  1. well eddie, given your suggestion and some thought i just might be doing diamond inlays on her, now im just trying to figure out if I want to do the entire guitar as a quilt top or just the wings and throw some stringers in there, anybody want to throw in there 2 cents?
  2. omg, this thread is pathetic...the information is on this board, and also in several books, do the research.
  3. ^+2, hence why i have never built a guitar, i have done projects however.
  4. well I have built several bodies and have tried to make my own necks for since i signed up here (truth be told i havent tried to make a neck since the whole "situation") but i have been honing my skills pine(super cheap and easy as hell to work with) and im fairly sure i could easily build a neck from the ground up now, and i fully intend on doing so on this ironbird and with the extra blank i have here, i may even start a new guitar while im building the 'bird, this forum has so much information on every aspect of guitar building, it came be overwhelming sometimes when you really think about it, just take your time read through it and most of all USE THE INFORMATION GIVEN TO YOU! knowing how to build a guitar is all well and good but its nothing until you actually get out there and do it, i have been learing that for the last few months now.
  5. im really liking that color, it reminds me of my violin! awesome work man, keep it up.
  6. its worth a shot man, if you can do the work yourself its cool, im no good with metal work.
  7. it gets more costly, I was going to make an 8 string floyd rose bridge, I wont say how much it was going to cost in machining costs and materials, but lets just say i could have almost had an 8 built for me for what it was going to cost.
  8. well time for a minor update again, i have all my materials minus electronics in, and its almost time to start making sawdust, but first i have some material to go through here are all the woods, pickups, bridge(and yes it is sitting backwards), etc. as you can see, its mahogany and maple with an ebony fretboard (cant decide which one to use though...) I would just like to also add that rich is the man (fryovanni) the quilt top I got from him is awesome!(as is all the woods you see here!) also my book finally came in, if you dont have it GET IT NOW! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y74/the_f.../updates011.jpg Im still not sure on the inlay, but we will see what develops as I finally start building her!
  9. not a fan of the headstock at all, but overall it is a killer looking guitar wes.
  10. I will post pics of the rest of the woods when i get them in, it shouldnt be much longer, i believe they went out this week, but im using an ebony fretboad (black as night!!)
  11. its a flat top, I may do bevels or I may bind it im just not sure yet I was thinking of a gothic cross from the 11th to 14th though
  12. Here's my question, and this one is directed at wes mainly, you mentioned that there have been several topics on the hot rod's router bit, or alternitives to it my question is any links to said bits?
  13. well I have the said ryobi bandsaw and It works decently for woodworking, though I do plan on upgrading soon, im going to be using it to do work on my ironbird when the time comes, just take your time on it whatever you use, you dont want to ruin a good piece of wood
  14. alright guys, i havent cut any woods out yet but im trying to figure out what kind of inlay I want on this guitar, remember again that its going to have a transparent purple finish with black hardware, the overall look of this guitar is going to be dark as it is, i was thinking of painting the back of the guitar flat black, but after a bunch of thought. i think it would be better to simly have the entire guitar trans purple. what are your opinions?
  15. well I didnt feed it to the WOD, but my cousin on the other hand....we wont go into details, but i will start another 8 eventually.
  16. I have a set of black gotoh tuners that are left handed available to me right now for a very good price, now here is my question, im building a guitar with a reverse pointed headstock (bc rich ironbird) will they work right? I have never heard of left handed tuners as it is.
  17. not a bad v design, kinda like it, keep us updated on your progress!
  18. matt, that impaler is looking great man, keep up the awesome work
  19. wes im very sure about it, i have talked with neal moser as well as a few people who have bought kahlers recently, its not a bad thing that there frames are aluminum now, there still using brass cams and steel rollers(at least the 2315 does) im just used to an all steel kahler, I was not aware that aluminum was a better "tone metal" though perry, thanks for that clarification.
  20. the only thing i dont like about modern kahlers is that they have aluminum frames, not a bad thing, but there not like old kahlers.
  21. the main issue here is mass production, and it requires one major thing, cash, i have no idea where you could go for such an idea but i wish you luck
  22. carvin as well if you want necks or strat bodies
  23. perry i was actually going to chime in on this as well, know some of you guys are awesome builders there is no doubt there, but i would definatly go with somebody who actually owns a shop and has some definate credentials the next time I ever work with anybody (perry is one for sure that i would work with, same thing with jeremy) just carefull with who you deal with.
