  1. wow i should of check back on this a while ago. Thanks for the info prostheta. Ill get this thing wired up Thanks everyone for the input.
  2. I just saw this stuff online, i was going to give it a try. Before I do, could you let me know how you got to buffing this stuff? Thanks Pics would be awesome too
  3. I've searched all over, including forums that aren't this one.. still cant find a direct answer. It always ends up in a huge debate about which finishes are better/ sound better. My question is, I just sealed a new build of mine with deft (all I had laying around) I didn't think first about sealing with it. On this build I had planned on using a 2 part acrylic urethane finish. Now that it has been applied already, is it possible to spray acrylic urethane over this Deft "nitro"? I've read so many yes' and no's that I don't trust anyone anymore but you guys. I don't want a bad reaction or something. Thanks again everyone. If you really want to, clearing up if acrylic urethane dampens guitar tone would be nice too.
  4. Jebus that looks amazing. What clear coat did you use? It's stunning and crystal clear!
  5. this build is amazing! may i ask how you polished the fretboard? I must of missed reading about it. I cant wait to see this all dyed and finished
  6. oops! sorry guys I forgot to show you the finished product. I got lost in a bunch of shows :-P This thing plays nice though
  7. I think it was more... "The horns were a F#$@$@# pain in the ASS" haha. The next build will be immaculate :-P thanks for the advise though
  8. I have them ill have to post them i didnt want to flood with pics ;-P
  9. for sure haha great analogy Ill throw in a AAA battery or something haha
  10. So I sill Still need a small battery source? I thought so... damn.
  11. awesome would I need a separate battery source? Or is there some LEDs that run of that little bit of power? oh and I'm going to look for a wiring diagram on google or something. If you can draw one up really fast and make the process of searching faster I would really appreciate it
  12. Hey guys after searching for hours on this site I didnt find anything..... Anyway I had a simple question Can you run any LED's off the power of the input? Like say I want a LED to come on when you plug in the guitar. A Very small LED would be all I need. I just need a small Red LED to shine and show off the control cavity through this clear cover Thanks a ton guys! Im off to search google. Ill post here if I find anything so others can learn too.
  13. Taped off the binding and front sprayed the back semi gloss black (dont worry I sprayed it out back on the deck in a booth I made then brought it in to dry) dried took off the tape.I always loved natural binding And now its hanging waiting to dry then I will seal It allll together
  14. Thanks! just about to post some more updates. Once I got this body fully sealed im going to glue the neck to the body finally. Then I have to wait to cut the knob holes, 5way switch hole, re-stain those areas THEN finish haha. So excited! Might get this done before the crap winter weather
  15. scraped back binding (seen from the top, i sanded it more into the top after this pic. Its more noticable now) Heres how it hung for a couple days so the moisture could be drawn out of the top again So while I waited I sanded the fretboard back to 1500 grit. (crowning the files after the file comes in the mail) Days later, after sitting in a heated area and letting the moisture leave the top, I sealed it all in (for some reason now that first golden washcoat can be seen through in the light. I LOVE IT haha) So this is where I am now. I need to get a 1 1/4" Cove bit. I forgot to carve the dips for the volume/Tone knobs. I also need to route the 5 way blade switch with my dremel) Im not worried about the stain or anything so I shouldnt be a problem. Im going to tape off each part im cutting and going to restain the spots. so now Its sitting here until my cove bit and 5 way switch and files and such come in the mail. (test fit the pickups to see what it looks like.. Im going to get black chrome pickup rings for this guitar) Oh yeah headstock stained a slight red Thanks for looking! Updates as soon as my parts come in.
  16. sanded to tape binding lacquered (in case of getting through the tape) and stained first coat Sanded back and added black in the light, looks pretty rad! sanded back and added red. (I dont know why i forgot to take the sanded back photos.. damnit.) added a black stain burst in light. Sanded back everything and restained everything just for added depth and got this in light (in person you could definately tell the difference)
  17. before carve after these horns were a F@#$@42 Pain hahaha rough carve done back control cavity cover routed. (template sucked... lesson learned. Use good template material and take more time!) Got to wood fill around the sides so it sits perfect Taped off 3/16th binding (notice spots that sit above tape, These were sanded down flush to the tape for an even binding)
  18. started carving the back finshed the neck (shaped, heel carved, sealed) carving the front. (yes what you see later was all done with a straight chisel.. haha hand sanded (wanted most of the hard work done literally by hand) progress sealing finish test
  19. Damn that looks nice haha So how would I do this if I had lacquer on the fretboard? Would it be the same?
  20. Oh I must of not explained well. I use lemon oil that I bought at the guitar shop. Question is, will i still need to oil the fret board if I put some finish over it? Or will I even be able to with the finish? Should I not worry cause I see people finish over fret board all the time. As dpm said. With ebony it shouldn't matter if I finish over the fret board or "suffocate" the wood with finish right? Ebony should have enough oil of its own to stay good over the years right?
  21. So just a quick question. I have an ebony fret board that I want to very lightly add some gloss too. I'm talking just enough to get it to shine but not so much as to bunch up against the fret or suffocate the wood. (Frets are already installed.) I thought about doing a full small coat of gloss but I still want to be able to keep the fret board oiled and all that so it doesn't get dry. Question is, if you put some clear finish on a fret board.. How do you keep it oiled? If that's even possible? Does it NEED to be oiled and all that?
  22. Also Shaped a Bone blank Nut I also routed the pickup routes (my MDF Template had some nicks and they came out like crap.... Next time I'm going to remake them with acrylic again) Im not worried though... The pickup Rings will cover them, I'll take more time on this step next time. I was also checking the bridge placement in this photo. So I installed the bridge in and rechecked everything. Here was checking the Nut, It sits perfectly. Here it is all aligned, strings running down the fretboard just right And here it is so far I also beveled the belly cut and things here and there on the back. So I'll get some HD close up pictures of all the detail tomorrow in the light.
  23. Ok so we have a lot more work done Routed the body to shape Love the figure and how well the join between the mahogany and maple went. Also routed the neck pocket. Rough cut the headstock Shaped the heel and test fitted the neck joint Fits PERFECT haha Pretty excited on how well its going as this is my 3rd build.
  24. agreed even before i saw your post asking what color i thought about it having black hardware
