another thing i have found using shellac (ive only used it a couple of times), is that it is good to strain it before you use it, just so you get any undisolved flakes out of the mixture. (i learnt the hard way and had to sand the shelf unit i made back to bare timber). i just stole a pair of my wife's stockings, cut them up and decanted it from one container to another. she wasn't amused!!

i used an alesis dm5 and roland pads when i used to play. never had a problem with either, and would recommend both products. the only reason i sold them was to buy a motorbike, otherwise i would still have them.

yo mazz where in australia are you?? if you are in adelaide, i'll give you a job!! i own a fencing company, and i need someone to dig holes, mix concrete, lift heavy stuff etc. seems every young guy i get can't take the hard work (10 hour days in 30-40 degree heat during summer) they stay for a few weeks and then leave. my poor 34 year old body is slowly breaking down!! i pay good wages, and normally end up buying lunch every day too!! cheers darren

dude why not use a push/pull pot? that way if you wanted to add an extrta pot, you could have both volume controls on the one pot and a separate tone pot. cheers darren

yo, if you're gonna experiment with mdf, PLEASE wear a dust mask. the glue in the stuff is carcinogenic (sp?) ie: causes cancer.

dude (i use this word a lot!) i don't have a problem with people recommending books or products etc that will help others. i do have a problem if the book/product is written/produced by the person recommending it, and they do not state this. i understand (from your posts) that you have no connection with this book or the profits made from it, so i don't seee it as an issue. i merely made the point that to me it didn't seem like kyle was commenting on the painting "how to", but on the other "how to's" that he mentioned in his post. (again, did not see the unedited version)

What an assinine comparison. The biggest problem with these types of forums is that the there are schmucks like you, offering your "free" advice at the expensive of other people ruining their instruments. Do you REALLY want to tell me that I would be "better NOT to follow" the "how to's" explained in the book I purchased? Would you also then like to explain just how I was able to achieve the factory finish you saw in my pics? Or maybe the several testimonials shown on this authors webpage? (www.paintyourownguitar.com) Me thinks the only "how to's" people are better off NOT following are your own. Appears to be spoken from someone with GREAT knowledge on the subject. What the hell is "Phosphide Gas" anyway? g'day if you are going to veneer the headstock, do you need to route a nut slot, or can you leave a gap between the fingerboard and the veneer for the nut to sit in?
