  1. Very insightful, Russ. Thanks for your input. It's hard to develop a good reputation but easy to damage one. While I can certainly appreciate someone's desire to become a professional builder, it's in one's own best interests to take the time and be sure that you truly have a worthy product to sell. There's also the importance of having some business acumen. If you start selling instruments, you are running a business as well. That means accounting, dealing with both happy and unhappy customers, trying to make a profit etc. For some, these sorts of things can take the joy out of the process of guitar building. Regards, Rob
  2. Welcome! You'll find a bunch of information and a great group of people as well here! There's a wealth of information in past threads so check them out and don't forget the tutorials on the main site page. Regards, Rob
  3. Looking forward to more progress. It's good to see someone building something atypical. Regards, Rob
  4. Hi Mike. Welcome. I'm not familiar with your site or your reference to the TB and SS boards. Would you provide some links, please? Regards, Rob
  5. Very cool. It struck me as a design with good balance in the sitting position. How's the weight of the guitar? And, thanks for the information on the cabinet bolts. You've heard about Zachary's three guitars from a $15 Ikea top? I wonder if that's what he's using in his guitars since they appear very similar. I hadn't thought of them for neck attachment but I like idea.
  6. +1. Like the shape - not the headstock. And, that image should be resized to something more reasonable. It's over 2MB. Regards, Rob
  7. Cool retro feel and the blog looks good too. Regards, Rob
  8. Looks good - I've actually been wondering about that design. You mentioned having drawn it out "freehand"? Do you have any sense of how yours compares in dimensions to the Zachary body? Also, what sort of bolts did you use for the neck? Are they going into inserts or just wood? Regards, Rob
  9. Welcome! Have any builds to share? Regards, Rob
  10. Cool Scott French influenced shape! I'm curious about the cutout at the bottom of the guitar. Did you have a practical reason for that or was it primarily an aesthetic choice? Regards, Rob
  11. There's always this homemade one from Popular Mechanics: Here's the article link: Pin Router Regards, Rob
  12. Here's another approach - Kritz guitars uses what they call Smile Frets for improved intonation - Kritz Inventions. Regards, Rob
  13. I just came across this page that summarizes a bunch of different finishing techniques and approaches - http://www.thewoodshop.20m.com/finishing.htm. It looks like a very handy reference in addition to the various threads seen throughout Project Guitar forum. Regards, Rob
  14. Pfft, if they need sheet music, they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a jazz club. Now, if they were lead sheets, that's a different story... +1. IMPROVISE! Regards, Rob
  15. A little Prince action? Reinventing yourself? Nice. Regards, Rob
  16. +1. Agreed. It sounds like badass=pointy. Flat black all around should do the trick nicely... Regards, Rob
  17. There are a number of sources I found useful and I recently posted this list of guitar building resources to my blog in order to document some of them. Top of the list is picking up at least one book, followed by reading through the tutorials on the main Project Guitar site, followed by this forum. There are lots of other useful resources but these will get you pointed in the right direction and give you plenty of food for thought. Regards, Rob
  18. Thanks! I'm curious how you arrived at the dimensions. I started from a CAD drawing of the Klein Harp guitar which is a bit wider than the standard Klein. Did you start from a photo? Regards, Rob
  19. Very nice work! That's coming along beautifully. Looking forward to its completion. Regards, Rob
  20. Welcome! Looking forward to seeing some of your builds! Regards, Rob
  21. Very cool! Thanks for starting the thread. I've based my first build on the Klein Electric shape as well and its exciting to see others work with the form. How did you come up with your dimensions? Did you scale up an image? Regards, Rob
  22. +1. If its a stage guitar it's one thing but as an everyday guitar? I can't imagine. Regardless, welcome and I wish you success! Regards, Rob
  23. I really think this should be pinned, it's a shame to let all this info get buried. +1. It's a great thread. I'd like to see it readily accessible. Regards, Rob
  24. Here's one - Toone Guitars. BTW - Great to see this thread revived! Regards, Rob
