  1. I’m on a super tight budget for this project so I bought a very cheap off-brand Floyd rose (like less than $40 kind of cheap). What would be the first few things you guys would recommend upgrading since an actual Floyd rose is out of my budget?
  2. Alright after some trial and error I got the whole circuit working I think, unfortunately I blew the LED in the kill switch cause I forgot to attach the resistor to the power supply terminal so I’ll need to order another one. Other than that thanks everyone for your time and help - much appreciated!
  3. Yes that diagram is pretty similar, I’ll make sure to double check it against mine thank you. And yes I’m trying to have the killswitch be actives only when plugged in
  4. I tested it just by installing a battery and completing the circuit between the ground and hot I think (I’m not sure if that’s the correct terminology so sorry if it doesn’t make sense) I really doubt it’s been damaged since installing it, I don’t see how it could’ve been damaged. I asked about the 4 tip output Jack because it was sent with the preamp so I thought maybe I had to use it specifically?
  5. Almost there! I’m pretty sure everything is working though it’s hard to be for sure without strings on (I definitely have a signal from the pickup it’s just a little hard to tell if the coil split and preamp are working but I think they are) The only thing not working is the led on the kill switch (the killswitch itself is working and cutting out the signal but it’s not lit up), I tested it a week or so ago so I know I don’t have a faulty switch. You also mentioned a “switched tip output Jack” just curious - what’s that?
  6. Hello thank you for your reply, I forgot to mention it but you’re right - the push/pull pot is supposed to be wired up for a coil split function. Thanks again for your advice - I made the fixes you pointed out but I’m still having the same issue: a pretty loud buzz and the LED killswitch isn’t lighting up, however, the killswitch works other than that. I do have a signal from the pickup but it’s drowned out in the buzz. I also saw that my output Jack has 4 terminals and I’m not sure what they’re each for cause most of the diagrams I see have 3. At this point I feel like I have it wired incorrectly but I don’t know for sure. Please advise
  7. I took a slug at wiring this up and came up dry, I’ve attached some pictures below but in case it helps diagnose it: I plugged it all in and got lots of feedback, also the LED killswitch should light up when plugged in to the output Jack but it’s not. Please advise!
  8. Hello all, I’m getting ready to put together a circuit for a guitar. It’s got a single Humbucker (Seymour Duncan nazghul), tesi LED kill switch, single volume pot, and an onboard boost/preamp switch!(https://www.ebay.com/itm/195590131221?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=OE0w0tK7TNu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ncwrvoyjtbk&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) I’ve got no idea where to start, I usually just follow diagrams but I couldn’t find one for this. Also if anyone knows if you can hook up the kill switch so the LED turns off when the guitar is unplugged (I have no idea if that’s possible but if it please let me know) please advise, thanks!
  9. I’ll mess around with my multimeter and see what I find out. Thanks for your perspective!
  10. Im pretty sure that’s not the problem, I’ve got a couple guitars with EMGs in them and one had the “problem switch” installed, I then swapped for a new one and everything works great. I’d like to be able to use the problem one in a different guitar now.
  11. Only one pickup will is giving any sound, neither the middle or opposite position work. I checked and flipping the switch in either direction still makes the proper connection between the spring leaf parts.
  12. I’ve got an EMG equipped guitar with the solderless system hooked up and the solderless toggle switch wasn’t working. I took it out, cleaned it gently with a brush, reinstalled and tried again still nothing. I took it out again, I checked that the bent spring leaf parts are making contact and both sides DO make contact. That’s about the extent of my electrical knowledge, any suggestions?
  13. I’ll check out the links you sent, thanks so much!
  14. Working on a neck, I’m curious if I can dye it and then walnut with tung oil? I’m pretty sure it’s alcohol based dye, not certain
  15. Thank you all for your info, I’ll look into it soon. Also I’m not sure if this may help diagnose the issue but sometimes I play high notes (anything over the 10th on the B string) with distortion l, there’s a fuzzy crackly sound
  16. Having problems with my amp. I’m using a crate GX-60, any time I go too loud with distortion on it makes a loud buzz/fuzzy sound that’s not my distortion pedal, it goes away when turn the pedal volume down. Please advise.
  17. I’m I’m the southwestern US so I’ll definitely make be sure to check out that last one, thanks
  18. Working on a carved top guitar, looking to add some sort of figured maple (preferably quilted, but anything with a lot of figure). I don’t want to break the bank, if I can I want to keep it around $75 with shipping (I know that’s a big ask). Where do you guys source your guitar tops?
  19. It’s hard to test that since it randomly cuts in and out, if cuts out again I’ll try that and if it does I can replace the volume pot
  20. I inherited a crate GX-60 from my grandpa and I’ve been using it for 2 years with no issues. I usually play with distortion or a metal zone or something like that. Last night (and for the first time) I kicked on my metal zone pedal and the whole amp went quiet. I could hear the guitar through the amp still but it was ridiculously quiet, even when I turned off the pedal. Please advise
  21. I’m rewiring my guitar, putting EMG wireless pickups, 2 volume, master tone, and a 3 way switch. I’ve got all that set up but I want to add a couple more things: a treble bleed and a kill switch. Not a big deal if I can’t get the treble bleed but I would like the kill switch. I know EMG has a solderless kill switch available but its expensive so if theres a way to wire one on that would be helpful, please advise - thank you
  22. So if I pre solder everything, do I do anything to keep the wires from rattling around or will it be okay as long as there’s not too much slack?
  23. Is it standard to to build the whole thing then add electronics or install the electronics on the top of the body before glueing it into place? I’m guessing it’s the ladder since it would be pretty hard to install those potentiometer without access to the bottom half of them
  24. I checked out the link you sent, it might be a good start but I see some differences between that model and the one I want to make - most importantly: it’s not setup to have the electronics like I want. I’ll attach a picture below to show what I’m looking for
  25. It's done! I finished polishing, soldering, and assembling hours ago and couldn't be happier with how it came out. All of the electronics work as they're supposed to and I now know how to troubleshoot most of the issues I might encounter thanks to everyone's advice. Thanks so much to everyone who helped out I couldn't be more grateful and I'm proud to present to you all the most gorgeous guitar I've ever seen
