  1. Let's see, i wasn't exactly blown away with the first pic there, so i'm anxious to see you fix the the body shape a bit...
  2. drum sander for something that pointy.. it takes a little getting used to to be able to sand continual smooth lines with a drum though so take your time till you get the hang of it.
  3. I have an existing Central vac from my house i moved to the shop it has a 2" inlet and I baught the 2" clear tubing (100$can kit) to run thru my shop, aswell as 25 feet of 2-1/2"clear hose that was 60$can to hook up to my tools since most have 2-1/2" dust ports. The system is ok, but the bucket on the vac is kinda small, And the local 1hp 4" stand up bag model is on sale for 175.00$can ( 130$ US) IS it really worth the extra money to scrap my 2" tubbing, buy a new 4" tubing kit( probably another 100$), and buy the 4" vac for 175$? Will it be more powerfull? i know i'll never have to worry about clogs and such...
  4. I'm suprised no one mentioned LGM yet, he started making necks, might want to check out his pricing or drop him a line for an exact quote if you want something special.
  5. you mean that 0.080" freud? seen that before, it's about 90$ after tax up here, it's on the wish list for down the road.. i took apart the fence, tighted 2 bolts on it... then tried a couple different types of screws on a particle board, was able to get something satisfactory for now. Used some tape to square up the bottom, which is fine for big peices. Still took some finess, but i guess that's what project guitar is all about (the C-clamp is just a tightening handle)
  6. well i'd like to save a bit more wood then that, but that's a good backup plan. however one of the peices i need to resaw is only 5/8" thick.. which seems a little to thin for that...
  7. I'm trying to rig up something for my bandsaw so that i can resaw some 8" tall (wide) boards... but i'm not having a whole lot of luck... the extisting fence isn't exactly a "deluxe" model... and the attempts thus far to screw a peice of ply wood to it have been less then spectacular.. so i'm pretty much starting from sratch, any ideas on affordable solide, true, and tall resawing fences?
  8. I have a set of Emg 45J pickups, they're supposed to be for 6 string basses, but i think someone was saying that they would be good for 8 string guitars, if any one's interested... figured it was fairly related
  9. Rout size comparison thread: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=633 The original has what alot of people call a "whale tail" the plate that the fine tuners are on sticks out of the guitar much more, and some people find it gets in the way of their palm. The original requires more room behind the actual unit for the string clamping screws to stick out. The EVH D-Tuna will only fit the Original models. Orignal saddle The Pro, has a much lower profile, so it sticks out of the guitar much less and doesn't interfere with palm movement if you really need an excessive amount of room. The string clamping screws are about 1/10 the length of the originals since they don't run under the fine tuners, so there's no need to extra room behind the bar that holds the fine tuners. Instead the fine tuners make contact with a little peice of metal that loops under the fine tuners, this obviously means you need a slightly deeper rout for a pro model, but it's a smaller rout in terms of space on the front of the guitar. Pro saddle
  10. I have some walnut and maple i'll be giving this "drop top" stuff a try. Iis it the thinner the better/easier when trying to bend over the contour? also could you use an iron on the wood to steam just that section? (obviously with an old shirt or rag protecting to wood from burns) EDIT: woops, just read Scott's "step six" in that pinned thread
  11. those where actually the floyd rose II models, they had a cheaper baseplate and softer knife edges.
  12. yea, those are pretty cool. except for the screws sticking out of the fingerboard. although tacky, i thought that was fine, however the finish on those guitars sucked, nothing a bit of 600 grit ans linseed oil couldn't fix though..
  13. i don't get it.... are you veneering the sides of the guitar?
  14. On a side note, either washburn or hammer where doing something like this... i think it was blending a full hum to just one coil in a turning pot instead of a push pull pot.
  15. I wonder how much Brian or DaveK would charge to poweder coat something like that? i remember they where saying they could do white, but i duno about a satin chrome...
  16. ok, guess i'll keep looking
  17. Just browsing around ebay i found someone supplying TKL cases, Generic 89.99 and Deluxe 119.99 Think those are decent prices? I have one of the deluxe cases that came with my guitar years ago, seems ok. I'm pondering getting a couple for the soon to be completed guitars. What ever happend to the couple of people that where going to try their hand at making cases?
  18. there's also the center line issue.... having that glue joint is great cause it also doubles as a centerline that will never sand or rub away during construction of the guitar. just something to consider..
  19. by "ok" you mean continual? smooth? the desired radius and not another ? you can make guages, or buy a set to check it.
  20. ya, the low end acrylic at home depot is kinda... well... cheap, drilling plexiglass is pretty tricky i usualy do it at the highest speed on my drill press, almost melting the bit thru, cause it likes to shoot up the bit and crack right after you go all the way thru. I use the cheap stuff for pickguards and the high grade stuff from local plastics shops for templates.
  21. what where you using when it cracked? i use my scroll saw for the fine detail stuff, or a router, chances are you're blade wasn't fine/sharpe enough...
  22. Taylor's, i really like their low end models, i think it's the baby series?
  23. does anyone know who makes the lightest tuners? can we all weight the sets we have (measure all 6 at once) and we can compare, when i slapted the gotoh's on, i found my ultra light neck wasn't so light anymore
  24. Universal Jems sells the key intonation tool here!! but it only fits the original style models.
