  1. TYVM. I'll give it a go and put it in my drill press.
  2. If you dont know the thread size then if you have a kent armstrong pickup laying about can you measure the height screw hole diameter please.
  3. I'm planning to get some Kent Armstrong HRO-1A/WPUJB pickups wihtout any mounting gear and I was wondering if anyone knows the mounting screw thread size or if Kent Armstrong has a standard screw thread size? Thanks in advance.
  4. I am impressed. I would never think putting lots of strips of wood together would look that good. Good luck with building that and make sure to put it on guitar of the month (GOTM)
  5. Hi everyone I'm Mitch and I'm new to this forum. I'm a little bit of a guitar making noob (I'm on my second guitar now). I completely forgot about introducing myself before I started posting so sorry about that. TTFN
  6. Can I make one of those fret press bits that Stewart MacDonald sell? I know the proper brass ones are cheap but because I live in the uk it will take ages for it to come through the post and the postage will be quite expensive if that's all I'm ordering (I just got a stewmac order through but I forgot to put the thing in). Is it possible to make one out of a very solid wood like rosewood? or out of plastic? Thanks in advance.
  7. I got into it when I was on youtube and I saw someone saying they where playing a homemade guitar so then I looked for some videos on people making their own guitars and it inspired to make one myself. Then after I just started (because I was a bit noobish and unprepary then) My friend let me borrow (he just had them for some reason) Melvyn Hiscock's book and Martin Koch's books. After I finished I thought my guitar was the best thing I ever made and I don't plan to stop now..
  8. Does the fretboard have to be glued to the neck when you fret a guitar? It's lucky I thought of it now because i'm not far off fretting the fretboard and I was planning to fret it before i glued it on the neck. I heard that when you fret a guitar it bends the neck back and maybe that would bend the fretboard enough to snap it. The fingerboard it rosewood and both the wire and the board where from Stewart MacDonald so the wire is the right size for the slot. Help appreciated.
  9. Erm.. I think laquer haze is the least of your problems. You seem to have built your guitar upside down. Sorry to break it to you.
  10. I Don't get all the bits before I start. I buy as i go along.
  11. Depends what type of neck you want. Some necks are glued in and some are bolted on (with screws). A glued in neck it a little harder to do and it is very difficult to take the neck off without damaging the guitar but gives better sustain (the strings vibrate longer) this is used on the les paul. And bolt on necks are an easier faster way to make a neck joint but the sustain isn't as good, This is used on the strat.
  12. If it's english sycamore yes because it's almost the same as maple. This is why there is all this confusion between maple and sycamore because they are pretty much the same thing. Sycamore is used as a maple alternitive often and i'm using it for the center laminate for my current build. So yes, you should be fine
  13. That is an awsome shape i have to admit and hope it goes well for you when you do make it. BTW what software did you use to draw that?
  14. You could do that easily. But personally i would go for 1 vol 2 tone instead. But to go one better (assuming you have a pickup selector switch as well) then I would advise a blend pot instead of a pickup selector switch, 1 master volume and 2 tones(this is assuming you have a 2 pickup guitar) as that would give you more flexibility. The way a blend pot works is it basicly lets you choose how much of each pickup you have (instead of bridge, neck or both)
  15. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/ That has loads of wiring pictures on. If there isn't anything on there that helps just message me: The amount and type of pickups, the controls on the front of the guitar and what you want the controls to do and i'll write you a circuit diagram(if you know how to read them) or a wiring picture.
  16. You may have burned something out with the soldering iron. Use a multimeter and go round the electronics testing for resistance between each side of the pots and things and avoid touching the soldering iron on any of the electronics for more that 5 seconds(especially near pots and capacitors). If everything is fine check to see if any live wires are touching earth/ground wires. It's also possible that the lead isnt working so try plugging another guitar in and seeing if it works. Try turning/changing all the knobs and switches to see if you get anything at all and make sure you have the jack wired the right way round. Hope this helped.
