  1. My advice would be to get something tube ,low wattage and don't worry about the overdrive from it. You can always use a good OD pedal to get nice tubey/blues thing. Anyone tried Conford Amps? The little 5 watt thing?
  2. The american 2 point system is really good imo. It doesn't go out of tune if set up well. The six point system can't really be made to take to much abuse. I like the way the 2 poiny one looks too.
  3. Yea also perry your guitars look better than eveyone elses cause of that nice aussie sun! Thats unfair, i'm not voting for u
  4. A bandsaw is a little overkill to cut out a headstock, what you need is a coping saw. These run at about £20 why dont you just draw round and existing guitar as your template?
  5. Have you messed around with the sounds you get from that 5 way switch you put in?
  6. I am so glad you have completed her dave, whats it like to play? Did you do a good job of the fret leveling? I know what ill be voting for in GOTM. Watch the pic posting rules before a big bad mods comes and does it for ya?!!!
  7. Ebony! That would look great. I really wanna see someone use those board from that seller as i am considering using one myself.
  8. I would do some vines i think it would be awesome, that same ebay guy sell pyramids too, but you probably know that.
  9. Thats seems ok. It doesnt matter about how many frets you have. Heres a pic of mine. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/gem...at/DSC00008.jpg
  10. Move all the saddles as far forward as possible without risk of the screws falling out, now mark the scale lenghts from the front edge of the nut all the way down the neck and on to the body and draw a line square to that line. Put the bridge on the body with the front edge of the saddles (take off point of the saddles)on that line. This gives you plenty of room to move the saddles back to intonate properly. Maybe some one has a diagram. Good Luck
  11. It depends on a few things. Neck angle, bridge height etc. Typically 22mm-25mm if its a fender type neck joint.
  12. Can you post a pic of your Bridge? Is it a tele type bridge?
  13. Engl are fantastic amps simo. www.synergydistribution.co.uk are the people to call to find dealers in your area. Also have a look at hughes and kettner amps too.
  14. Use 2 part slow dryin epoxy, drill the holes using brad point bits put a little epoxy in the hole put the dot in the put a little on top of the dot and make sure its seated ok. Then you sand them flat when they are dry.
  15. Cant you use a 6inch steel rule to do your measurements? Most dots are 5 or 6mm. Good luck
  16. Thats amazing dave! Show the big companies how to get nitro flat and gleaming. Watch your pic count there btw 1 pic per post rule.
  17. There's a big market for "fancy" guitars these days. 5A maple tops, gold hardware etc. I think you really need to aim for higher up the ladder if you want to make money. How much do you think you could make a standard telecaster for? Maple neck, ash/alder body etc and what do you think you could get for it? Is that worth it? Going higher up and adding fancy inlays etc doesn't make a guitar any better as a guitar (and only really costs time, not money) but really increases prices. Just look at PRS's up charge price list, $250 for gold hardware etc. I can't think of any smaller makers that build simply but good guitars that do well. Unfortunatley low prices equals low quality in many peoples eyes, and that can be difficult to get away from or change people's minds.
  18. Not all of these are suitable for what you wanna do. Lime is lightish also known as Basswood. I'm not sure what you mean by best.
  19. Are you sure 40mm to 55 seems a little small? You have a band saw use that, then make a template of the taper and then route round it.
  20. Fairly boring to look at but if it is inside then it doesn't matter, as you say takes a finish really well. Its a stable wood when dry so i dont see i being a problem. I believe its still used in boating for rope guides etc because its wears smooth. Go for it.
  21. You can use a thinner heel if you neck pocket isn't as deep, its all relative as you say. Keep the heel on the the thicker side of those measurements, you can allways trim down. What type of guitar are you building? what type of bridge are you using? Neck angle. The minium for the heel must be more that about 13mm not including your fingerboard.
  22. Isn't that a reason for carbon inlayed in the neck? I think dead spots is just a word coined by some marketing man at some point to dis other makers. I agree that thinner neck are more prone to notes not ringing out but i put this down to lack of rigidity or bad frets/fretslots. Did you get over the trem issue toddler?
  23. How cheap? Get an edge if u can and check ebay. Typically £50-£100
