  1. i am infact using the reverse wired vol for two independant volumes...is that the cause? if so will sheilding make it better? i checked my grounds w/ the meter, they all check out fine.
  2. lemme clarify my problem, when im touching the strings vol on/off its dead quiet. but, when i let go of the stfings with volume on its quiet but with the volume off it buzzes. i was just wondering if this is normal and will sheilding the cavity fix this? i rewired it making certain there are no ground loops! may i add that there is absolutly no sheilding.
  3. what i did to figure out which Pup he used is i looked at a big pic of hos Dean From Hell. the pup on that is epoxy potted so i just bought the pup that was epoxy potted, i.e. Bill Lawrence USA.
  4. if you want an excuse to play loud get a tube amp
  5. also playing loud (wear earplugs) makes a difference too, the slight feed back will help with the harmonics.
  6. if i may add i want HARSH REALISTIC CRITCISM!!!! i plan to sell guitars eventually and i want to know where i stand. point out all the flaws and how i could improve, id really appreciate it. i would love to hear from all you pro and non pro builders out there, you know who you are. Thank you all for the help and compliments. Sounds metal! well, scince i used Bl XL500's its preety trebly but i have my EQ set so its not ear bleeding. sounds good on gain settings in humbucker mode similar to emgs but more "loose" if you know what i mean. then on cleans in single mode its very twangy on the bridge, i enjoy playing rockabily and blue grass. in the neck its perfect for "ballads" although i dont really use clean when i play metal, its usually semi dirty. when i get over tendonitis ill post sound clips...
  7. well i found out it was just severe tendonitis..i got off lucky . i go to an ocupational/athletic physical theripist on thursday so i think things'll get work out. after i can play again, i plan to get guitar lessons to see if i hold the guitar wrong, play too much, or dont warm up enough, so this doesnt happen again.
  8. i did my wiring an its quiet when the vol is up but when i turn it down it buzzes more. is this because of a ground loop? also i think i should note there is absolutely no sheilding in the cavity. that may be a contributing factor.

  10. Well, i refinished the gutiar because i was very dissatisfied with the water based finish stew mac sells. too soft and doesnt buff out so nice. this time around i used behlens nitro, very nice this time and i learned to take decent pics. i also added some coil taps, a logo, thinned the neck just a touch, and moved the jack fron the lower horn to the top and used a fender style jack. maybe now ill put in for GOTM! Final Specs: 25 1/2" scale 3 pc. maple neck and an alder body Rosewood fretboard w/ 24 jumbo frets Compound radius 10-14 Nitro Finish Asymetrical neck profile Original Floyd Rose Bill Lawrence USA L500XL pups 2 volume, 3-way switch, and coil shunt for both pups recessed strapbuttons (dunlop straplocks) strung with di'adario 9's Body 2 is the actual color, i just thought Body 1 looked cooler. Hardware Body 2 Full Heel Headstock Front Headstock Back Progress pics can be found here Distorted_Frequency
  11. well, its been 3 days and its no better, and last night my hand started swelling up and the ring/pinkie finger stopped moving for a while. hopefully doc can fix me up.
  12. i was at work yeasterday and i took a nap on break, arms folded, head resting on top. well, i woke up and i had pain shooting from the inner side of my left forearm and my pink and ring finger on that hand were numb! that eventually turned in to pain when ever i bend those fingers. now this is what concernes me, thats my fretting hand and now i cannot play guitar. i am going to make an appointment for tommarrow to go to the doctor but i wanted to know if any of you have ever been through this and if it made you play worse after? heres a link for more info cubital tunnel syndrome
  13. ive heard hundreds of different lengths of times to wait, 4 days to 3 months. if it smells its not done, or if you cant dent it with a finger nails its done. im still not sure because i sprayed the last coat two weeks ago i can NOT put a finger nail dent in the paint, but it still smells a little, not like solvent or lacquer, in the cavitys. btw i used behlens from stewmac, i called themand they told me it sould be good to go in two weeks if i followed there schedule.
  14. has a standard set neck, gibson, style lp joint. another thing is i hated all that binding/purfling on the finger board, on the two e strings all you could feel was plastic. this may or may not bother you but i HATED it enough to not want one anymore.
  15. well the reason i stray from the 5 way is i hate the way blade switches look. i prefer toggles... if they made a 4 position toggle id be in business..
  16. is there any way i could use a 3 way toggle for 3 pups? ie: maybe a regular bridge-both-neck then an on/off for the middle?
  17. more progress...(pics later today) i shaped the neck and am getting ready for the cavitys. i also started making a matrhing truss trod cover out of flame maple, i was thinking of inlay something on it. but, im not sure if im ready to try to inlay maple. hopefully saturday i will have my nitro, stain, and gold tuners. i got lemon yellow and green so im gonna give this thing a dime slime burst deal. all i have left to buy is the electronics. im thinking on going with a seymour duncan JB and some singles that'll give me that yngwie neck lead tone. as for the electronics go i think im gonna try three individual switches for each pup and a simple vol. and tone. any suggestions for the two singles?
  18. also theres some with lines/ridges on the sole and some that are flat. which would yall recommend?
  19. i was checking ouy ebay for a no.5 jack plane and i came across several for a decent price, but im not sure what to look for. there was a no.5 stanley from WWI era for under $50, but, is this a good one?
  20. thats part of the problem, when you go into a store and you know more about the products than the employees do, thats a load of poo. it makes me angry because all the kids starting out will be misinformed and possably buy something they will not be happy with. once i was in there helping my friend choose/buy a guitar, he really was diggin a jackson dinky w/ the sustainer. but, it was out of tune and the screws on the floyd were already maxed out. i asked for a allen so i could inlock the nut to tune it and the guy said "you tune it with that" and pointed at the string lock at the nut. im not kidding. another time i came in and asked for a 500k potentiometer, the guy at the parts desk had no clue, he even searched in the computer and still couldnt figure it out. i had to point it out on the wall. also on a seperate occation i wanted to but a holy grail reverb so i decided to try it out, the guy got it all setup but he had the reverb in front of the amp not in the loop. so i ask him arent time based effects such as reverb and delay supposed to be in the effects loop and he goes "whats an effects loop?" i got tons more bad experences. i still go tho because there are 1 or 2 guys that know the products and what not. just seems theyre there less and less now a days.
  21. im a shred kinda guy so heres my list, randomly ordered: Eddie Van Halen Paul Gilbert Bruce Bolliet Jason Becker Mary Friedman Yngwie Malmsteen Buckethead Ron Thal Guthrie Govan Dave Mustaine Muhammad Suicmez Billy Sheehan and for some reason i really dig brian stezer and chet atkins
  22. i have some behlens nitro and thinner i got from stew mac and i was wondering if its nessecary to thin it to a 1:1 ratio. it ses that on the thinner but not on the nitro. im wondering because i did this and it does not coat very well its too thin, even thinner than the waterbased stuff from stew mac.
