  1. Fantastic and clean work, congratulations!
  2. Well, looking at this picture... it seems like it is possible.
  3. That finish is only possible with ash, I fear...
  4. That router looks pretty nice. All you need to make a guitar.
  5. Some bridges come with an optional baseplate like the one you've made, very nice...
  6. Well, it was not a rule but an advice... but yes, if you want to make guitars, you'll need a lot of patience. I totally understand you, cause it was the same for me at the beginning. After some builds and some mistakes, you're gonna change your mind. If you plan carefully your builds, you can leave some tasks to do in those "awaiting" stages. Having two builds running at the same time helps too.
  7. I first carve the neck, then let the whole thing stabilize for a couple of weeks before giving radius to the fretboard... and most of the times I have to re-flat the fretboard before radius it, because the neck tends to bow after carving. The weather can affect too, I agree that having a flat back surface to work on the fretboard is nice, but having a flat fretboard to work in the back side is nicer. ^^
  8. I've tried here with safari and chrome, everything works... try to update the browser. BTW Chrome runs much better than safari, at least for me.
  9. You have to click where it says "Reply to this topic..." but if it doesn't work, try to quote someone, it opens automatically the WYSIWYG editor...
  10. Works fine here from my new iphone 4... Best post ever btw, i thought for a while that you were kidnapped ^^
  11. I think it's time to sand again...
  12. I ran with the same problem in my last build... what I did was taking a remain from the body cut and drill the holes there with the press drill, then I've used that as a guide to make the final holes with a common drill... not sure if I've explained well. Anyway, it worked very well, at least here.
  13. If you've pulled the paint off, it means that the paint didn't stick on the wood and/or it makes reaction with the nitro... please don't blame the brushing technique... ^^ Just kidding, what I mean is that you can have the same problems using spray... try to use a good paint for the base coat, maybe one which is not water based?
  14. Thanks! BTW, I wouldn't put any lacquer on that cool fretboard... I think is an unnecessary mess.
  15. I've brushed a fretboard with nitro some years ago, but it was before installing the frets. You can remove the lacquer from the frets afterwards, with steel wool (?) I don't know the name in english...
  16. I love those mini pups!... impressive!
  17. Those real tops look way cooler than the veneers, specially the ziricote one. I whish I could get a piece of that wood to make something, I think is stunning.
  18. I would make both horns in the same style, either rounded or pointy... This reminds my first try messing with guitars, but this is going much better than mine, I really fucked up that ibanez.
  19. Actually, I think the fact of having a different radius in the crown is not a problem at all, as long as you can adjust the height of the saddles individually... anyway, this is one of those things you have in front of your nose and you don't see them. First build?... Seriously?... I don't believe it.
  20. Well, you got me thinking... live and learn, I never would be able to figure out by myself! I had to make a drawing to calculate the amount of material you remove from the edge. For a radius of 16", a 2mm fret gets exactly 16.1575" radius in the crown. A 16" radius beam will remove exactly 0.0007" more material in the fret end (0,017mm or a pussy hair in the metric system)... something to consider, although I could no reach that level of precision even doing it well. (I forgot to say that the width of the fretboard in the calculation was 55 mm)
  21. I like these builds, clean curves...
  22. You can also mask all the cavities, finish with whatever finish you want and then proceed with electronics...
