  1. update: got hot rod and ordered the hipshot bridge so no need for the floyd, starting this monster in a few weeks
  2. awesome design, but im not a fan of the top wood you used, looks nasty to me, but i like the guitar!
  3. what size truss rod should i use for this guitar guys, will i be able to get away with a standard 18" rod or should i go for a 24"?
  4. no i wont be doing fanned frets on this guitar, and that ibanez is super sweet, it has a fixed 8 string edge on it which was where I got the idea for the floyd, and as for vocational schools i will check that out as well! meshuggah are awesome
  5. no problem man, so i finally settled on a design though, it will be based off of a conklin but with a heavily quilted top with trans purple, blue or green this is the url for it http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/893...itar7.jpg\ now do you guys think that i should go with black or chrome hardware?
  6. jer, i can *possibly* get a scan of what ive done so far by the end of the week, it has all the dimensions on it that i will need, if you could get that done, that would be absolutly awesome! Pm me later this week and we'll talk about it. and alexander, jammy owns one, ask him
  7. i already stated it would be tuned to F#, A, E, A, D, G, b, e wes!
  8. perhaps i should have reworded that, i meant the .58 for the A string not the F#!
  9. me, i guess im not all up on the digital age yet, i use paper and pencils to plan a new project!
  10. thats what i figured i would have to do, but only on the F# string, i dont think i will have to drill out for a .58 will I?
  11. they work for me, but after the initial ***? its looks kinda cool, but very wierd!
  12. you could do that, or you could mount the 2 extra tuners on the back of the body and have ferrules going in the neck (old school bc rich, neal moser way) sounds kinda cool, but I will take my 8 anyday! (f# and B strings, fagettaboutit!)
  13. kinda reminds me of lgms guitars, looks cool though! i want to see it when its done
  14. now that im starting to get a clearer picture of what all is going to be in this guitar, what color hardware do you guys think i should use, its going to be having a quilt top with a trans blue/green/black/violet finish, i was thinking either black or or gold, also with the tuning machines, will i have to buy 2 extra E string tuners or what will i have to do>?
  15. thats about what i figured, thanks lgm. also about pickups, i know you used dc45's on jammy's 8 but is that all thats available is emg's?i have contacted seymour duncan and they said they could build them, they just perfer not to, i dont blame them right now 8's are a niche market!
  16. well according to my estimations, that would be a 2" nut spacing, sounds kinda small! another question guys, how will i go abouts calculating the scale length? i have wfret and of coarse it does not have anything like that, and i plan on using a 27" scale length.
  17. well, that makes perfect sense, thats what i did when i designed my bridge for it, now i just have to have it cnc'ed out! anybody know who would be able to do it for cheap? I have a technical drawing of what i need, all measurements, etc but i havent done cad before so i would have to have that done as well before it was milled, damned 8 string floyd rose!!!
  18. believe me rhoads i am looking, but theres not a heck of a lot info out there on 8 string electrics that i have found
  19. well i am figuring that the string spacing at the bridge is about 3 1/16ths would that be about right guys?
  20. guys im getting ready to draw up plans for an 8 string guitar but I dont have a clue what the standard string spacing is at the nut? im assuming that its around 2 3/8"? jeremy if I was tuned to F# (A,E,A,D,G,B,E) what would be a "normal" spacing? ( i ask this because of the underabundance of 8's!)
  21. looking awesome man, that tear-out sucks though man, never had that problem myself, but i havent dealt with figured woods yet so heres to the best!
  22. you should also look into neal mosers booster switch, its a 10x gain boost unit, so whatever your using is going to get a bit of omph!
  23. looks pretty cool man, but that things going to weigh a ton!
  24. 60 more cd's to go, and its lookin pretty good thus far man, if it needs ferrules man just do it, its not that tough to do and better sustain!
