  1. Thanks! Next question: would someplace like Home Depot carry these guide collars, or where could I get one?
  2. Ok, I've got two issues with the template I have for a neck pocket (purchased from StewMac), and I need some answers as to how to best use this thing... 1) According to the StewMac literature, the template is constructed to be .04" larger than an actual neck. They suggest taping the bearing(s) of the router to compensate for this. I've tried with electrical tape, and it lasts less than a second against the edge of the template... what would you guys suggest? 2) Securing this bad boy. The diagram provided by StewMac shows a pair of pipe clamps with the biggest freakin lips on them that I've ever seen (and have never seen on a real pipe clamp). As I don't own a pair of these, how do you guys hold down template when you're using them? Thanks...
  3. That trem pull with the strings on is quite easy, not nearly as hard as it looks.
  4. We little guys can also run like hell, whether it's from your ass, or if we're coming after you. Not to mention the fact that we bite!
  5. nope... the neck pocket, pickups, bridge, electronics will be different (well, electronics only if you want them to be...), but the body is exactly the same.
  6. you may want to check this out: http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exe?...=2&P2=WS1&P1=EP everything you need in one package.
  7. Excellent idea. But it all depends on what you want, and how far you want to go...
  8. it's.... interesting. Let us know how it turns out! I'll definately be interested to see that.
  9. My friend has one of the AVT amps (I think it's a 50 watt, it's a combo). It's no JCM, but it does kick ass.
  10. 10-46 (think it's 46, I'm not really sure).
  11. theoretically, yes you can mount a synth inside a guitar. But what kind of synth and why on earth would you do that? If you need something like that, Roland makes guitar/floorboard setups that can do that, and would be much more versatile.
  12. I'd agree, buy based on the neck: it's the one thing you can't change. If you decide you don't like the tone or trem, those can be replaced, but to replace the neck (especially to the one you like, rather than the standard Warmoth or Stew Mac profiles) will be far more difficult. Just my two cents, but I'd much sooner take my RG520 over a Jem555. But again, that's just my opinion.
  13. I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Avoid Jemsite like the plague. All the time you'll spend wading thru the elitism makes it easier to just figure it out yourself. too late... Anyway, I've found a lot less elitism on that site than many others I've joined. The 555 is about the only thing they have an issue with there.
  14. as taken from Jemsite:
  15. A: I'd take the Jem in a heartbeat (just IMO) B: I don't think Marty had a whole lot of say in that album, knowing Dave.
  16. posts... blocks. Is this a stopbar bridge? I'm going to assume you mean 25.5 to the first bar, then 10/16 to the second one. The scale length is really only the length of string that vibrates when you play. Because the string is muted as it goes over the first bar, with the saddles, it does not vibrate behind it, and thus the measurement from bridge to tailpiece (the 10/16ths) is not included in the scale length.
  17. It sure is... I had to test a lot to learn how the different colors react... It was worth while though! it certainly was, especially if you got that on the first try!
  18. I've never seen a lower knob that's numbered. You might be able to find a top one to fit on that would work, but I don't think you're going to find a lower one (not much surface to put numbers on. A black strat-style knob over a knurled (normal concentric) style would look pretty sweet... Where were you wanting to put numbers on the knob?
  19. how much do these things go for (decent ones)?
  20. Nice work! Who's holding that thing?
