  1. I am getting me a moisture reader, tomorrow!! about the oven you guys are talking ,I presume is a special one, or just my kitchen oven would work? sorry for my ignorance.
  2. Gentlemen,I bought some construction grade spruce the other day and intend to use it for a top in an archtop project I just started, inspired by the Benedetto Pine guitar ,anyways ,I also read that moisture content should be low to avoid warping or shrinking ,i dont know, thing is I dont know how to measure the moisture, i would like some advice on that, also would it be too bad really using this piece? what could be the worse?.
  3. very sorry to know this,my deepest condolences to his wife and family, he ll surely be missed here,RIP Steve.
  4. yeah,I ordered the set of three blades ,1/4, 1/2,and 3/8 ,I hope they last longcause they are expensive ,and what really ticks me off is that you cant get them anywhere but online, anyways ,thanks for your responses.
  5. Hello gentlemen, i have a problem with a bandsaw blade, I just bought a bandsaw yesterday and taking a curve on a cut i twisted the blade ,the problem is 99 3/4 is a very unusual lenght and none of the big hardware stores carry it,anyways,i was trying to correct the twist with no luck, did any of you try this before ,is it doable? I already ordered new ones but in the meantime i have none but the twisted one and i really need to use the bandsaw, any help ? thanks a lot for your time.
  6. In my experience cutting shapes like squares or perfect circles has been a nightmare, have you cut any shell before? it takes some practice to be accurate and shapes like this really stand out when they are not perfect,i tried maple inlays ,very inexpensive when i used my scrap, maybe u can find cheaper shell online too, keep looking, my 2 cents.
  7. yeah, the pocket is not that tight, is good but not that tight that i can hold the guitar by the neck, well ,maybe i should just bolt it then ,i really appreciate your feedback, thank s a lot.
  8. Gentlemen,I have this guitar that I started as a bolt on project ,i want to do it a set neck now, only because it is for me a lot easier to just glue the neck in and forget about it,some people claim that you get a better sounding instrument too, i dont know but anyways ,my concern is that I want it to be a strong joint and dont know if that is possible with this neck pocket, has anyone done this before? what was your experience? I d really love some help with this, thank you very much. ttp://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olyen/DSC030411.jpg ttp://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olyen/DSC030421.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olyen/DSC030401.jpg
  9. what is MYOEG? i d like to know about that kind of neck too.
  10. i love the heel but idont think i can say the same about the floyd there i dont think the two worlds go well together but then again i guess i should be more open to changes
  11. I think you did a great job on the carve. Looks really natural. What all did you use to carve it with? ←
  12. here s a green one ,my friend said he wanted a green one so i refinished this that was a sunburst once. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olye...SGUITARS021.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olye...SGUITARS028.jpg
  13. yeah a like the maple binding too, well,i messed it up, i put a little amber on top of what i had and it was horrible,i hated it ,so then i thought i d darken it a little bit so i put some red and brown tinted nitro and ended up with this ,pretty standard color better than before but not quite what i was going for, anyways ,tips for next time are welcome,i know for sure that i ll get it closer to what i want next time just with dyes and then not play too much with the clear ,i think for me it works better that way,or just keep trying i guess experience will give me nicer results, regards .thanks for the help and sorry if i dissapointed some of yous. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olye...SGUITARS016.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olye...SGUITARS015.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olye...SGUITARS017.jpg
  14. You are right Signguy, thats exactly how it is,although i dont like candy, iam more of the hot stuff, hey what do you think of that carve does it look ok? its my fourth or fifth,i think i am getting the hang of it what do you think?
  15. i like the green and also like the first blue very much, for sure the next guitar will have one of them two colors, i love this photoshop thing!!
  16. have you checked stew mac? i think these ones fit http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,...cs.html#details
  17. oh maaaaaaaaaan! i was just gonna say the same thing, how the heck do you guys do that? its really sick,i want every color in there,as a matter of fact I think that is the whole reason i started building my own guitar ,when i bought my first high end guitar i liked it and two days later i fell in love with a different color one,and god knows i cant afford more than one, anyways ,gentlemen i really, really ,appreciate the feeback, and i let you know that i am leaning towards sign guy s opinion a little bit more, only i am spraying nitro not poly,so i ll just try to tint the coat with a little amber, hopefully i dont mess it up,i ll post some more pics when i have some progress, right now it s very cold here and the humidity was 50 % i did spray a couple of coats today ,but they called for rain tomorrow ,is fifty % ok for spraying?,it didnt seem to affect my coats, any of you guys know what s the highest humidity level that can still allow me to spray succesfully? i like this forum by the way,a lot of help and i laugh a lot too, thanks guys.
  18. i have this stupid question, does any of you guys have those programs where you can simulate a different color on this pics like how would this look with a little bit of light light red and amber on top of it? i want to do it and at the same time i dont wanna mess it up,sorry for insisting so much with this ,any help i would appreciate.
  19. I think you would want to use dye rather than stain. ←
  20. hey thegarenman you ve got the same band saw i have that s cool, mine it s pretty old and i cant get pretty accurate cuts, its probably thati dont know how to set it up too ,anyways nice work ,keep pics coming.
  21. i know ,it does look different with the flash ,although it s closer to what it really looks like in real life,my attic is got poor lighting that s it,thanks for your comment.
  22. it has some clear on it, a couple of them i was thinking on some tinted clear on top of it ,just a little bit ,but yeah i like the idea of keeping that color too,the jack? i dont know ,is where i always use it ,i havent had any problems with it,but now you got me thinking.
  23. Hello gentlemen! this guitar is one of my latest projects i am not yet sure if i should spray some tinted lacquer on top of this ,amber maybe? or just let it be the color it has right now ,i know my wife likes it and she says its different than the yellow ,brown ,red i always paint, any opinions would be greatly appreciated.or comments,or critics, thanks. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olyen/Picture249.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d47/olyen/Picture256.jpg pics with and without flash.
  24. you gotta love Mark Knopfler ,it inspired me to play and since i couldnt afford to buy a pick i had to use fingers,it s pretty cool to know that he is also left handed, one of my favorites of all times, later on i got into malmsteen, not very similar playing per say, is he a left handed too, that would be sick if he is.
  25. it is crazy how many left handed people play right,i am one of them and whenever i can i encourage left handed people that wants to learn guitar to try a right handed, it worked for me anyways i even think there is a little advantage having a skilled left hand to move in the neck, or so i think.
