  1. I radiused my fretboard and the ebony has tinted the mahogany a bit. I'm sure I can keep sanding until it comes out. The neck still needs some final shaping anyway. I was just curious if there is a good way to get it off if say I did'nt have sanding to do? I think I'll tape it off next time.
  2. Great, I reduced them and now they're all over.
  3. pic 2 pic 3 pic 4 [Rick500: Have to keep it at one pic per post. It's looking great though!]
  4. I just made one this way. I made a jig and cut alot of pine with it before I felt comfortable enough to cut the mahogany. It wasnt very easy to do with a small Delta table saw I can tell you that. One book I have explained both ways also. They had a concern about the way that puts the joint under the fretboard, saying it could cause a high spot on the fretboard.
  5. Thanks, I had a feeling that 'd be the case.
  6. This is a little like a recent post but my question is how well will ebony go through a planer? Will it chatter because it's a hard wood? I didnt have great results running flamed maple through mine, got a little tear out and ended up taking the top to a shop with a drum sander. This is in regard to a fingerboard that I'd like to thin out a little before radius sanding. Thanks.
  7. I dont see the line in the top. Are you sure your not seeing the shadow from the strings? Or maybe you just have really good eyes. Either way it looks pretty cool.
  8. Where you put arrows are supposed to be bump outs also, they're just on the small side. I actually used a template for this, no spindle sander involved. I think the upper edge is an optical illusion. It does look a little off but it really is an equal distance from the body centerline. Well maybe I'll go and re-sand my template. I did use a spindle sander for that.
  9. LMI sells it. My wife bought me their solid body "kit" and it came in it. It should have been a little thicker but I didnt store it properly and the boards warped a little. It's still about 9/16". I dont know how good their price's are but here you go. link
  10. Your probably right about the humps being a little bigger. The cover plate template is 3/16'' wider than the main parts of the cavity though, so I think I'll be ok. I'm all for constructive criticism. What dont you like about the cavity, other than the little nick?
  11. Here's a better pic. There is only one spot on the bottom "bump out" for a screw that has a tiny divet in it. Hey how'd that pic get there? I thought I did it the same as before when just the link showed up.
  12. Thats the plan=more stressin'. We'll see how it goes. I guess if I screw it up too bad I can always run it through the drum sander.
  13. Maybe I missed something. The way I did it there are links in my post to see pics.
  14. Huh, Maybe the pics look funny? The control cavity is actually very clean. What do you see? Yeah, I'm sweatin the thought of finishing it a little.
  15. Here are some pics of my first build. Surprisingly all is going pretty smooth so far(knocks on wood). I dont know how to post pics in with this post. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w79/mikep911/DSCN2609.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w79/mikep911/DSCN2607.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w79/mikep911/DSCN2589.jpg
  16. I've gotten started on my first build and would like to show you guys my progress. I dont know how to post pics on this site. Other sites I hang out on have a insert image buttom and it lets me browse on my pc. I see some guys here use photobucket but others have pics in their posts. How do you put pics right in your post? And yes, I searched using many different words and didnt come up with anything. I'm sure this has been asked several times too.

  18. Ok, I kept serching and it seems that is how it's done. I'll still take any info offered though.
  19. I've done several search's without finding an answer. I guess I could drill a from the stud hole to the electronics cavity but it sounds a little risky. Thats the only way I can figure it's done.
  20. I'm a complete noob so keep that in mind, and this isnt a direct answer to your question. One guitar building book I have says to adjust the saddles out as far as they can go towards the neck, and mount the bridge with the saddles at the scale length measurement. I installed a new bridge on a freinds bass and it worked perfectly. I'd be curious if anyone has an opinion on that method.
  21. Is that tutorial still there? I looked through them all and didnt find it.
  22. Your carve came out nice. Belt sander eh? I'm planning on using an angle grinder with flap disc's. Hope mine turns out that good.
  23. Thanks for the reply. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do right? Thanks for the link also.
