  2. Man that's looking great! the neck tenon looks like it will be nice and long! Also cool choice for fretboard wood! it will look awesome! Good work! C
  3. I will email them to find out if they can get the thicker binding, it looks like they sell a thicker type so maybe they can order it? thanks guys! C
  4. Hey guys I did a search here and on the web and have not been able to come up with any sites selling Red ABS or plastic binding. I've seen the various dyed wood bindings available through LMII but was wondering if anyone had any info on where to get some? There have been a number of Jackson, Gibson and Washburn guitars with red binding through the years, Gibson actually produced a les paul very recently with this binding. Is it feasible to dye abs? I know that sounds silly, but I really just would love to get some red binding haha thanks guys! Cheers! C
  5. They used the Bill Lawrence L-500XL as well as the Dimebucker, but even inside that there was another rip off Bill Lawrence pickup that Stew-Mac supplied to washburn which was not the original there is actually 3 different Bill Lawrence L-500XL pickups and it's bloody confusing! Anyhow, When I came here I had only the best intentions, I never assumed it would escelate to the point of being attacked, as you said "we just deal with guitars" well that's all I wanted to deal with, instead I got hostility from the majority of posters in this thread, perhaps I should be a bigger man, but Alas I am not, I'm just honest I suppose and I don't believe in biting my tounge oh well, live and learn I suppose, I thought my last reply was rather good! Anyhow, thanks for all the encouragement about the neck. The guitar was supposedly constructed with "honduran" mahogany in the first place, and I looked at various types available at my local wood hut, so I ended up buying a chunk of "honduran" mahogany and off we went! The neck itself is actually 3 pieces with the center chunck going the opposite way, all quatersawn, the headstock plate is flatsawn, it all has a really nice figure in it, and the ribbon look you mentioned is pretty stunning when it's in your hands! Anyhow the next build will be 100% my own! Thanks guys! Chris
  6. Awesome inlay! I really admire the amount fo work that goes into that, it's just mind boggeling! Thanks for showing us the completed work! Chris
  7. Oh yeah These might not be YOUR thing, but here is a family shot! I love these guitars! RIP DIME I hope I'm not rubbing anything into anyones face!!!!! Thanks guys! Cheers! Chris
  8. He have already been warned and he just appologized on the above post! Your comments have been saved in the MOD's section!
  9. Looks more like the peanut gallery are just warming up... Oh and by the way, what the **** is a haXor? Chris
  10. Setch Thanks! I'm no ace with this picture adding business! at least I tried! not like the last few times haha! Anyhow, with the nut, that is just a temporary shim, I wanted to test and made sure everything was level and the frets didn't need any more attention, so that's all it is! the nut in the picture is perfect for the guitar, it's just chrome! not black, hence why I am waiting on a black one. Anyhow, this thing is right as rian! neck is REALLY thick now, so It's working great! Chris
  11. Well here it is! It's almost done now, just another buff, and a final assembly and setup, and it's ready to kick some ass! waiting on the neck pickup and the black locking nut, it's always something!!! Back of neck Here is a closeup of the inlays I had done at www.custominlay.com I think this looks really good with this finish! inlay Here is another shot of the inlay and front of body. Inlay and Body I really screwed the picture loading tool up, can someone fix these? Thansks! So I'll post more pictures of this when it's done! So far this thing is amazing! let me do a recap -Bought broken guitar on ebay -Decided to put new neck and fretboard on existing guitar -Took to local luthier who decided he would teach me how to do this. -Posted on local repair forum =o) -Posts ensued about how rubbish the idea was and how it would end up being firewood -Worked on neck + guitar every monday for the past few months -End results. So all in all this guitar is one of the best washburn Dimes I own, and I have 4 others, plus 4 more on the way! Thanks guys! I'll post up some finished pics in a week or so when the pickup gets here! Chris You should try to use proper naming conventions when saving files - specifically *no spaces!* The gaps in the title confused the forum software which tried to autoconvert them into link tags, but instead just royally screwed the pooch. This won't happen if you use _underscores_ instead of spaces.
  12. Hey guys I'm looking to find a place that does anodizing or textured finishes on aluminum, especially in canada, I'm looking for black and green anodizing or powder coating, or textured coatings on aluminum. I have some plates that I need to try and match up, let me know Chris
  13. Hey guys Sorry for the lack of posts, still wiating on the last few coats to cure, christmas and new years slowed everything WAY down, but it should be done and ready for the frets to be crowned and the hardware to be installed, then strung up and PLAYYYYYYYYYYYYED! I can't wait Chris
  14. Hello That's pretty cool, I really love how clean and neat everything looks, your quite the builder! I can;t wait to show you all my finished works! Chris
  15. Hello do you have any examples available to show me? thanks! Chris
  16. Hello I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to make the best logos and I'm interested in how companies make chrome and gold logos. here is an example http://www.ormsbyguitars.com/images/Ormsby_wallpaper7.jpg http://pictures.kyozou.com/pictures/_2/1125/1124109.jpg I noticed samick, fender and washburn also use this technique, it doesn't look terribly thick, but how do they get them to be so perfectly chromed? are they thin pieces of etched meta that they have chromed? if it were done like that I would think the pieces would distort, since thats usually the case with chroming even large parts of metal, what about some sort of tape? I havn't found any that are REALLY chrome, just more of a polished look. I also noticed in the case of samick and washburn they are able to acheive a very detailed lettering that is very small, and it looks quite good, would they be some type of transfer? not like a typical decal though...... any ideas? thanks guys
  17. New pics are approaching, I've just got to wait for the finish to cure and then some sanding then more finish, I just want to get the finish that sunk into the grain drop filled first before I take pics hehe anyhow, this thing is a total labour of love, it might not be how most approach a situation like this, but it turned out how I wanted it in the first place! and since it will be the only one with a neck like this, it's pretty special! anyhow, I love it! I had tony Burn his trademark K in the back of the headstock as well, and I think it's perfect! next I'll stamp in the original serial number and a 1966-2004 to pay tribute to Dime! Chris Oh and Thanks Fryovanni I really want this back in action so I don't have to have the itch to buy another one hahah Chris
  18. Yes a new case for all of them has been designed and built, I had to basically go with a thick aluminum road case, since I'll be palying shows with them it makes sence anyhow. The original case flexed so much it's a wonder how any of mine survived shipping! Chris
  19. Des- The binding matches as best as we could get it, you have to realize this guitar was built in 1999, and we are just replacing a broken neck, the finish was already on the guitar and headstock plate, we just had to match it up. I'll try to get a pic, it matches in real life hahah Chris
  20. Setch- I havn't been here for a while and forgot about the rules from the first time, I apologize, when I finish this up I'll post them the proper way, I didn't post them like that out if disrepsect! thanks for fixing my mistake. I have also done alot of work on thos build. mind you it was alot of detail and finishing work I've done before, but I did help on 70% of this project. The neck will be set into the original pocket, the guitar was designed this way and does not pose a problem, as the 5 others I have stock from Washburn USa were built like this, we looked over the originals and the other guitars I have and opted to copy the guitar down to the last mm, so this will be very much just a stock guitar that we rebuilt a neck for from scratch. However we added some died green flame maple to line the fretboard and to setoff the black binding since I went with an ebony board. The inlays look really striking on this, I'm also using two new pickups both colour matched with the body. As for the maple, I didn't touch the maple, I sawed off the original maple veneer and binding and re attached it to the new headstock with no problems what so ever, this has actually turned out to be fairly simple, knock on wood haha the neck is like the original 3 pieces of honduran mahogany, with a large thick single piece for the headstock plate, it's got a large diamond volute, and where we made it stronger was we added 2 carbon graphite rods that go down beside the truss rod, therefore no deadspots and a muc stiffer neck. overall I'm 150% happy with the progress, as it looks better than any other Dime 3 I've played and owned. Thanks Chris
  21. Clearly I'm going to trash this and scavenge it for parts eh? hummm...Don't think so Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Humm well these are a little older these pics as the neck is shaped and glued in and just waiting for the finish to cure. Seems like it turned out well to me, and in the end I got EXACTLY the guitar I've wanted. Chris Diezel; Seriously, read the image posting rules before you post anymore images - consider this a good natured, but serious final warning. Another post with too many images, each individually over the size limit; will result in a weeks suspension from posting. -Setch.
  22. Well in reality this guitar will be finished in a month, the NEW neck is already all glued up and it's in the carving stage now, waiting on some crabon rod and the new fretboard with inlays, then it's on to gluing the new neck in and finishing.... Crafty, I'd hate to see what your non-constructive critisicm is like!!! I've taken the advice of Setch, as the old fretboard is still useable from a measuring standpoint and I have all the information I need thanks to some GOOD people emailing me and supporting me. This was a custom shop USA made guitar, Hardly cheap as they retailed for 3500$ in canada in 1995, I paid 400$ for this, as it was damaged in shipping the first time around to the person who originally bought it. Perhaps I flew a little off the handle, but when people start chiming in that OBVIOUSLY havn't even read my initial post and then slamming my good friend and quite able luthier Tony, I get a little on the defensive side. Setch, thank you for the positive criticism, and help! I'll be back in a month or so with the finished product! Chris
  23. I had a whole post written defending what we are doing, but it is pointless as you are all such professionals!!! HA Thanks for my limited stay here but this is not even constructive , And to call Tony "fishy" without EVER having seen a ****ing thing he has done or know the situation fully is BEYOND ME??!?!?!? this is not a waste, but that is only your opinion, and you know what they say about those! Thanks to everyone for reading my post as well, I WANTED A NEW NECK!!! Hence the reason for the post in the first place, the original neck was too thin for my liking, and would have had unsightly repair as this is a natural finish on the back of the guitar, ahhh why am I even bothering! Setch. however thank you, even though I think you misunderstood, as the old fretboard is still intact, just the 19 to 22 fret is missing due to cutting the neck off. anyhow, I'm just going to leave as I'm no match for the obvious pro's here! Good day to you all! Chris
  24. Sorry guys! I didn't mean to break the rules! we are all noobs once though hahaha The original fretboard was destroyed after we cut off the neck...I suppose I could piece it back together to get the fret spacings. and as for as a compensated nut, this guitar has a floyd rose on it., no compensated floyd nuts as far as I know. thanks for all the input guys! Chris
  25. Sorry, I just wanted to show the detail, I'll see if I can resize them! Chris
