  1. The only reason for the spruce is the looks, nothing else and I'm hoping a nitro finish will help with the dentiness a bit.
  2. Since my compulsory army duty is coming to an end, I'm finally thinking about starting my first from scratch solidbody. Specs: 25" scale Mahogany core and neck Engelman Spruce top and back Ebony fingerboard and headstock overlay Ebony-birch binding on neck and rosewood-maple binding on body GFS P90's, tailpiece, bridge and tuners. 2 volumes, 1 5-way switch(maybe) Bone nut No inlay Heres everything
  3. Acg had one super awesome ebony topped guitar.
  4. I suggest you look around a bit, I'm quite sure there are cheaper options for the body.
  5. Off topic but sort of about pedals: pedals to the metal.
  6. Could also make the fretboard thinner and just sandwich a slice of stronger wood between the neck and fb. That way you'll also have a cool looking accent line if you decide to do binding. --edit-- Keep in mind I've never actually done it and am no expert in these matters.
  7. There was this post recently about hardwood/cf paddles for certain types of people. I think that'd be a good idea to make money to support your guitar projects.
  8. Do you think a soundhole like this will be strong enough or would it be too flimsy?
  9. Introduction: Alright, I've never built an ukulele before so this will probably be a challenge. I don't really know a whole lot about ukuleles either but I have been doing some reading. The first thing I found out was that they're really really tiny . After doing some picture stretching and comparing with specs from a "real" ukulele I've ended up with a real sized plan. And this is about where I am. Specs: The neck will be a spruce, mahogany, birch, ebony, birch, mahogany, spruce laminate. They're all pieces of scrap left over from other woodworking projects. The body will have beech top and back, birch sides, pine neck and tail blocks and some unknown quartersawn wood for braces and kerfing. All the wood together cost about $1.40. The fingerboard will be ebony and so will the bridge. Tuners are off a cheap fake strat and the nut will be bone. The body will also have some black plastic binding. Concert(I think) scale - 382mm or 15"(whatever that means). Jumbo frets and maybe a piezo pickup. Conclusion: I hope I don't mess up bad. Tips from people with uke building experience are very welcome.
  10. I see a cheap and easy tutorial coming up... :D
  11. I don't think it'd sound "really really" bad. I'm sure people would stop playing and building them if that was true. Personally I hate the normal V's. They look so out of place all the time. But I really like the look of the acoustic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADMhcnpnZeE. If you have nothing better to do I say go for it.
  12. Ohh diddle I missed that bit. I need to stop just clicking on the pictures.
  13. How are you going to cut the fret slots through the inlay on a bound board?
  14. I actually ordered the exact same set of pups for my shtrat. Haven't put them in yet though.
  15. The usual safe amount is 3x2feet like levijames said.
