  1. Yes,its true. If the glue wasn`t strong enough,The string tension alone would rip your guitar apart. just make sure you let it dry first!
  2. Thanks LGM, I`m going for it today.I have two band saws and a dozen spare blades in different widths.
  3. Yeah, that`s what I was going to do but I`m making a neck-thru-body guitar and the higher frets will be over the body section of the neck, which is wider than my fret board.(I laminated a wide three piece neck blank to start with)
  4. If your guitar body is in two pieces you can route a channel down the side(distance between pickup cavaties) before you glue them together. Then when you route for the pickups, the passage is right there. If you route your control cavaty before you glue them together, you can punch that hole through with a drill bit also, provided you lay all the pick-up and knob locations out ahead of time.(which you should do anyway.)
  5. Thanks Brian, unfortunately it`s Ebony ... ...and it`s slotted already. I might try gluing it on the neck first, then cut the excess overhang. What do ya think????
  6. My fretboard is slotted already. I plan on going a little wider than finished dimension for sanding. Can I cut the sides(the taper from nut to 24 th fret) on the table saw or should I use the band saw?.....I don`t know if it will tear the wood at the slots?? Maybe masking tape over the board first????
  7. I`m sorry,I forgot to state that I was painting the guitar a solid color.I do plan on clearing over everything, but I want the guitar to be blue.I don`t think I can paint it and then route it because I have to sand the epoxy(from the inlay) and that will ruin the paint...I think??? I was thinking of inlaying the guitar, masking the logo, cut around it with an exacto knife, spraying blue, take off the tape and then clear coat.I just wasn`t sure if that would be the way to do it because some of the lines are pretty thin,I didn`t know if the paint settles well that way around tape. Any suggestions???
  8. I am inlaying my name in abalone in my guitars body. Should I mask over with tape, spray, remove, then clearcoat?

    Johnny Winter

It was at a tattoo convention in the meadowlands just outside of N.Y.C. Yeah he`s not in the best shape, but even at his worst he`s better than most.I`m actually going to meet him next show and he`s going to sign my guitar.
  10. Just wanted to give props to my guitar hero! He`s old school, but he rips it up.
  11. I have a Electra Westone Dynasty if anyone is interested? Looks like a crazy V with wings.I`ve had it twenty years.
  12. Hey all, I am wiring a Single neck/Humbucker bridge set up with one Volume one tone and a 5-way switch. Do I also need to run a wire from the back of the tone pot to the back of the volume? Thanks in advance
  13. I know it`s hit or miss between the two,it`s just I`m going to inlay stars on the fretboard for markers and I want it to go on the better sounding one,but I know I`m just going to have to make them both the best I can and pray for the best.
  14. Well I carved my maple neck-through today. It has a little bit of mahogany along the back of the body section and holding it in my finger tips in various places, tapping it for sound,it sounds rock solid, kind of like a Louisville slugger.I do the same with the mahogany neck-through,and it sings like a chime.Almost a distinct note. Both will have mahogany wings and painted a solid color. I know the Maple neck one should be brighter, but I believe the mahogany wings will change the sound a little, but because of the small body,by the sounds of the story I just told... ...Do you think it will be too trebly or dead sounding? Which would you use and why?.....just curious. I just want to here other peoples ideas/opinions. Thanks in advance
  15. I got my sander from Grizzly Grizzly This company has alot of sanders too for under $500 Harbor Freight
  16. The luthier Bob Benedetto uses Titebond. He leaves about 3/4 " dry in the middle so the glue has a place to go ,otherwise the fret won`t seat fully.
  17. When you fret a note, because of resistance there are small tolerences on the nut and strings as well as when you tune-up. There is a company called Graph-tech that makes a product called "Trem-nut" which lubricates the slots . The tonal qualitys are supposedly excellent also. http://graphtech.bc.ca/default.asp
  18. Looking foward to seeing that stuff Derek!
  19. Amen! This is Project guitar, not Quantity Volume Next Industry Giant .com It might be fun fretting your one and only guitar. Do it how you want, and have fun!
  20. On my 24 pole switch, when I have to solder four of the poles to one lead from my pick-up,can I just lay a jumper wire across four of them,or does it have to have insulation on it?....meaning,do I have to run off four seperate little leads?
  21. My jointer cuts a really smooth surface. Not the best for a strong joint.I remember reading it somewhere,so I sand it lightly then dampen it lightly with water to get the grains to stand a little and when it drys,I glue the surface.I did this on a carved archtop I started a couple of years ago.It gives a good strong joint.
  22. I`m also curious about the humbucker routing.I`m putting a DiMarzio ToneZone(HB) at the bridge and a Virtual Vintage Blues(S) at the neck.
