  1. Final update. I tried to rewire and solder down everything but only got partial sound. I went ahead and just pulled out the Reflex preamp and pots. It was replaced with a Tone Monster sbk-3ad prewired preamp since I wanted a fresh start on it. Yes, it was a little more than I wanted but it solved the issues I was having. Having dual stacked pots have turned this fretless into a beast worthy of someone else who actually knows how to play it.
  2. Welp. I'm an idiot. I said I would be done. I wanted less projects. I said I wouldn't buy any more basses because I picked up a nice Schecter Diamond Elite 5. I had a frustrating time with an Sr400fl electronics because I had $100 burning a hole in my project..... So.... I logged into ebay and an Ibanez sr505 scrolled across the my screen, used with a case, auction for charity, price was only a paltry $110. I always wantrd one so popped a $150 bid on it, and stupidly enough, won. After an anxious week of waiting and apologizing to my long suffering wife, it showed up intact courtesy of the Fed Ex man. Immediately, I set about testing it to verify it worked and take stock of what i had just gotten into. Someone has abused this poor bass. The finish is shot. The was blue paint all over everything, the nut was off and double taped, theres a hairline crack on the head stock, one of the tuner screws was stripped, the action is all frets, the saddles dont appear to be setup at all..... Someone has added 2 push/pull pots to the electronics, so theres that. I want to refinish this beast and have this serve as a cautionary tale of ebay guitars
  3. Apparently I forgot/didnt read what you said Curtisa. Looks like I repeated what you said a year ago. I want to add some of the troubleshooting involved janky solder joints, broken wires, and my blind trust that someone knew what they were doing. Inspection of the mess that lay before me revealed that I probably shouldve started rewiring pots from scratch with new wiring. Complicating that with my poor excuse for soldering skills and worn out soldering gun. Sigh. Live and learn...the hard way.
  4. So if anyone cares, I packed the bass away last year and came back to it jist now. After some research, I believe I understand the intent the project was heading. The OG electronics had a Vol/bass/treb knobs. This one was modified and looks like it was intended to follow the Reflex preamp system but with an added blend knob in place of a switch. I think if i glance over the schematics again, I'll have a unique custome fretless.
  5. Its interesting because this guy had modified the wiring to be volume, tone, mid, blend and none of the diagrams have that layout.
  6. Apparently i didnt look hard enough. The are images i pulled off ebay. Its not *exactly* what i need but it gives me enough to work with and I'll post here in case some archaeologist needs them.
  7. Im reading up on it. They were used in Jacksons and Charvels. I found on on ebay buts just the blackbox, no instructions.
  8. I dont think it is. It may not even be intended for this bass at all. The family just grouped thins together. The guy had interesting projects such as "the stratobass" - a pbass short scale neck on a strat body.
  9. Ive made some progress. I peeled everything off including the double sided tape. "Reflex" theres 7 wires coming out of it. So its progress.
  10. Nothing. Its a black box with black electrical tape which is holding 2 wires coiled.
  11. I acquired a fretless project from a couple not terribly far from me. The brother died and left a pile of unfinished projects. What I got was an Ibanez 400 FL fretless bass with no installed electronics. It came with knobs and a case but the biggest surprise was a mysterious preamp that appears to be mostly wired. Its assumed to be the intended project components. So i need help trying to identify it so i can verify everything and get it wired in. There no number or markings. Any help appreciated.
  12. No worries, I'm using my regular bass with active electronics Bartolini Pickups. I figured a quick rewire would be more efficient than starting from scratch. I wont have to buy anything wince all the main components would be there.
  13. Hey gang, its been awhile! So I was discussing with the band about recording when it came up that I will probably need to get a DI for my bass. I have an AMPEG B2R head with an XLR DI on the back, but its shot (like they all are apparently) I went through my parts bin and found an old Gorilla bass practice amp that the entire speaker was destroyed on. I had removed the amp casing and left it for reasons I cant remember. Now, with a little effort, I think I can rewire it into a mean little active DI box. Before I go and tear things apart, has anyone done something like this? Sorry if my "outside the box" mentality bugs some of you who havent been on the forums at the same time I had.
  14. What did you do with the NES boards and parts? I'd be interested in picking them up if you got them laying around....
  15. I am also selling an ABM Gold Bass Trem Bridge with a Floyd Rose style design from before they went bankrupt. Taking offers.
  16. Do you have any blocks like 8" x 5" x 3"? I need to make a heel.
  17. OKay, SO I am building a bassjo using a hand drum, a ibanez neck (autographed by Korn) and some threaded dowel. What I need is a nice chunk of wood to connect the bolt on neck to the body. I figured you guys would have a piece or two laying around. Something like 8" x 5" x 3" should do it. Any one? I can trade parts and stuff for it.
  18. I guess I get used to people acting like some idea that I've seen used before isn't the greatest and get offensive about it. I was half expecting a "just use flatwound strings" response. I figured that epoxy would be simply enough, i just wondered if anyone had done it and it was as simple as it sounds.
  19. I've seen some guitars, fretless basses mainly, where the fretboard has an epoxy finish. I know this seems dumb, but has anyone done this? I have a conversion bass neck where I think it would benefit greatly from an epoxy finish. I once mounted it on a body and played it, but I never put any kind of finish on and it got all scratched.
  20. The p4 are passive? I thought all barts were active :embaressed: Alright! I knew if I let this sit long enough, someone would reply eventually! I have no clue about the preamp other than "it's from an Ibanez". I picked it up from an auction since I was in the market for one. The original wiring was removed and the guy who redid it wired all the pots backwards. I thought it sounded a lot like crap so I tore it all out and threw the preamp in. Only problem was that I couldnt find any info online for that model pickup. I did see that electronics site however. I wonder if the SW is supposed to go to a stereo pickup. Forgive me. It's been so long since I tinkered with my basses and electronics, I'm afraid I cant remember much about wiring anymore
  21. Ok. SO no takers, eh? I went out an bought some pans and lids to use as a resonator and covaer. Now I see on ebay that you can get a 10.5" cone for under $20 shipped. Sigh. Alright so I want to remove the top on this thing, now mind you, it does have binding. Any suggestions?
  22. The hilarious part was the singer sounded like Nathan Explosion from Dethklok when he "sang" and when I was doing my retort, I had a Les Claypool thing going. My voice when I overuse it tend to get higher register and somewhat twangy. The next practice I let the singer go because his style was too different from the band, no hard feelings. Now we got a Hetfield/Lemmy coming in to audition.
  23. four. Its in chrome and set like a TUNEOMATIC, but it has a back plate. The E saddle is worn a bit though. Otherwise this tis in great condition. I am looking to buy a house for my family and I'll need to start clearing out clutter before I move and raising capitol for inspectors, first months mortgage, closing costs, ETC. If anyone is interested, please make me an offer. I might even have to start selling my bass tremolo bridges.
