  1. I have an LP gotoh Tuners set 3x3 in gold. Trade for a bunch? Otherwise I think I might have a bass tuner set laying around.
  2. Well, after the 60's surf band played, we slowly set up our equipment and got everything ready. I gazed out among the sea of faces, mostly children and older folk and spoke the words, "Ladies and Gentlemen. We are Gryzor. If you have high blood pressure, heart problems, have small children or are pregnant, please locate the exit at the back and file out in an orderly fashion. (Brief pause as I looked tat the confusion.) Alright, you've been warned." WE ran through our aggressive set. With relatively little problems. The worst was that my EQ was messed up and we should've brought monitors because our drummer couldnt hear us. After a few songs, I grabbed the mike again. "I see some of you are still here. Perhaps we aren't trying hard enough. Remember the bar is still open. With each drink our music sounds a little better." We finished our set and packed up. No one threw things at us. NO one called us names. My brother wanted to get us down to Florida or a few shows because he wanted us to meet his friends, some band called "Trivium."
  3. Iron Maiden is the greatest NWOBHM band!! Tonight's the big night. I'll let you know how things work out.
  4. Pretty cool sound you guys had. You still doing bass work in a band? My band is getting set for it's first gig and its loaded with so many ways to fail. 1)We're Extreme Metal. 2)This will be the Singer's first gig. Ever. 3)Its for a Benefit concert with other acts who are completely not metal 4)all of my family, immediate and in laws, will be there. They are not metal fans. 5)The stage is the size of a kitchen table. 6)We are no where mentioned to be there on the bill. 7)Angsty lyrics + Dethklok vocals + Punk speed metal drumming +Aggressive crunchy guitars + blazing solos + thundering bass +65 and older crowd.....= someone is going to have a heart attack. I'm thinking before we take the stage to issue warnings to the crowd. Hopefully my friend will remember to bring a camera so we can record this haunting memory.
  5. Damn straight! It came with a set of beat up strings, so I went out and bought a new set and an el cheapo case. I want to put a piezo and end pin jack.
  6. Looks like a Gibson toggle out of a Les Paul....
  7. You can get cheap piezo elements from headphone speakers. Everyone has band old headphones that you can tear apart.
  8. I live in an apartment building and there are building dumpsters and recycling bins. Not too long ago, I went down to the recycle dumpster to drop off a load of garbage and lo and behold. What lay on top of a stack of cardboard was what looked like a guitar. I picked it up and sure enough it was an acoustic. I read the label "Yamaha Fg-150". Since I am an electric bassist, I had no clue. I examined it and determined that aside from a lot of dust, some finish scratches and knicks here and there, it is in sound condition. Now for the big obvious dumb question.... What should I do with it? I mean, sand it down, add filler, re finish or keep its road worn charm?
  9. LP backplates sold. Thank you Avengers63!
  10. Hey guys, I have a bunch of seemingly random tidbits from misc projects that I don't need anymore. I've decided to get out of doing the whole Luthiery thing as a major hobby, you know how it goes. -1 chrome humbucker ring -Worn jazz bass style control plate -Bass .100 uf tone capacitors -Unknown brand Jazz bass neck and body. Geddy Lee style block inlays. (Neck is ok, pulled frets. Someone spraypainted this thing white for some reason, flakes off). body is pressboard. I sanded the body down and tried the material finish. -random guitar back plate (will get pic up later) -Gibson LP Custom gold self adhesive logo for refurbs -1 screwless guitar tuner chrome -Fender j bass bridge -Schaller bass Roller bridge, chrome -set of five gotoh style bass tuners, no bushing/lock nut or screws. I have some other stuff so I will be updating this whole thread. Please feel free to make an offer.
  11. Well, It's been close to a year and I still never touched this project, so I placed this in the classifieds. If anyone is interested...
  12. Hello lads, Well, it has to happen to some of us after a while. I have run out of room and time for some of my projects. Here is a Crestwood 4 string acoustic bass with all kinds of goodies I've been hoping to add to this project. WHAT IS WRONG. This is a factory second, some [really brilliant soul] put the bridge too far up on the body. I pulled the bridge and moved the bridge and redrilled the holes only to have been slightly off on my calculations and subsequently drilled through the x brace. Some of you expressed in the past how fun it might be to retop. Well, I don't have the time for *that* kind of fun. WHATS INCLUDED. Four silver 2x2 Gotoh style tuners, nut, saddle, EQ with undersaddle pickup and output jack. I'll even throw in a new set of Dean Markley Blue Nickle lights if one desires. I think I paid around $200 or more for the whole shebang. Taking all reasonable offers.
  13. I'm not sure. It has a few cracks that I patched and it was merely shaped. It needs final shaping, planing, and sanding done. So would that wood match that?
  14. Make darn sure that spalted neck is stable, I'd recommend carbon fiber reinforcement. Not many people are gutsy enough to try a spalted neck. I thinks its spalted...I dont know. Its a traditional neck from a luthier in Germany.
  15. I want to make an electric upright body. Would that wood go with my spalted maple neck?
  16. Les Claypool of Primus has one. He used it with Flying Frog Brigade on the Purple Onion album. That guy is insane with it.
  17. Well, I once jammed a thin flathead into the back disc on a gotoh, popped the sucker right out. All you need then is unscrew the gear from the shaft and your done. It's really straight forward. On a related note, I have a black gotoh bass tuner with a snapped shaft for parts if anyone needs it...
  18. I bought one of these, only I needed one with a longer shaft to work with my guitar. I don't know what to do since I don't think i've seen any those.
  19. I was going to be running my Ampeg B2 head thought it but now I not so sure. I was told by a professional bassist that my rig doesnt matter, its the guy at the sound board. Even I get a First Act from Walmart or a Goliath from SWR the guy whose doing sound could easily make the cheaper one sound leagues better. The funny thing is that the ported bass cab is more expensive than the one thats non ported
  20. Forget those punks behind the counter. The last time I went to GC I ended up taking those guys for a ride (i think). I walked in and was eying an Ibanez 506 bass used, mind you. I took it up to the counter and told the guy the knobs were loose, the finish was banged up and I didn't think that it was worth paying their price for. The guys started to sweat a little and his supervisor came up and said he could take care of it. But he pushed me into getting a new one. I told him I wanted a used one. He knocked the price down about $100 and handed it back to the first guy I talked to. I then proudly presented the first guy with my rebate comp that they had just mailed to me. He stared at it and was like, "you can only used that on green tag items." I then politely pointed out that there was no mention of that in the coupon and there were certainly no green tag items at all in the guitars section. He relented and knocked the price down further. I told him as he was ringing it up that I wasn't going to leave without a case...used of course. He disappeared and came back with a neat Fender one. For whatever reason he couldn't find it in their inventory so I got a used hardshell for $20 and a new $700 bass for $475. Hahaha! Take that corporate schills!
  21. Only if you need to work around binding or aesthetics. I bought a pair off ebay from a seller for about $15 or $20. I got a set of pullers too from the same guy for $10!
