  1. Thanks for the ideas PSW. I built this little amp awhile back after seeing it on here and it sounds incredible for what it is, i run it through a 12inch celestion vintage 30 and get some really nice blues crunch out of it. I just saw that it used the same chip as your sustainer circuit and was wondering if i could use it as is to drive a, driver. I will most likely just build a sustainer circuit if i attempt it. Its on the list of things to do, just got to finish all the others first
  2. Yep thats a cove bit. As usmc has stated, pop it in the drill press and the bearing should fit in the control hole to guide, unless its a massive bearing and just route down to desired depth. Go slow as your drill press doesn't spin at the same speed as a router. Nice build BTW Mark.
  3. Hey PSW, could one use one of these for the amp and build a driver? I have built this already and if it could be used that would be cool.
  4. I also often wipe the excess off in a wet rage
  5. Good example B.Aaron. Shred, I think you have totally over complicated the situation in your head. Forget the maths point of view and look at the neck joint design. Bolt-on,set and through necks are all different lengths. Suss out what neck joint you want and then work your design. Check out factory guitars to get an idea of the different designs. For instance a Les Paul has a set neck with a tenon that has shoulders, the tenon can technically be made to sit as far back as the bridge if one wants, whereas a PRS neck sits in under the Neck H/B and the shape of the heel is the same as the neck pocket. Check out some build threads on this website to get an idea of neck joint construction.
  6. Thanks Kill. What about gun cleaning? Do you take it all to bits? I usually will remove the tip,the can and all the parts where the fluid runs through but i haven't taken the needle out etc.
  7. Gonna start spraying the clear on my current build in the next couple of days. Has anyone ever used this 2k poly before? Got put onto it by a good automotive paint supplier and they said it was real easy to spray, flows nice and a fantastic product. Somehow im not sure it will be so simple. If anyone has used it and got any tips that would be great. Even tips for any 2k is welcome. I have been trawling through the finishing section of the forum for a week now and been reading anything to do with 2-part polys, but its always good to get some up to date tips! Cheers for looking Chad
  8. Sounds like you need to setup in the living room!
  9. Very very cool mate! I wasn't sure on this one while i was watching but the finish build looks great. The pickup covers are old speaker covers yeah? I dont think they would look good on any build, they just really suit your guitars.
  10. Great idea, but to me a guitar has to look desireable aswell as play nice, that looks sh**te! (Disclaimer: above statement is just my opinion)
  11. Looks great Wes, I reckon relic the hardware to match the wide range bucker, would set this one off just nicely i reckon.
  12. Bling all the way! Owwwwwwwwwwww! Nice work John, someone had already stated best work to date, im in agreement! Really like that you used a strat type pickup layout, really suits this axe.The best part is you can do your makeup between songs.
  13. more pics in the build thread : http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=43011 * Props to Chops1983 for a nudge in the GOTM direction. Thanks Chad! * Don't thank me, i reckon it deserves to be there and your foresight when you saw this thing is what has earnt this build its fans. You could be pleasently surprised at the end of the month.
  14. Hey Aimee, It was nice to have a knowledgeable female around these parts, hope everything works out for you. Take care, Chad.
  15. Someone should pin this in the hilarious section! Do we have one or what? I reckon we need one, so everytime theres an argument on here we just send both parties to the "funnies" section. This lightened my day and i just got up!
  16. That was my thoughts exactly. We know what maple and mahoghany sound like, i reckon do the ash.
  17. Im here because i love using my hands and building things. Building guitars lets me use my finer skills that i don't get to use everyday as a carpenter. So, if i get commisioned for a build it would be to cover parts and timber as everyone has already stated. Ive been asked by a few friends to build for them but they are always down the pub instead of saving cash for a guitar. Lately been commissioned to build custom stompboxes for a couple local musicians, mainly channel switching and A/B/Y pedals etc. I make the housings out of timber and they're alot of fun. The guy liked it so much he payed me twice as much as what i asked,I just wanted to cover costs but he was rapt. Perry, its awesome to see someone living their dream, You were nice enough to have helped me out with advice and parts before, so congrats mate.
  18. Looks great Hoogle! i really like that black highlight strip around the guitar, it goes great with the p/up rings and defines the shape, nice little touch. Im a big fan of your builds. Chad.
  19. Ok, well i have hit my first little speed bump. Ive popped the trem in the guitar, being held in with the springs on the back and ive strung up both the E string's to line things up. Haven't drilled the post holes yet as i was checking everything is lining up. All sweet for the lineup, but the action is at 1.75mm with the trem at its lowest setting, so basically i have no more adjustment to lower the action. I put a straight edge down the neck and its straight and the truss rod is nipped up. The neck is clamped and yet to be glued so i have 2 options, well 3 that come to mind. Option 1 being to give the heel some neck angle. Option 2 Sink the trem. Option 3 Do both? If theres anything ive missed could someone chime in as Im not sure which way to go. I don't think it would matter if there was some neck angle, which would be easiest, but if anyone has any input or advice that would be much appreciated. I wanna get the neck glued in tomorrow as ive got the day off work. Thanks, Chad.
  20. Thanks for the reply Mike. I tell ya what im digging, That explorer of yours! Swweeeeeeeettttt!
  21. Thats killer Mike!!! You have done an awesome job on the finish to match the carving. Is this in the GOTM? Chad.
  22. Tracked down that parcel. Here are a couple of mockups. The p/up rings are gold but look a bit washed out due to the light. Someone mentioned gold with the eygptian theme which i though was a good idea, gold frets would have really made it i reckon. I think once the p/ups go in it will bring this to life, looks abit strange without them. They will be just stock standard black h/b's. BTW the switch will have either gold screws or black, just need to source them. What do ya's think?
  23. Haha true,....well thinner so to speak I would have put up a mockup shot but it seems my parcel has vanished! DHL handed it over to Australia Post and neither of them know where it is :D Ill try get down to the bottom of it today.
  24. Hey, had abit more time to work on this build recently. Just waiting on parts to arrive hopefully tomorrow and i can double check everything is lined up and finally finish this sucker off. Its starting to do my head in cause i havent had the money to buy parts to finish the rest of the steps. Being my first trem, i just really want to double check myself with all my measurements and such. I also managed to skim 4.5mm of thickness off the back, so now its a finish thickness of 54.5mm. Doesn't look nowhere near as solid from the side and ive got the total weight at this stage under 3kg's. 2.956kg roughly. So im hoping for a finish weight under 4kg's, which is a around 8.5 pounds. So today i got the switch slot routed, finally nailed down the controls to 2V,1T, 3way lever and 2 push/pulls for coil split and series/parallel option. Also routed for the control cavity cover and made a cover out of some black acrylic plastic. Started making a template for the trem cover route so ill finish that tomorrow. Getting closer to that home stretch now! Front shot Back shot, i know a few people mentioned a body inlay, well i made this "eye of horus" for the body before i left on my trip, both myself and my wife didnt really like it on the front so instead of waste it, i thought it would be a nice touch on the back of the headstock. Neck finished shaped, its 21.5mm at the first fret and tapers to 24.5mm at the heel. Im really happy with the feel of this neck, i had a comment on my last guitar that the neck felt bulky, i actually prefer a fat neck and once your used to it they're actually really comfortable, but i wanted to make it a better all rounder so when someone picks it up for a play they like the feel from the get go. Switch mounting Ill try get a couple of mockup shots tomorrow if the parts come.
  25. Or some korean guy got to excited in the middle when he was radiusing!
