  1. man that sucks! But on the bright side the guitar seems to have been spared haha. Where did u get the stains? Are they colour tone stains? By the way the colour is sick! It's a nice deep blood red.
  2. what brand of nirtro? and what do u think of minwax poly?
  3. Thx yea i was thinking of pittching the binding idea ( meh it cost me like 4 bucks big woop haha). My friend just finnished off paining his guitar with the auto paints from Canadian tire the result was ok but nothing spectacular. But its worth a shot if i cant find an auto shop to do it for me or a student down at SAIT or ACAD ( alberta college of art and design) to paint it.
  4. That is a sweet place I was down there this summer again(I go every year or 2). hats off to you man that bass is just sweet.
  5. Just to clear somethings up, the lower horn will have a deep bevel on it but i havent gotten around to carving it out yet. The upper horn may as well but i havent decided if that will look weird or not. As for the fretboard, I got this one from stewmac because finding good ebony in calgary is kinda difficult. So there is about an inch of excess ebony on the end of the fret board. I was thinking of carving out a cool design out of the end bit. If this guitar turns out well i have enough wood lying around to turn out a 7 string in no time! Which was my first plan haha. I like the dark gun metal idea but i have very low selection of paint seeing as i will be doing it all by spray can, so if any one from canada knows where i can get some gun metal paint or knows someone who can lay down the colour for me ( i will pay for the service) that would be great. I have no idea where the strap buttons are going to go! I realized this after I cut out the design! But I was looking at some flying V's and i may just but it on the back or something. Ill fiqure that out once i have it all ready for setup and i can play with where they fit best. And for the inlay i think barbwire is a good idea but a bit to cliche. What do you think about old norse runes as fretmarkers or just a saying on the 12th fret? Also i got some white binding for the headstock and neck... do you guys think i should use it ?? Thanks alot for the replys! If METALMATT approves i think im doing somthing right haha.
  6. YES! thats exactly what you should do!
  7. Im at school at the moment ill take more pictures and flip them tonite if i have time. Thx for all the great comments guys!
  8. I would vote a nice quilt dyed dark blood red or deep blue with black back and sides, and have the black fade into the fiqure. That would be killer in my mind. You could also do the same thing but with flamed maple.
  9. Hes canadian of course he has good taste... lol
  10. Love that finnish man! The body shape is great as well. I think I may just have to make a bass now...
  11. I finnaly have taken the time to post some pictures of my guitar while ive been working on it. Specs: The guitar has honduran mahogany sides eastern hard rock maple neck and ebony fret board. Progress: The fret board is just taped down for now, and the sides of the guitar are not attached so i can work on them easily. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06819.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06818.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06817.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06820.jpg ^ This is just a picture of the upper wing profile. If anyone has any sugesstions on what type of inlay I should do or the type of bridge is hould use that would be great.I was thinking about doing some runic writting on the fretboard in pearl or something to that effect. And maybe using a TOM bridge string thru. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff
  12. i have made guitars before! when i say at the same time its more in the sense of getting one finnished and ready for paint, then while doing the paint job on that one, work on the next. Personnaly painting isnt the funnest thing for me so i like some thing to do during it. and seeing as i will have all my templates and everything all ready it will be a little less work.
  13. Thx Matt but really before i had even seen the leviathan i was thinking about a design like it but the leviathan gave me that push to put it on paper. I have decided for one of them to be pure black and another I will do something crazy with haha. If LGM has a problem with the shape being to similar then I will change my design... but seeing as im only making these two guitars for myself i dont see a major problem with it. wood pictures comming soon... (stupid exam week is slowing me down)
  14. Thats alot of reply's in only half a day! Thank you for all you input guys! Well i was down at my local hardwood store and picked up some eastern hardsap for the neck thru and some honduran mahogany for the wings. I think ill just paint this one black and maybe do something with the edges. I got enough maple to make 3-4 neck thru's ( had to buy a 76 inch peice haha). So i think i may have to make two of these guitars at one time! Ill post some pics of the wood later for all of you to see.
  15. Could some people please comment on the type of finnish i should go for? Im thinking of going out to get the wood today and id like to know if i should pick up some flamed maple for a sun burst or just stick with going pure black? opinions??
  16. man i like the idea for some reason haha. Are you going to use a photo under the clear coat to get that forest picture?
  17. Yea it kinda does.. I didnt notice that till now heh. any suggestions on wood choices or the 2 finish options?
  18. Wow, i i dont think i have seen your "buzz saw" drawing. Have it posted anywhere by anychance?
  19. HAHA thx man! I cant take total credit LGM's guitars kinda inspired me. Hopefully it isnt to similar for him to get mad.
  20. Im about to start my first guitar of this year and have some ideas on what ill be doing some input would be appreciated. Ok so far i have drawn out an idea for the body shape and such, but ill list off parts and materials first: - Black tunners - wilconsin bridge (trem) - 3 pickups (havent decided which ones) - neck thru maple neck - mahogany body - possible flamed maple top (if i decide to do a sunburst of sorts) - graphtech nut - thorned vine inlay on fretboard (abalone, peal) - wide medium fret wire - black finnish ---------------------- Well i plan on going out to get wood in the next few days. I would like some suggestions before I head out to grab the wood. Hopefully not everyone hates it haha . Its still a rough drawing and i had to work with it so u can see the drawing on the paper. thx for ur time guys
  21. I love the way you did that carve it looks very nice. Good job on the guitar man!
  22. After reading all of this i must say man you are one of the niceist people, that kid must think of you as god. I Think you have earned respect from all of us (even tho most of us already did respect you, but this puts you over the top). It very nice to see people like you doing great things for others! And about the guitar i love the finnish and the inlay is cartoonish but i think it makes the guitar fun! You are one of the niceist people i have seen
  23. Thx C. Lavin! That helps a lot. I take design studies at my school (its like drafting but more art involved) so that should be the perfect opportunity to make some inlay designs. I’m thinking of making some boxes as presents for family members as my first projects. So I should get lots of practice without throwing money down the drain. I have a few questions: 1) Is it easy to work with wood as an inlaying material like curly maple and lace wood est. (I’m talking about a replacement for pearl, and I know this is a stupid question) Is there any thing different in the process of cutting or gluing? 2) What do you mean by "plane your cuts" do you mean like file the edges for a perfect match, or what? 3) And last but not least how long have you been doing inlay work? Thx for all your help recently
