  1. I guess I'm going through a phase of Guitar building obsession.
  2. Guitars, guitars, guitars, Wife wants to know when I ever come of the shop.
  3. This ended up being Guitar 4, 5 and 6. I always found it takes time per build when you make more than one at a time. After building the Fretting saws I cut the tabs on my milling machine and pressed in the frets.
  4. That's a good idea, don't get me going. Doing that in one step would save time.
  5. I was cutting fret wire with a hand saw and found it a pain. Well I made a fret cut saw which works well, and yes it took about 20 hours to make but I love it!
  6. OK, well I only cut slots for three guitars. 1st. one I tried Clime-cutting and Under-cutting. The thing with Clime-cutting is that the saw would jump forward and jam occasionally. Undercutting seem to illuminate the Jamming but sometimes the start of the slot ended up .005" wider. On the 3rd. guitar I did a clime cut with a fast return cut to make sure the cut was at full depth. Out of 25 cuts two had a .005" wider at the far side of the cut, not to bad, filler!
  7. To mount the guitar and cut 24 frets took close to 25 min. not fast enough for production I guess. I thought about pins instead of screws with some type of quick clamp but didn't want to spend another 10 hours building it. It's kind of crazy, I could have hand cut about 50 guitars in the amount of time it took to make this saw. Also the 1st push button I used failed after about 10 cuts on a test piece.
  8. I feel the slight angle to the frets makes it a little more Comfortable to play.
  9. Thanks everyone for your input. I finished my electric fret saw and wanted to cut the fret slots on the three guitars I'm making. I wanted to confirm that the last two guitars I made with fanned frets sounded right before cutting them. When I couldn't get the tuning software to work, I got frustrated. I just adjusted the bridge using the 12th fret harmonic and I feel it sound pretty good.
  10. One problem I'm having is that I haven't had any luck using the Tune-Lab software for adjusting the bridge. I've been using the phone app. maybe if I use a laptop with a direct USB cable it might work better. I used a DRO to measure the fret spacing. At this point basic chords sound unpleasant.
  11. I got my fret spacing from StewMac Fret position calculator. So far I'm not happy with the results. I guess I have a lot to learn about intentions. I guess I'm lazy and always want the short cut. Any so-called secrets would be appreciated. My guitar I made at 16 coping an SG spacing worked out well. My last build last year I angled the frets using two different scale lengths. I used 24" for High E and 24.5" for Low E
  12. First test cuts on pine. Seems pretty good but I don't like the marks left by the aluminum foot. I haven't tried cutting rosewood yet. I might have to increase the voltage higher on the motor.
  13. Here's where it's at. I'll post drawings for those who are interested.
  14. Boy if I was charging $50 an hour, this thing would cost $1,000 It's getting close to trying it.
  15. The far right fixture was for manual rotating.
  16. Good start, I built one a few years
  17. I've been designing an electric Fret Saw. I'm pretty close to start machining the parts. It should be a Fun project. One benefit to the project is that I'm finally learning to use CAD .
  18. I decided rather than making just one I'd make three. Here's my fingerboard radius jig.
  19. I'm building Guitars for fun, so I don't want to spend to much. I needed wood for three fingerboards so I bought a piece that would make two, Then I glued the cut-offs to make the third. It needed to be an 1/8" wider so I added a piece of maple..
  20. Wife has been complaining about DUST! So I bought an air cleaner. I installed it last week. Today it war nice out so I opened my bulkhead door and the sun came in . And while working on my guitars, this is what i saw! ARRRRRRRRRRRR. Stars? It's crazy, until the sun shined in you couldn't see the dust! Notice that above the sunlight you can't see the dust.
