  1. Which finish do you plan for this one?... wenge is the hell to get the pores filled.
  2. Well, that one was done quickly, great job!... I don't know why, but my necks take some weeks to look like a neck.
  3. Sorry guys, if you consider that your marriage is in a risk because of the pictures, just tell me, I have no problem removing them.
  4. I wanted to do it cool, with wooden walls, a door and so on, but I finally put a curtain made with some cheap carpet (?)... ^^ it works very well, although I have to use the vacuum after every step. It's also quite warm inside so maybe I should build in winter, cause this summer is gonna be the hell in there. Let`s see. I didn't want to show it before because it looks awful, but since you asked... proudly present my working corner:
  5. Thanks for translation, I knew the term but I couldn't remember... The biggest deal is against the laziness after some winter months of inactivity, but slowly I'm getting the grips again. I had some spare time this week so I could assemble the core of the neck. The same wood combination as the last build, Rock maple, at the center, is always a lil bit darker than the flamed one on the sides. Then two mahogany veneers to give it some accent lines. It still needs more sanding, but I feel sooo lazy...
  6. Congratulations for your first build. If you feel you've enjoyed this travel, you should try to make your own neck next time, cause that's the funny part.
  7. Thanks!... BTW I got the idea from your tutorial... ^^ but I prefer this method to the other one, I think is more accurate. It also needs less space. The melamine also reduces the grip, which makes everything easier to move.
  8. I finally bought a small band-sander (?) which accelerates the process a little bit. Sorry for stupid update, I spent most of the time preparing the things I need. Since I have to reduce the thickness of the body blank, I had to upgrade the router planner. I've increased the height to 48 mm and also increased the width to fit the body, the tops and the veneers. Also made a new "upper part" which works like a charm.
  9. The neck has a specific scale and twenty some frets, no way to get it longer or shorter... ^^
  10. I love your toys... and that mini CNC has a lot of possibilities.
  11. Thanks guys, I just got envy while seeing you working... I would like to tell something about the project, but sincerely I don't know where to start... my last build was a lil bit disappointing and I'm just trying to improve those details I'm not happy with. The body contour and the carving are going to be different this time, also there will be some modifications regarding to neck/fretboard dimensions... just some millimeters more here and there. I really wanted to start building an nice jazz guitar, kinda semihollow, archtop, whatever... but I couldn't achieve any good design so far, so I gave up and try this one... maybe I change my mind in the next days and the design will be completely different. You never know. In order to save some money in shipping, I bought most of the things in the same place, so I got some pickups randomly. This time I will try some Tonerider Rebel-90, kinda humbucker sized P90s... I never tried a P90 so this makes easier to replace in case they don't appeal to me. I've heard some videos in youtube and they sound decently... let's see. There was an incident in the delivery, one of the pieces of the rosewood top had a small crack in the side... so I requested another top to the provider. I don't have to send back the broken one, so now I have two tops. The "broken" one still can be used I think... ^^ so I will try to make a sandwich rosewood-mahogany-rosewood and make some cool lines with the carving. Now I'm just trying to have some spare time to prepare all the boards... I still couldn't recover from the last year sanding session, this gonna be the hell.
  12. Hi there, guitar building season is open. I was preparing the mini-workshop and bought all the woods, tools and parts I need for this project. This time I've spent a bit more money and got some decent stuff. Let's put everything together. This is a rough draft: And this is the good stuff. Madagascar Rosewood top, fingerboard and headstock. Swamp ash body with mahogany veneers. Rock and flamed maple for the neck. I just need to find some time to work on it, hope it doesn't get too long. Stay tuned!
  13. Better if that happens at this stage than later... I never trusted myself doing scarf joints, I see that part an unnecessary weak point in a guitar.
  14. Lots of entries this month, I love that... finally voted for Mikagi's one, my eyes just popped out when I saw it. Congratulations to the other participants as well.
  15. In my last build I explain my way of doing some of them, like electronics and pickups. For the contour body and headstock, I found that making them in two passes is much easier. I suggest to use first a thin board (5/6 mm), which is easier to sand and control. Then, once you have the prototype, you can use it to route the final one in a thicker board (10/16 mm).
  16. I'd do by hand, although is not as easy as it looks at first sight... you're gonna sweat. Nice template concept, but I'm not sure if I could get a template totally parallel by hand... by that way, the top edge of the bevel would depend a lot on the curve in the template... I think I'd trust more in my eyes while carving myself.
  17. I discovered them because the article you have here in the site, really nice shop... I bought some tools and thingees there last week! I found their veneers very interesting and relatively cheap. Shame I already ordered at Madinter before having a look at it, cause they have very nice woods, and ready to use.
  18. Sorry, that face looks like I said something stupid, but I would not even think on buying just one board online. We were talking about the price of articles, delivery hell deserves its own topic. However, there are shops where you can't order less than 200€, like tonewood.es, so spending more than 250 in order to avoid paying for the delivery is not that crazy IMO.
  19. Shipping is free for orders more than 250€. Buying in a bulk is another way of saving money... ^^
  20. Some woods and parts are highly overpriced sometimes... for instance, an ebony fretboard is much more expensive in USA than in Europe, due to import duties and other legal stuff. A 3rd grade ebony fretboard cost less than 4€ here: http://www.madinter.com/wood/fingerboards/third-b-guitar-ebony-fingerboard.html while you have to pay 25€ for the same stuff here: http://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Bodies_and_Necks_and_Wood/Electric_Guitar_Bodies_and_Necks_and_Wood/Unslotted_Fingerboard_for_Guitar.html?pref_currency=E I remember my mom going to the market in the other corner of the city just to save some cents... I kinda do the same, cause my budget is usually very limited, so I spend a lot of time looking for some bargains before making any build. Although this time I got crazy and spent about 800€ in goodies... ^^ woods, parts and tools. No misery this time.
  21. Maybe you didn't, cause I haven't started yet, but at least I'm gonna sleep better. I will start a build soon and I was worried about how to glue a top with no gaps, and found that trick with the slightly curved sticks you wrote in another post just brilliant.
  22. Making a perfect replica of a Gibson would be a step backwards I guess... sorry but we're in 2016. Looks very nice so far, clean and professional. I wish I had access to big machinery and a proper workshop. I'm really interested to see you working (no offense) and love your tricks, please don't hesitate to show us more... you are not aware of it but you saved my ass today.
  23. Well, those woods are really expensive, but they are so cool,,, Madinter (http://www.madinter.com/) has some decent prices and serves all over Europe, but not even close to those wonderful AAAAA flamed maple tops.
