  1. That is correct. This tool will allow me to make multiple casting if I desire. This is a very accurate way to translate a form into wax.
  2. I am very much making this process up as I go along. I used to work as a pattern/ model maker, so I am familiar with many techniques and materials. Building a guitar, however, is new territory.
  3. Really digging the pickguard, and the relationship it has with the body profile and components. This guitar has a little bit of a Rickenbacker vibe to me
  4. I have the pattern mounted and the parting lines defined. apparently, Plastilina Modeling clay comes vanilla scented -and 24 hours later, my hands still smell like vanilla.
  5. This is great logic! I agree, that since the spacing can be calculated to accommodate for the straightest string pull, I will need to factor in string gauge.
  6. That is what I thought, and why I was leaning towards the bevel. I really like the looks of contrasting materials exposed in a cut-away.
  7. I like the idea of a bevel, it seems like that would provide you with a platform for interesting finish variations if you made multiples. I am really digging the contour of the long horn as well.
  8. Those minor adjustments do refine the shape. I wouldn't have the nerve to pull out the rasps though.
  9. The outer edge of the tuning post and the center of the string are tangent. I didn't even think about factoring in the sting thickness in that regard! It looks like I will need to adjust my numbers slightly. Thanks!
  10. Ziricote +gold hardware, it looks so classic. It is quite a contrast when you compare this one to the pink one. I don't know which one I like better.
  11. Thanks Scott. The spacing doesn't bother me since it is a result of geometry. I had forgotten that I had dimensioned the nut in this manner and didn't understand why my hole locations seemed off. Paul
  12. Thanks! There will be more surprises to come. Paul
  13. What is the typical approach for spacing out the tuning machines? As you can see, my spaced distances are not equal lengths,. This spacing is driven by where the slots will be cut into the nut. Does this seem acceptable, or do people generally dimension the space between the machines equally?
  14. Thanks Norris, I am very much in the same boat. This is completely an experiment that could have either rewarding or disappointing yields. I am hoping that the bronze will increase the sustain by ringing/ vibrating like a bell. I also see the possibility that these properties may produce unwanted noise, or runaway feedback. I really cannot see any way to prove this, however, without going through the expense of building the complete guitar. I am also curios about other aspects of using metal instead of wood, such as: how shielding will be achieved, and how bright the guitar will sound.
  15. Thanks, I was using the idea of how model planes come with all the components attached together by their sprues. If the printer was larger, I wouldn't have to do so much goofing around.
  16. I got my parts solvent bonded together and a coat a primer on the top. There is a little minor body work to do, and then it should be ready to make the silicone tool.
  17. Wow, that is an crazy grain and color. I am not familiar with Ziricote.
  18. Beautiful build! I love the color combinations of the wenge with the paint. The selection of the cream components really top it off.
  19. Very lovely proportions throughout. That is some beautiful wiring- are you twisting the ground wire with a drill, or do you purchase it that way? Paul
  20. I have my parts ready to be bonded together. I am just waiting for the solvent to arrive. Of course, it has been a high of 5 degrees here for the past week, so hopefully the container will arrive without exploding.
  21. Thanks for the observation. I had the feeling in the back of my mind that the markers were bordering on being a little too cute, and visually unnecessary. If i do leave them in place, they will prove to be an obstacle when I start to metal finish the surface since they stand proud. Paul
