  1. Tearout is caused by asking the bit to do to much regardless of how deep a pass you taking. Its a combination of the bit, depth, how much per pass ,router power and care and attention!! If you take your time taking a little off per pass you wont get tear out. I spend the whole time while routing listening the to motor, you can learn whats happening/gonna happen by doing that.
  2. I think he has put a sleeve on the pin so that he is cutting the body oversize to the template, I dont see how that causes less tear out. You still need to make the body the right size. Maybe he removes the pin later on to achieve the final shape. My Guess
  3. this Place has RG350DX in the UK http://guitarstrings.co.uk/search_details.asp?ID=721
  4. it so they dont do what a Les Paul does, when you turn down one volume the whole guitar turns down. This is because the volumes are in paralel, Basically u need to wire it like a Jazz Bass.
  5. check this http://www.ibanezregister.com/images/images-jems/angle.jpg
  6. that guy is awesome! i cant believe some of his work.
  7. I agree, a second hand RG550 or 570/770 would be better. The 350DX is a cool looking guitar though and well worth the money.
  8. Where abouts in scotland are ya? Any other scots kicking around?
  9. I was off work today so i got a chance to practice routing the truss rod channel and carbon fibre channnels. Now i have a super tough corner shelf! I have ordered my woods for the neck Lam. Birds eye maple, bubinga, wenge and paduak. Still not got body woods, i want limba but may have to go for mohog if i cant get it. If anyone wants to design some headstock shapes, Great!
  10. Sounds like an excellent idea, I hadn't heard of it till now but i checked it out on the site. Its gonna make you rich!
  11. Gibson were losing money because people were buying the PRS tremonti SE over the Epiphone LP, nothing to do with the American Made ones. If a Guy wants a Gibson Les Paul because such and such uses one or because he has always wanted one hes not going to consider the PRS. In the whole time i have worked in a guitar shop we have sold 500 Gibson Les Pauls to 1, yes 1 PRS Singlecut. In the same time we went from Selling 100% Epi LP to around 50/50 Epi LP to PRS SE. Now add all that up with all the Kids around the world who are looking for a guitar in that style. A Lot of Cash. I have the Info from someone who works for Gibson BTW. If it really was about the shape then they would have gone for the likes of ESP as other have said, that actually looks like a Les Paul.
  12. Hey i am really loving some of the black limba blanks, what would the shiping be to The UK?

  14. Its all a few laughs for me until my damm stew mac and wood order arrives and i can get down to brass tacks as it were. In fact i may even get a pic of some wood up here before the end of the year!!!
  15. samick makes all the cheap Ibanez (korean) Guitars as well as washburn ans epiphone just so you know.
  16. Its all fun and games and healthy talk as it should be.
  17. I think some of you guys are maybe taking my iceman/parker Fly/006 Hybrid title a little too literally, I am borrowing ideas from all these guitar but what is original these days? Every thing thats a double cut with a top horn longer than the bottom can easily be said that its a little straty, Single cuts are all either les paul or tele like or a lot of variations on that theme. To me it seems it would be difficult to come up with an original design thats still comfortable and playable but without resembling anything you have ever seen before, An Iceman for example looks alot like a little explorer to me. I like the idea Skibum BTW, nice. I have only just ordered the fingerboard and neck lams today so the design is not set in stone at all, its set in thin air LOL. Anyway to a lighter note here is an ugly hybrid Here
  18. Hehe. Anyone else got some funny names when you combine guitars together? Some one could mock up the MockingFLy (pun intended).
  19. Yes 006 is a bad version of James Bond But also a guitar made by Schecter. I will probably alter the "final" design many time before i settle on something but i'm taking bits from each I ordered wood today for the neck today. Some birdeye maple, bubinga, wenge and paduak. I wont use it all, ill pick and chose and get opinions. Anyone know a good place to buy limba online or by phone in the UK? Craft supplies doesnt have any.
  20. That other "icefly" doesnt really look anything like what i have in my head. Does It?
  21. Thanks Mledbetter, I Do not normally go for guitar that are weird shape but this seems to tickle my fancy Now check what Algae has come up with I am ordering the neck wood tomorrow and i think im going for Maple, bubinga,Padauk, bubinga,Maple in 1 inch, 1/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1 inch strips in that order. What do you think?
  22. Thanks for your coments PSW, It wont really be just a hybrid of the 2 it takes elements of both and many other things. The hardware will be different to both guitars and maybe pickups too. If i wanted just an iceman i would just build that, it would probably be easier. Thanks for your Feedback
  23. 1/2 and 3/8 Router Bits with top bearings for rounting out cavity using templates etc. Where do you get them in the UK? I forgot to order from stewmac
