  1. I was wondering? Why gauge 8? Can barely feel the press of the strings and the bass notes will sound bad... But if you like it, then fine, Steve Vai uses custom gauge 7's.
  2. doug from www.soulmateguitars.com have some sweet set necks
  3. Nice work Godin. Is the fretboard already radiused? Are you going to sand flush the binding with the fretboard sides? Cos it looks from here that the binding is slightly taller than the fretboard. How did you do those mitres?
  4. Heres where you got that picture: http://www.timtone.com/necks/HSstyles.htm I searched "elmoheadstock.jpg" in google.
  5. I think it kinda makes sense and I know what you're trying to say, but IMHO the Zachary headstock is just plain butt ugly. End of story.
  6. But if you do come around unable to remove the fretboard or something, www.craftsupplies.co.uk in uk is known to be good for their luthier supplies. However, it may be hard to find the pdf luthiery catalogue so you have to scrounge a bit.
  7. Those Lmii dyes are nice, same stuff companies like Mcnaught, and Myka and Suhr etc use. But MAKE SURE, you don't use water based dye with water based lacquer!!! Thats what happened to my last project! It was sweet, then ended up with mineral streaks from running dye with KTM-9. Still looks ok though.
  8. I was wondering whether you could actually get hardware from original hardware from Gotoh or Schaller or companies like that etc. Because I have found this: http://www.hosco.co.jp/HOSCO_ENGLISH/Pages/Gotoh.html And they have way more new hardware than I have seen on the market, e.g. the Warmoth truss side adjust system and a new series of Wilkinson tremolos that haven't been released to the big companies. If you just click on some of the links on their page, you'll see a much larger variety of hardware. I was wondering, is it possible to directly order from them, or is there some contract, or bulk buying method? Because I thought it would be cheaper...
  9. IMO I don't get a zachary can get interest, I mean, the tech and research is great, but the shape? the headstock? its baaaadd! SO ugly! But yet he still inspires me like the way he designs his own pickups etc. Do you think he is quite well-off considering the no. of guitars he's sold?
  10. Oh, humbucker emulation? I thought it was a noise reduction system the keep hum down from noisy single coils.
  11. Couldn't you just use green colourtone and mix with the lacquer?
  12. I didn't know they were new? MY friend has a button like that on his strat and its at least 3 yrs old??? Am I missing something?
  13. THe pacifica 312 in trans green. I have it, and kick any 112, but to be frank, any pacifica crushes the standard beginner's strat. Dont' believe me? Then check out these clips with a pacifica 112! Yer, the guys at Tech21 appartently love it. Not bothered to link all trax though... http://www.tech21nyc.com/sounds/TM10.mp3 http://www.tech21nyc.com/sounds/gt2_sounds/gt2cali.mp3 http://www.tech21nyc.com/sounds/gt2_sounds/Gt2brit.mp3 http://www.tech21nyc.com/sounds/gt2_sounds/gt2tweed.mp3 http://www.tech21nyc.com/sounds/triac_sounds/TRIAC-Blues.mp3 http://www.tech21nyc.com/sounds/triac_sounds/TRIAC-Rock.mp3
  14. Nice job, not a big fan of the colours, but they do seem to be applied quite well. You used House Of Kolor paints right? How did an automobile paint work on this guitar? And since car lacquers dry quickly, I wondered if you used the same stuff? Erm...is it polyurethane or acrylic lacquer... btw, I like the breedlove look-a-like headstock
  15. Btw, you can't be Mr.Taco lol....I think Arnold Schwarzenegger took that place...don't get it? watch this until the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whGVaLoIvkw&search=impression But I do like Milk-dud, at first, When someone said milk-duds, I think of the sweet, but now I think of your wengemachine...
  16. I only recommended the brand cos I have several friends wielding those axes. And I didn't say its as good, but close to the PRS richness and lp/strat typa sound. If you look at the link of the production, then you'll know that the guitars are all handmade. lol...I think you need to do the same thing the other members told me to do this week...."calm down"!
  17. I'd rather have a real Zemaitis before i'd jump to a xaviere. And btw, crafty: What do you know about them? Sure they have crap english, but yet don't judge the company by its cover/website. Besides, their tops are from US anyways(dissing ur own country ). They make almost as nice stuff as PRS and are not to be considered as a cheap replica manufacturer, each worker is talented and you won't see any CNC's in this place, and for around 600 US I think its a steal. Check this link out to see whether its junk... http://www.guitarandpickup.com/index.php?l...d=77139&Ntype=4 Don't tell me that this is "absolute garbage" right:?
  18. Why not try the wilkinson tremolo? Apparently you can still get some good stuff out of a wilkinson and yet the only modification is to patch up the 6 trem holes for the 2 that a wilkinson uses. The nut of back cavity will not need a major make over... Btw, are you going to get this? http://store.guitarfetish.com/fatsthupiwhm.html Cos a perloid looks nice and matches the strat yet it has 2 holes for pots so you can have volume and a bridge tone push/push as you requested.
  19. Guitarfetish has a gold perloid pickguard if interested, and their pickups ain't half bad seeing from reviews.
  20. Yep, I think the telecaster was a first attempt someone did on a bandsaw..forgot
  21. No more milk-duds, shame...I think someone really needs to build a hershy bar, or even better, some gummy bears!
  22. Mickguard, you're starting to sound from all your posts, that you love pickguards more than women? You married? If so, don't divorce and remarry to 3-ply. lol. Repaying from last time.
  23. When you come around to getting enough cash, then a bandsaw may be a good investment. However, if you don't plan to build after this, then stick to the jigsaw.
  24. Or you can leave them as it is. Might not bring out 100% of the ideal output volume, but I think its fine as it is.
