  1. Actually some small transformers are used as Henry chokes. Such as what Derek ( BigDGuitars ) uses for his varitone switches. Mike
  2. Other than being squared off at the top it looks a lot like the one I use. I don't see a problem with infringement for you with anyone? I think it is a classic style IMO ! Mike
  3. I normaly let the vet take care of that. ROTFLMAO!!! I agree let the Vet do it. OH Man, I feel for your PUPs they may not sound like you intended though, they will most likely have some treble overtones Seriously though, you should clean the gun between coats. I usually will remove my cup and cover it. then use a small can with some lacquer thinner in it and spray the thinner from the can to clear the gun. wipe down the pickup tube and the rim. Then I'm ready for the next coats. Only when I'm done for the day do I throughly clean the gun. Just my .02cents. MK
  4. TRy some electronic spray cleaner if that does'nt work then maybe a replacement pot. Link mk
  5. First off POLY and Lacquer DON'T mix, period. If you want to use amber then either mix trans tint dye or some other Non Poly stain/dye with shellac or lacquer. then work your way to your next color. remember start with the light color and work to dark. A clear coat between will help, but is not necessary. it depends on the depth you are trying to achieve between the colors and toners. It's a balance ACT as best Practice on scrap first, multiple times to get your set down. otherwise plan on a lot of sanding back to wood. Just my .02cents in a small nutshell!! MK
  6. What width Fret do you want? I have a friend that does machine work at home (he's retired) may be able to get him to do it. I'm assuming that the press inserts are standard for a stewmac size other than the radius? Mike
  7. Cocobolo is very iffy for most people. If you develop an allergic reaction it seems to compound itself everytime you have contact. At least thats my case and others I have talked with. I have a bunch of it and it's in a corner and I don't touch it without gloves and respirator. I would suggest at the least a dust mask since you are showing sings of reactions to some rosewoods. At best, go by your local auto paint store and pick up a GOOD respirator. It's much cheaper (cost wise) than say Woodcraft or Rockler. Also use gloves to handle the wood in question. Otherwise don't use it or take a chance. be safe instead of sorry. It's better to be seen than viewed if you get my drift. I'm working on trading off all my Cocobolo for something I can work with. Health and safety should be first and foremost to all. Just my .02cents worth Mike
  8. Very nice Daniel. Two days, You must get out more often Mike
  9. Thanks Dean, Having many health issues myself makes this even more a challenge and a conviction. Thanks JM, I just get tired of the ego's. I know I have been guilty of it as well before, offering BS answers instead of actually helping. I try and watch that I don't do that anymore, for it serves no one. MK
  10. Chris Pm me with the addy and let me know what you need I'm sure you can get something for that degree, Consider it a graduation present? BTW thank Todd for his support on the OLF I just lost my cool on it my thread there. MK
  11. No Dudz it's ambrosia maple and I have 100's of board feet of it. It was very cost effective for me. So In my shop it's scrap wood. Much less cost than pine at the Home Depot. I have plans for this wood beyond the staircase I'M building out of it. I will be making guitars for dying children in hopes of bringing just one good day into there short lives. MK
  12. I agree on the splints and will be adding them this week. Thanks for the reminder Chris and Daniel. Chris,Good luck on the Reso build, watch your neck angle and be very tight on the cone placement for bridge alignment. Just a friendly suggestion from someone that's made that mistake. Daniel , I would like to know more about your method of neck attachment as it did catch my eye as something I would consider? MK
  13. Sounds good. You have my # so just let me know when you are on the way. MK
  14. Hi Chris, Well, I'm not sure it will need side splints, but most likely will get some? As far as the Reso Hardware, a friend of mine bought it all from me. He's on his fifth Reso build. So I didn't lose any $ on that I seem to have opened a can of worms though on the OLF with the flat top question though, OOPS!! BTW the B&W Ebony you scored is really nice, Mine is more brownish in the sap wood. Take care, Mike
  15. Well, all, Any one who kept up with the reso build, knows the disaster I created. So here I am starting again with a new Acoustic build, not a RESO though. This will be a Flat top 000 slimline. The sides are 3 3/4" tall. Ambrosia maple sides and back with a Redwood top. The neck will be curly maple (most likely). This is an effort to learn the build not really to have a great guitar, just using scrap wood for this one. Here's a pic of this weekends start!! I'll update as it moves along MK
  16. Weston, Bring some beer and come on!!! I'll bend you a set of sides Won't take long, Bent a set of ambrosia maple sides today in about 2 1/2 hours . I know some will say I need to let cook and cool longer but they were well cooked and one was OVERdone in that time now I have some scorching in one ( damn me and my scotch at 5 pm) and a lot of sanding to get them right MK
  17. and whats the piece just poking out behind it??? I think you knew that picture would make us curious i think the resoclock is a great idea Wez and Andro, The large piece is quilted, curly, birdseye maple 4/4in x 14-1/2in x 70in, AND the one behind is a billet of quilted mahogany 10/4 x 6-1/2in x 50 in. The maple is a very special piece as I have never found one quite like it. It was over 12 ft long It is being used on a fireplace surround I am building. I am going to try and keep enough for a set of sides and back for a 000 build. I have a great sitka spruce 4a top with bearclaw to use with it. As far as the clock that is the top of my reso build but the clock is not attached. My nephew keeps wanting me to add a fake neck and add the clock and make it a bar clock for his place Mike
  18. That's the scrap of the RESO I started back in November. MK
  19. Hi All, This is what I got done this weekend. A new 3 piece redwood top glued up for a new acoustic build, also a new side bender made. Also received my heat blanket today from Blues CreekGuitars. VERY COOL it really helps the light box. See my tests pieces Spring back from just the lights is much greater. The new bender with the new heat blanket as well and the new top ( wood compliments of JON) and also got some more fill coats on the darkside guitar. almost ready to level sand and then put the finish coats on. Thanks for looking Mike
  20. I wish I had known you needed fret wire, I could've added some in the box with the top MK
  21. HADDY GRUMBLES JON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll explain that sometime over lunch. Here's hoping you had a great day! Mike
  22. You are welcome Luke, Make me proud and do something great with it if nothing else, learn from this Mike
  23. Luke there is some warping (minor) in this set. I have edge planed it for gluing based on the picture. The warping will not be a problem when clamped to a body. Just an FYI for you. So please don't be concerned about it. It's normal to expect some movement in the wood after milling, due to stress in the wood. Mike
  24. You're welcome, I'll try and get it shipped by Tuesday, and I hope it works for you Mike edited to add: Has been shipped MK
