  1. I got them....just have no way of posting them I have a great example on the murphy technique on a Les Paul headstock I can e-mail if someone will post
  2. As I said....many ways of doing it. Coolant willl work, but Murphy's technique is FAR better! Oh...and Murphy's technique will work for Poly finishes....Try getting anything but Nitro to crack by freezing it & you will be wasting your time!
  3. I used to think that "heating and cooling" was how cracking was done as well. Like anything else, there are many ways to do this and some will argue one way is better than the other. I had the unique pleasure of meeting Tom Murphy (for those who don't know, Tom does the Gibson relics). I know for a fact that Tom actually scores the finish with a razor to achieve the effect. If you look at the Gibson relics next to the Fenders you will see what a HUGE difference this technique makes! It is very laborious & time consuming and there is a certain science in determining how a finish checks....once you know it, you can spot forgeries a mile away!!! I have done both techniques and i will tell you...It is worth the time & effort to do it Mr. Murphy's way! I am not even a Gibson guy and I think Murphy's stuff is where the relic artistry is at it's best
  4. Crafty: Please...............tell me you are joking! there is an art to relicing without having it look fake Case in point. Every time I see kenny Wayne Shepard's "relic' Strat I CRINGE!!!! Relicing is alot more than sandpaper & throwing keys at your guitar
  5. I am actually in the process of writing an e-book on relicing tips & tricks. What type of guitar are you doing & what type of finish?
  6. Is it just me...or do you guys miss the tutorials that Bri was putting up? I know he is probably extreemly busy, but I have to admit that the tutorials were my FAVORITE part of project guitar! I was really looking forwar to the pickguard tutorial, the "snakeskin finish", and the glow in the dark paint he was working on. Not trying to complain, I guess I am just wondering if these tutorials are going to be coming. I, for one, think Brian is the MASTER at this type of stuff and I miss that part of Project Guitar. BRING BACK THE TUTORIALS BRI!!!!
  7. Voted for Scott! Scott knows his stuff, is a class act, and has kept a mature attitude in spite of NUMEROUS unwarented personal attacks in the past. It says something about ones character when they take the high road... Scott always has done so!
  8. Have fun & good luck! As an FYI...it probably cost me $100 on my electric bill alone building the carved top PRS (LOL)

  11. I build them & I actually have a 24 fret CE bolt on carved top....solid Alder & routed for trem I botched the white paint job, but I would be willing to sell for $350 as is. You will NEVER find it for less...trust me on this! PRS carved tops are one of the most labor intensive bodies you can ever build. Here is a pic before the paint

I am specifically looking for Ibanez, Charvel, OLD Kramers (not the Gibson CRAPPY ones), and ESP guitars. I am, however, open to any good guitars. 17. I am planning on building a Jackson Soloist tribute and I am looking for a 25.5 neck through blank. Carvin has a 25 scale Stew Mac has a 25 scale Does anyone know where to get a 25.5 scale? Dave
  18. This string has officially been raised from the dead! I got the JB junior-single coil by the following method: 1- I removed the "pickup cover" off the JB jr. 2- I VERY carefully sanded the edges of the pickup to remove some of the mass. BE FOREWARNED!!!! I ruined 3 pickups by sanding to low and cutting into the copper windings 3- I took a single coil pickup cover and sanded out as much of the inside I could to remove the mass 4-I then put the cover in boiling water for about 3-5 minutes. This allowed the plastic to expand and soften 5- I then forced the cover over the J.B. jr and let it cool down 6 I cut 6 "polepieces" from a hot glue gun glue stick 7 I painted the polepieces with a mixture of brown stain and metal paint and then put them in each of the polepiece hole openings 8-DONE!!! PLEASE be careful! Like I said earlier, I ruined 3 pickups doing these steps...I would hate to be responsable for you ruining your pickups it's funny this string has been brought back to life...I am actually doing the final set up and wiring next weekend! Any interest in the final pix being posted? Dave K
  19. lichfield: Are you saying to sand the COLOR coat to 1500 as well?
  20. I am in the process of re-finishing a PRS style body. I have always avoided painting, as I have BOTCHED most of the jobs I attempted. This time, however, things are going quite well! I have applies the sanding sealer, put on a primer coat, and am now applying the white basecoat. Here is my question...as I follow the tutorials from LGM and others, there is no mention of wet-sanding the base coat before applying the clear. For some reason, I have always thought that you were supposed to wet sand the color coat before you apply clear. I know there are many ways to paint, but if you can let me know if this step can be avoided, I would appreciate it Thanks,, DaveK
