  1. up all the way? as in 10? never. like i said 6-7 is the usual.
  2. i set that eq while playing with the band not by my self.
  3. no, i have brought it to a tech about 8 months ago and had the powertubes changed, they said nothis was wrong with it. also it was just as quiet before and after i brought it to get the tubes changed. ive tried my head through his cab and its still just as quiet. yes i wear ear protection, always have. i use those cool earplugs that look like x-mas trees.
  4. in my honest opinion it doesnt really matter what wood or what pup aslong as there both decent in quality (and output for the pup). its the way you play it that makes it heavy (to a certain extent of course, using a twin reverb and a strat probably wouldnt sound metal). most metal bands dont sound heavy just with a guitar. the bass and drums are what make it heavy. for example master of puppets by metallica, the guitars arent super saturated but its still heavy because the other insruments and the way they play it. use a decent output pup and play with some aggression. also heavy picks help alot too.
  5. i took a gander at that site didnt find any neon stuff, i even used the search function. thanks anyways, you can never have too many supply sources.
  6. i want/need some neon colored binding and inlay material for a project i am about to start. i cannot find any you guys know of any places or ways i could acquire this stuff. even sheets of plastic that i could cut to make the binding and inlays out of would work. im looking for neon pink, green, yellow, orange, and red. thanks for your help.
  7. iev had the amp for about 2 years now i bought it used for a guy i knew. its always done this but it never occured to me as a problem until i started playing with other gutiarists. ive play with 3 guitarists for months, on several different occations and they always put their amps at about 2-3 then i began to get suspiciouse* about mine. ive played my guitar thru his rig with the same Eq and his is still louder. he runs Duncan JBs i run EMG 81s or Bill Lawrence USA L500XLs. i know its not my guitars, pups or Eq settings. mah eq set as follows: Presence: 3 Bass: 8-10 Mids: 4-5, Treble: 3 Preamp: 5 Gain: 10 (off) Vol A: 6 Vol B: 7 let me explain the preamp/gain thing. the preamp is the actual preamp dist on the amp. the gain knob goes from 10 to 20 (spinal tap +9) but from what i have read and experimented, the gain knob it esentially a mini dirt box built into the amp. even with the pre and the gain both all the way up the volume is the same. i run into a metal zone dist. i know this is also not the problem because i have tried other overdrives/distortions, ala tubescreamer and boss ODs and there is not volume drop when i turn it on. i do not scoop mids on this pedal either. the pedal is set bout the same as the amp.
  8. i own a JCM900 100w, MkIII, model 2100, El34s, w/ 4x12 cab. when i play with my drummer i have to turn my marshall up to 6-7 area to be heard over him. does this mean something is wrong with my amp/cab or do i just have a really loud drummer? My other gutiarist uses a ENGL Ritchie blackmore sig. 100watts w/ 4x12 cab. He only need to turn his up to 2-3. Ive tried the head thru several different cabs and it still is quiet. It was biased when i had the tube replaced last year so i dont know whats up with it. ever since ive had it its been like this even before i had the tubes changed. also just for your info i do not scoop my mids.( i asked this on another forum and the reply i received is " dont scoop your mids") i cannot find any info on this model of amp only the SLX and Reverb Models. i dont know if theres anything wrong with it. it sounds good it just seems abnormally quiet.
  9. thats not entirely true. if you do not recess the floyd im pretty sure youll need neck angle. but, since your recessing the floyd, no you do not need a neck angle.
  10. personally i would not cut fret wire with a band saw. if the teeth grab your done for.
  11. i made neckthru with a 3 peice soft maple neck, it seems fine to me.
  12. heres the guys site wiht instructions http://www.geocities.com/washtubbass/cardboardbass.html
  13. i got the billl lawrence USA because thats the high gain pup. i dont use clean ever. i like my "clean" semi dirty like blues dirty or rockabilly clean as that is the only thing i play thats not metal and/or shred. and dont beleive all the stuff you hear until you try it ive tryed both and i like the BLUSA way more. and it doesnt squeal like they say it does. plus nuno and dime used BL USA not the other guy.
  14. yeah, i know what you mean. i couldnt decide on a logo so i left it blank. i can always add one later. as in tools? i used a peice of wood covered in leather to bend the frets, then a plastic faced hammer and a lead filled, rubbercoated, dead blow hammer. yes, but i did it before paint. if you try it make sure you make the holes a bit bigger for the paint and if you drill your strap button screw hole off slightly off center. i dont think any of the guitars is build will win enless they have AAA+ quilted, burled, spalted, carved maple top, theres nothing wrong with that, its just not my thing really. someday i would like to make a bc rich bich neckthru: quilt top, ebony strigners, head plate and fretboard, 5 peice neck(flame maple, walut, ebony, walnut flame maple), mahogany body, hardtail with a million of those switches and knobs just like those really expensive ones. but, that i do not have the money for at this time. ill stick with veneers and opaque finishes. thanks im surprised that my first build turned out so good.
  15. here it is finished. plays awsome sounds great. final specs: neckthru 25 1/2" scale 3 pc. maple neck alder wings rosewood fretboard medium jumbo frets 24 frets asymetrical neck profile, about .75" thick (fatter on bass side, skinnier on treble) original floyd rose Bill Lawrence USA L500XL pups 2 volume, 3-way switch recessed strapbuttons (dunlop straplocks) strung with di'adario 9's
  16. for the bevels i just mesured on the body and drew lines where i wanted the two edges of the bevel to be, put masking tape for easier visibility and took a rasp and sanding block to it.
  17. you could angle your neck they may fix your problem. just shim it but only on the half of the neck pocket closest tot eh neck pup.
  18. they tested that on mythbusters, even with and open flame in a box of blowing around sawdust it didnt explode.
  19. im assuming prs made that. it is still attached to the cnc machine. but i could be completely wrong as there are people on the forum wiht cncs.
  20. agreed its nice to work with and buffs out great.
  21. my big question tho is if hes using that long of a bit, how does he avoid the bit wandering places not wanted?
  22. are all those things really needed? i been going compressor straight to the gun. no problems with mah finish, bubble free to say the least. although, it could be that i used stewmacs waterbased lacquer.
  23. how difficult was it to build? iw as looking at the High Octane. seems cool also how long did it take?
