OK. Got some snaps of the back. Absolute pain trying to take piks of this as it reflected everything in the workshop. Was even worse outside, Piks kept coming out with the finish looking like chrome. These arent the best quality, but its the best I can do with my crappy camera for now. Black poly finish to body & neck. I let the finish sink into the grain so there is a little texture on the back to compliment the rippled front. Then polished the living hell out of the whole lot. Probobly overdone the buffing a bit as it is overpowering the light graining from the ash underneath. Lesson learned, next time ill be polishing for shorter time periods between checks. But the customer digs it, so im happy.

Realy nice sound. Lots of meat in it, Kinda like a Les paul with a stronger mid range. but not sloppy or muddy on the low end. The highs are very strong aswell, But not shrill or overly piercing. Thers a huge wide mid range to it, so lead/solo stuff works excellent. Out sustains my Les paul aswell.

All at the same time man. its easy. I glued on a fret board whilst eatin a steak dinner, asleep, havin a bulmers, lappin gits at the track on my 748R. All at the same time I was watchin a spongebob marathon on nickelodeon.

Loose the maple body I say. Or at least core it out & put a top on it. Big chambers might help with the ultra bright tone thing. Is it hard maple ? or soft. There are different types & not all are as sharp sounding. But id go wint the mahogany neck, rosewood board & a bone nut if possible. Are you using a trem ? floyds & other knife edge pivoted trems have a tendancy to brighten a sound, So if you are planing a trem then definitly look into a different body material. Give us the full spec you are proposing & you will get better answers, better direction. What kind of sound do you want aswell ?

F Holes freak me out a little. I can never decide if I should cut them before or after I carve the top. Then once they are done I always want to bind them, but once they are bound i hate it & rip it all back out I used a dremil with a tiny slot cuttin bit on the ones you sent me. Worked a treat.

OK. Finished this one up this morning. Plays realy well, although I may raise the action a little as it is a bit too easy on the fingers. Cant realy feel the strings on the treble side even tho they are 10s. Nice sound from it aswell. good clean & driven tone, The high vaulting of the bridge makes for some cool resonance when the gain is way up. Ill get some piks of the back & headstock up tomorrow.

lookin good dave. This this is gonna be grain-tastic when its finished. The sipo looks freaky cool. & while your on the subject of templates. That vine template I got from you worked realy well. A Little bit of fine tuning on the board after the mini router/template part & that was it. All prety much done in less than an hour. Just gotta finish sand the board now.

I hate dot cockups. easy to do if your heads not fully in the game. At least its not a total disaster. the bord can be salvaged for a strat build or soething. Just cant be used on this guitar.

This is prety much what I have on this guitar. Not a lot of dimensions but enough to be able to build from if you know what you are doing. The original concept calls for the back face to remain a constant width the whole way along the neck. But as my thumb tends to wander off centre the further up the neck I go, I altered this one to better suite my hands. I stuck to the usual dimensions for an AEolian neck on this build as I wanted to get a good idea of the difference between the traditional profiles & this one. Most of my necks are 22.5 - 25.5mm thick, fairly chunky compared to most manufacturers, but still very playable. So I built this one to my usual specs except for the back profile. There is a definit difference in how Thick the neck feels with the Trapazoid profile. It feels much smaller & is less intrusive to finger reach along the frets than even my JEM7vwh. I was surprised at how easily it played & how quickly it melted into the background. After only a few mins playing I had no idea there was anything unusual happening behind the fretboard. Im gona have to try this on a Les paul

Finish is perfect now. spot on man. get the PCB etching compound, chloric acid, bleach, scotch brite, blow torch & sea salt in vinigar out. Time to mangle the hardware to shite !!!! Whats the neck gona be like ? Rose wood or maple board ?

Agreed for i used to play classical guitar a lot and this looks really comfortable to me. I might throw something up when I have taken full detail dimensions of the neck for my own records. I would recomend reading all the info on the design concept before you try build one as there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.

Iv done it a few times in the past. The ash looks realy good on a carved top. Sounds realy good too. But if you are using swamp ash then id recomend a maple neck to keep the bite in your sound. Swamp can be a bit mellow with the mahogany. If it is northern hard ash then a mahogany neck will be fine. What kind of sound are you looking for ?

You gonna beat up the other chromed parts ? go for the whole beat up look ? I think you should go with the black pick guard

Yes, it is literally a trapazoid. the cross section would be a 4 sided polygon. The back of the neck consists of 3 faces. All of them completly flat, with just a tiny round over on the edges. Apart from the radius on the fret board there are no curved surfaces.

No not realy. i approached it as a completly flat set up. the "binding" on the neck was done just like ordinary body binding would be. Just 4mm thick is all. once the neck was bound i levelled it to the body & attached the board on top. The blues engines are actually very nice. I like them more than the evos I was originally putting in this guitar. Lots of realy nice tone, good sustain & overdrive realy well. I have another one of these guitars underway, that one is all one piece apart from the board & rear cover, Now THAT one is posing me problems. Ill put up piks in a while. Once it is well under way.

Nice piece of maple there. Wish I could get that over here. Typically $50 worth of timber would cost $200 to ship, total pain in the nuts man.

Do it man. Get a beater strat & make a new neck for it. Or get Rick to make a neck for it. I couldent believe how well it played. It should feel completly wrong but it doesent. absolute fookin flyer, realy fast, very stable platform for all sorts of messin about. I say give it a go !!

Dunno. big roundovers make guitars look fat. Might be a bit much with a double neck. Mabe a very very shallow carve down to a small roundover ? Just an opinion, But you know what they say about those

Some piks of the neck. You can see the Trapazoid profile here fairly well. The steamed walnut contrasts well with the sapele here. Makes nice feature I think. The fact that the body & neck are all one piece shows up well here. I kept the heel as I wanted to retain some of the feel of a traditional bolt on. I figured the freaky neck would be enough to get used to. But I have to say it took all of about 2 minutes to completly forget it was not a rounded neck. 4 hours later (yes thats right, 4 hours ) My hand still didnt feel fatigued. As a concept, this trapazoid thing realy seems to work. All Credit on the Trapazoid shaped neck concept has to go to Rick Toone, If you havent looked into his stuff then you are missing out.

Id go for the 40mm thick option (your second pik) Its reasonably close to standard. It will weigh a lot less that the 50 jobbie on a double neck. I learned my lesson on the first double i did. Im hollowing out my current double neck build. Slapped it all together as a mockup (no glue) & it was H-E-A-V-Y This thing is starting to look realy cool.
