  1. The top glue join came out perfect, best one yet; thank you Mr. Jointer
  2. While waiting on the finish to get straightened out on my SS build, I needed something else to work on... So far it's a Rosewood body, Flame Maple top, Rosewood, Flame Maple neck with a Hipshot bridge and 3x3 tuners... Anyone else see Bigfoot Here's the glue sides all ready to get glued... And here's a pic of all my clamps for the police
  3. I remember getting mine--same one you got I bet--and feeling the same way. Makes sawdust fast doesn't it? SR Oh man I love it! Planed the back and top of the body after resawing in about 10 mins (I'm still a noob with it) and the fretboard and top of the neck for my Tele in 5 mins when it would have taken me a good 1-2 hours of sanding It even did a great job on the flamed maple top with no tear out!
  4. That's a mess of beautiful guitars RAD, but that last one looks like something real special What kind of oil are you using for a finish on those?
  5. Thanks! I got it for my B-day from my dad. He said he got it from a cabinet shop he used to work for...
  6. Thanks guys! I'm waiting on laquer to dry at this point, not much going on. Started a new build, a Rosewood necked, Rosewood bodied, Maple top TelePaul...gluing pieces right now I just bought a small 6 1/8" Porter Cable benchtop jointer today... I've never used a jointer before and I love this thing
  7. So much awesomeness there Scott! I agree with you on the carve... I like the rounded carve look as well as comfort... Man that top is going to be crazy...
  8. Thanks Scott... I'm pretty happy with it. Spent a lot of time playing it last night and she's a keeper. Can't really believe how well the neck came out for a first time build. The action is right where I like it at 2mm @ the 24th on the B and 1.8mm on the high E with no buzzing at all. Hell it even intonated right Thanks! I really loved the darker purple, should have just slapped some Danish Oil on at that point. But I think it looks awesome natural too so it all worked out
  9. I burned through the clear coat on my final buffing run and decided to just strip it... all the way Decided to leave it natural and do a Danish oil finish...Got some time to work on her today and I'm finally done! I wasn't sure about leaving the headstock Mahogany, but I really like it. It has a sort of yin and yang feel opposite of the body...
  10. Glued the neck in last night so I thought I'd do a mockup before I start the finish...
  11. I think I will be using it from now on... I'll be trying it out next on a fabric top RG I just cleared with 2K urethane
  12. Thanks guys! Put some very small inlay dots in and finished up the fret work today. It's just about time to glue the neck up.... I used Micro mesh on the frets for the first time (1500 to 12000) and I really like how they came out...
  13. Ohhh man that clear coat is sweet... what type are you using? I'm a sucker for flamed maple, that neck is gourgeous
  14. I really like the carves/curves of your guitars, they just look lethal. The heel shaping on your SS's is perfect, unfettered access with a natural sweeping look to it... Also, having owned a Rottweiler with a stubby nub of a tail... I can see the dog's arse in the ink blot too
  15. Whoa WH your inlay work is tight, love that logo... I really dig the simple carve on the one body, it just fits that body style perfectly. Awesome work man!
  16. Decided on doing a deep radius around the body... Now I just need to drill for a mini switch and the output jack and the body will be ready for finishing
  17. Very good... now I get it. Thanks for the explaination
  18. I picked up some Shuretape indoor/outdoor doublesided carpet tape from Lowes and it works great, not too pricey either...
  19. Always look forward to these weekend updates man! Looking great and thanks for the explanations for us noobs I don't really understand how the pin is used to line up the string through holes. Do you have a link to RAD's method?
  20. Thanks guys, I think you're right. The piece of spalted maple was sliced off of the wood I used for the top and I think I have enough for a control cavity cover. Thanks for the idea Scott! I did get the belly carve done and the control cavity routed, but I'm still debating a carve for the top. I might do just a slight carve around the outside to break up the top a bit and keep the top from digging into my arm playing...
  21. Thanks for the suggestions guys... I did some testing on an offcut with Danish oil and I really like it. So it's either Danish oil and wax or 2k poly
  22. Looking like a great start Scott... That top looks incredible bare, any idea on the finish yet?
  23. Here it is today with the fretboard slotted, glued on, and radiused. Routed for pickups and the neck pocket. Shaped the neck and headstock and fit the heel to the neck pocket... I made the neck a little thinner this time 18mm @ 1st fret, 20mm @ 12th with a 56mm heel
  24. Got a good start on this SS already. Some of the settled details: 1/2" Thick Maple Top, Mahogany Body Birdseye Maple/Walnut/Mahogany Neck w/ Splated Maple Headstock cap Bubinga fretboard Reverse Hipshot locking tuners Brass bridge plate with Hipshot stainless saddles Zebra Dimarzio Breed bridge and Fred neck pickups I'm not sure about the finish yet... I'm kind of over the whole shiny glassy finishes, but I'm not sure what else would look nice with this top
  25. Looking beautiful man... I feel you on the hand thickness sanding, my favorite part of a build
