  1. You definately have some skills. Nice work.
  2. Cast metal is an object that has been made by pouring molten metals into a mold. Machined metal is a form that is cut out of a solid peace. Ill explain a little further, I used to work in a foundry. First the master is made; this is the exact shape of what the product is supposed to look like. It is either carved out of solid steal or plastic and are called “tools”. These hollow forms are then filled with wax, these forms are then dipped into slurry and various sands. The sandy wax mold is then put into a large auto-clave and all the wax is melted out. Next the molds go through a huge oven where they are brought up to temperature; from there they are quickly taken out of the oven, sat in a cart and filled with molten metal. From there they go to knock out where the shell is broke off with basically a huge squirt gun. Then the trees are cut off the molds. Next comes various stages of finishing including sanding, tolerance and clearance test, x-ray tests and slew of other rigorous tests. There are a few others forms of this process but they are all basically the same basic idea. As for machining, the metal starts as a block form, attained from a foundry where it was poured into this shape. The blocks are put into various machines like CNC, mills, lathes, stampers, formers to achieve the design...etc. etc... Hope that all makes sense.
  3. Their website says they are a compound...but dont know how long they have been doing that for.
  4. You know, the guitar is drop dead gorgeous; you executed building it so perfectly. BUT IMO for some reason, I hate the body shape! It reminds me of a duck running around my feet and I just want to kick it..sorry (Not trying to be rude) hahaha. I was looking at your site and all your guitars are fantastic looking. I was just wondering how many years have you been building for?
  5. Yeah its all opinion. I guess the guy should know what he really want before going to town on his body blank.
  6. Im not wrong, take that "5150" and try to bend the pitch sharp with the bar. You will see what Im talking about. You can still do it but not as sharp as you can flat. Ive owned guitars with the non recessed floyds and yes they are still considered "floating", but IMO they are almost useless to a point. I just dont like having the floyd if it is not recessed, thats all.
  7. Here, watch this video: http://www.wayneguitars.com/movies/clip377.mov Mine is the same idea as that but upside down.
  8. The first one is for strat style guitars where the floyd is not actually floating. This IMO is pretty pointless as you cant make the pitch sharp with the floyd as the body is in the way. I suggest you go the recessed direction for your floyd. The dimensionon on the floyd site should work great for you.
  9. So here are some pics of the table that I purchased for $160 w/router. Major SCORE IMO!!!! What do you think? The entire thing is made out of aluminum. The pin and router are controlled by spring loaded arms that are connect to the pedal. When you push the pedal down the router pulls back into the base and the pin arm lifts up. Anyway the guy also has an 8" joiner & a 15" plainer that Im going to get from him soon.
  10. Is it just me or is that neck thick as a log?
  11. Sure just let me pull out a million dollars out of the bank account and Ill run down to Coast to Coast hardware and pick ones oh these bad boys up.......
  12. Ok so I got my new Makita router a couple days ago. Same day my pops comes over and tells me one of the guys at work said he had a "pin router table" that he would sell to me, so I go and check it out and holy crap this thing rocks!!! The table base is nice and big and its all constructed extremely solid! He sold it to me for $160 AND he gave me a brand new porter cable router!!! SWEET!! He told me the table was about $1200 brand new. Now I have to put the time and effort in to perfect this craft.
  13. There is a video on the Wayne Guitars website of him doing his slotting on a radial arm. Seems to work just fine. No need for a jig if you have a radial. Just an accurate index point you can line your fret lines up with. ← Holy Crap!!! He does that so fast!!!!!
  14. I have also owned several guitars and i have always slowly taken all the strings off when I change them. The guitars that I change 1 string at a time are ones with an original style floyd rose. You have to change those one at a time otherwise its a bitch and you have to yank on the trem with your fingers and it kinda hurts a bit.... hahaha
  15. Think you can take a pic of the jig you made?
  16. Change the title of the thread to "Started a completely worthless thread today"
  17. Definately completely worthless............................
  18. I really like how the red and black contrast.....nice job.
  19. Did you get a chance to see if they carry some of the harder to get pieces. Like 8"+ 4/4 or 8/4 -Ebony Mac., Cocobola, Zircote, Bocote, Mad. Rosewood, Ind. Rosewood, Aus Blackwood, Afr Blackwood, pink Ivory etc... that look good at good prices. I am always trying to get my hands on more material for my acoustics, but availability comes and goes so I have to get what I can as long as the price is fair. Peace, Rich ← They had all of that Rich.... 4/4 and 8/4 in several different lengths. Next time I go up there I will check all the currect prices and see what they have to offer. Jera- That tree would cost alot to ship!!! You would better be off looking for a local supplier.
  20. I found this store way back in the industrial district in Reno, close to where I live. Ive been searching for soooo long for a local wood supplier! I am completely sick of paying for wood I only get to see a picture of and then getting raped by shipping. Anyway, I walk into this place to find that it is huge!!! They have so many different species of exotic hardwood and tonewoods I was seriously baffled. So many lengths, sizes, & widths, I was really freaking out. The workers in the store started to really look at me weird when I kept running from the woods to the price list like a 6 year old at toys r' us!! I couldn't believe how inexpensive they where compared to other suppliers Ive found on the net. So anyway after about a half hour of me just gaulking, I walk out of there with enough purple heart & lace wood to make 2, 3 piece necks and an enormous plank of some really nicely grained ash to make 4 body blanks. All for $70. I would have paid twice that amount if not more if I purchased through allot of these "recommended suppliers".. Im really stoked!
  21. That is just sick!!!!! Ill have to show my pops that paint, he'll love it!
  22. I checked both Home Depot and Lowes near me and neither had anything. And If they did I can gaurantee it would be soooooo wet still.
  23. A pair of digital calipers do the job nicely...dont know you have access to any though.
  24. Sadly, these days its not just the EPI LPs you have to watch out for........
  25. I would think you might want to get a radius blocks so the inlay has the same radius as the fretboard.
