  1. also what diferent clamps which are needed throughout the building process?
  2. Hi ive been going through the neck making tutorial and i want to replace the fretboards on my existing guitars, and the only tool i havent understood is the angle finder, i cant find it anywhere and is there any similar tool or ruler for this purpose and what are the various ways of slotting before sawing, so i can decide which tools to get and what method to practice. thanks.
  3. Would have bin ausumn with 31/36 frets. But that doesnt make it any less cooler and original.
  4. umm i have a question.. if a floating trem is in working condition and workds ideally.. does it mean that if i put my finger behnid the locking nut and do a dive with my whammy bar, that the string behind the nut wont move or i wont feel it move as my finger will be placed on them ? or will the strings move and the tuning still stay, do the locks actually even work THAT good that they dont allow any string movage behind the nuts.
  5. did you see the six string too? witht the DEEP cut.. for upper fret access? EDIT: the sevens contoured from the front and cut from the back ..ALSO..is it possible to convert a normal bolt on to an AANJ-ish type contoured heel, and can i have the current neck which i have fit that neck pocket after modifying it?
  6. so the contours just for looks eh? do you think the guitarll look stupid without the contour?
  7. What would i call this? a contoured heel is an AANJ, right? thatts the term, and like ibanez rgs the lower horn is contoured, but what is the additional contour called which is there for shredding around on the higher frets...on Rusty Cooleys Guitar, one of my fav shredders, hes not contoured the body/ horn next to the 24th fret but hes cut it all the way hes just chopped off that portion and then hes contoured it.. .. im confused! here are some links.. www.rustycooley.com on his website i am talking about the custom jackson on the equipment page on his website..here are direct links... http://www.rustycooley.com/equipment.html Man there is so much room for shredding up high! do you think its pssible for me to do tht on this.. (I couldnt post the link to the picture! view the link below..) heres the link to a page with thumbs of more pictures of the body.. http://www.geocities.com/bombershredder/kudos.html itll be ausumn to have that on a guitar eh? EDIT: id like to add ive seen guitars with contoured heels/ contoured horns/ contoured body between heel and horn ..But theyre nothing comp to this,, and the only reason im doing this is because he starts of the art of alt picking by picking descending fives in e minor tstarting on 24th fret and ending on the open e..by descending 5s i mean..24-22-20-22-24..five notes pikced and then the next patternascend like 19-20-22-20-19..and he just continues that up the fretboard..and he does it so fast and fluently that he just pops the open e string after going through the shapesand its one,, not diff ffives strungt together but its one ..anyway my point is that when hes playing i can just see how much room he has his whole fretboarrd is open around the 24th and i tried iton my rg and on small stretches..like 20-22-24 the lower part of my hand hits the body and when i stretch out the back of my hand hits the horn, so thats why i wanna contour that, and its brilliant, i had an argument with a friend who said its a challenge to play without the contour.. BLAH BLAH(youre comf at the 1st fret why not the 24th, in my opinion every guitar should have this) dont agree i want the contour itll work not only for this lick but other licks as well...likea 3 octave run, in e or wtvr, and also itll work wonders with a 31 fret guitar(neck thru)..thats another reason i love the last 8 string on the conklin bizzare 8 gallery page,, the fanned fret 3 octave whacky eight, its a crazy guitar with an ausumn shape and with a ittle adjustment itll be superb, sadly they charge a good 5500$ for that guitar. so if this is possible im gonna experiment and do this and practice for building my shred machine.. . help me out guys!
  8. I'm gonna delay my project for now, gonna read and get books and even some videos.
  9. Thanks guys i'll get down to making a thread in the progress section. cya there!
  10. Thanks RGGR, fryovanni, and idch. I will want to make it all by myself, so i'll buy the wood and not the sets. Also i live in India and not many people here build guitars, there are only a few, and i have no experience and very little eknowledge concerning building and wood selection. I'm sure there are a ton of woods out here and all the tools are available and i can order reading material and videos adn experiment a bit. Right now i have a guitar which is dismantled and the body has been sanded. I had this fender squire stagemaster series guitar and i rented a palm sander for a day and with the help of the tutorial i sanded the body but for the sides i had to mix some paint remover and paint thinner and then scrape of the paint. Now i am interested in gaining some experience with this guitar and right now i wanna contour the heel into an aanj-ish idea with a deep contoured horn or a contour from the heel into the body and all the way to the horn. If you visit rusty cooleys website www.rsutycooley.com, and go to his equipment page you will see exactly what i am talking about on his jackson custom 7 string. I have his dvd , the art of picking and he does alot of stuff on the high frets and when i see the video the upper frets on the board are so free and i tried holding them on my rg2120xtb but i couldnt and when i tried stretching my hand the back of my hand hits the horn otherwise on small stretches/patterms like 20-22-24, the bottom of my hand hits the curve of the body leading into the horn. If i made a page on geocities with some pictures and talked about it here...actually i have gone through the tutorials but i have alot of other questions which may or may not have been answered there, so i really wanna do this project and make my existing guitar even cooler. so if i could discuss this with you guys and plan it out and let my parents and myself! know exactly what i have to dom then i can see how much its going to cost and actually do it. I have a small room on the topmost floor of my house where i can setup a small workshop and my parents are all for it as long as i have everything planned and i know what im doing. i was thinking ith this guitar and my fender star type copy with jacksonish headstock i could gain experience learn and stuff and go on to making my own from scratch. I only have two doubts, i have no-one to show me or teach me how to use the tools, i can follow the instructions but i am still a bit unsure about my plans and ideas andit pisses me off because i cant do anything about it cause theres NOONE here in india to teach me. No schools nothing. All ive found is this website. also i dont know what a router is and i kniow you can cut the cavities with it but how it works what it actually is etc..and also ive been through the tutorials but i hvnt been able to figure out how a truss rod works. i can understand why its there and stuff but what makes the guitar bend a certain way by moving the truss rod clockwise and anticlockwise. If you guys could help me out by giving me all the links you have for readin and help answer some questions and basically point things out for me i could get started and know more and enjoy this also. let me know if you guys have the time and patience then ill make the geocities. ALSO the body is kinda pieced together i think the wings were cut for a neckthrough and then it was pieced together for a bolt on. ALSO i dont know whta the body wood is. Im completely lost, with pictures! thanks, and if ive typed too much, or posted this in the worng area spare me cause thisis prob my 2nd 3rd post.
  11. Hi, i am interested in building my neckthru 7 V. Anyhow, what i dont understand is why the body blanks which are for sale at stewmac and warmoth are glued. could someone please help me out. thanks alot.
  12. Basically MUTING TECHNIQUE is VERY Improtant and all you have to understand is that all the downstroked/the sweep, is actually ONE(one motion, your pick sweeps or pushes into the next string with the muting technique muting the previous string you played) About muting technique.... right hand mutes the strings you played and left hand mutes the strings you are going to play and you pick plays the string you havent muted.this is when sweeping down when sweeping back up its the oppositte. the left hand mutes the strings you played and well the right hand dances. take up any two string sweep practice that forward backward and you can advance. Try this e-------15---19- b----17---------17 g-16---------------16 three down three up. do it with a major 7th arp(the a6th fret on the g string becomes a 17, thus you now have a two string bar) it sounds nice! use a dimini arp and the shape coming back will be a mirror image..so youre doing 1-3-4's, OR 4-3-1's on differnt string groups on the highe b nd g. good for people starting out with sweep. also visit www.francescofareri.com and rustycooley.com the exercise above aint mine, its cooleys. enjoy!
