 dollars for 12"x24" too.. they ship internatinally.
  7. Just try it and why would it only have one coil there anyway?
  8. Yeah, apparently the peacemaker has the same clean channel as the fallen angel (i've got the 60 watter). That goes from a crystal clean to a nice breakup sound. As i remember from the shop the peacemakers gain channel sounds similar to a marshall DSL, same kinda gain range. not sure how the 20 watt one would sound, as it has a 10" speaker (larger ones have vintage 30's). but i spose if you had a good cab it'd sound just as good.
  9. yeah i know. sorry wrong end of the stick. The sprays aren't the best thing since sliced bread, but a hell of a lot cheaper than an air compressor, spray gun, the paint and being able to use the damned things! i suppose the easy way to do it is to get some car/bike spray shop to do it for you? they could probably get the paint cheaper too.
  10. a company called Holts makes duplicolor paints in the UK. They aren't the same paints, just they own the tradename in britain.
  11. My friend, you are a legend. you have no idea how long i've been looking for one of these. And i wanted chrome anyway! Thanks. But before i go and buy one, can anyone else confirm this as i cant seem to find a wiring diagram!!
  12. Sorry, just saw this thread. You can actually get colour flip or chameleon paint in cans. Its called duplicolor mirage http://www.autobarn.net/dupmirpainth.html Only problem is its only sold in the US, not here in the UK as some other shitty company has trademarked the duplicolor name. DOH Hope this helps.
  13. Have to admit i hadn't thought of that, but hey. Here's the fix. URL for image is Images if it doesn't work. sorry about that! did it before i went to sleep in a bit of a zombie mode.
  14. They're not bad mate. By no means a boogie, but they're damned cheap and good for the money. Good range of sounds on them. If you're after high gain the fallen angel is good too. Go for the 60 watt combo, thats probably the best of the standard (non-handwired) range!.
  15. here you go part of the diagram is borrowed off seymour duncan. Its probably easier to atually buy a PRS rotary switch as they are easier to wire up, or even a stew mac Megaswitch (model P) which is the same as the rotary but in strat form. But you get the idea of how to do it from this diagram hopefuly. reply with any questions! Ta
  16. all you need is a single pole double throw (SPDT) switch, two position, on-on. connect the middle tag to the hot output on the output jack, the left to the hot output of the volume control, and the right tag directly to the hot output of the bridge pickup (i know this will already be attached to the toggle switch). then you can switch between the two. This is also called the direct cut switch or something like that by yamaha on their RGX guitars. Hope this helps. (i can do a diagram if you need it)
  17. You'd probably have trouble finding one in britain to be honest, and if u could it'll probably be custom made. WD music UK do some necks (here) that are paddle headstock strat ones, but again have dot inlays. If you're bothered about the dot inlays you could have a go at doing the block les paul style ones yourself? Stewmac do some precut lespaul inlay sets that are pretty good?
  18. Already looked there, but they only have them in mini toggle format, and i need one in the same size as the normal les paul toggle. Anyone have any other ideas?
  19. Does anyone know where you can get a les paul toggle switch (with the same size coloured caps!) that have a DPDT (On-Off-On) and SPDT (on-off-on) configuration? thanks
  20. Just out of interest, I'm looking for a couple of switches the same size as the dimarzio EP-1111, but with a DPDT (On-Off-On) and a SPDT (On-Off-On), custom wiring! I can get them in miniture size, but i want them in normal les paul toggle size. If anyone knows anywhere i can get these!!
