  1. It has been a little like deja-vu. It's all Deano's design way before he saw mine on this forum in March. And it's not a bad twin sister to have either !!!! There's only one glitch...............Deano wants it back in a week and a bit to assemble. Backs cheers, Stu
  2. I put the last nitro coats on this a week ago. I'll let it sit for another week and a half and then buff her up to a nice gloss. Just in time for Deano to get back from Overseas and hastily assemble it for his VCE assessment. He should be fairly happy, I hope. neck heel whole back cheers, Stu
  3. Here's some reading material for you. Ian Noyce guitars He shares some interesting info here I've used quite a few aussie timbers in builds and a heap more in progress but not enough to formulate my opinions and give that knowledge back to you as fact. Theories maybe, but that doesn't help all that much other than cloud the issues. You could also speak to these luthiers and get the good oil from them. They're happy to help. Gerard Gilet Kim Hancock And we can't forget Maton, Cole Clark etc.................... cheers, Stu
  4. Happiness is a well-honed chisel, hand plane, scraper.....................also much safer. cheers, Stu
  5. I know damn well that what we get in Australia isn't a patch on what's available elsewhere in the world but I use a white de-waxed shellac for sealing. There's gotta be something similar in the outer educated world!!!!! clicky cheers, Stu
  6. The fact you're going a seven string , 24 frets and a 25.5" set up is enough to tell me you want at least an 18". Any less and you're asking for dramas. cheers, Stu
  7. I also like what you've done with it . Although I've got a lot of inner turmoil from my metal demons telling me to stay away!!!!!! I like the twist on an original. Cheers, Stu
  8. I'll be honest with you when I say I've never used the word 'posting' in the context of being in a supermarket parking lot. (In the back seat and of a Carnal nature ?) Hmmm.........it always creeps back to that gutter....... Cheers, Stu
  9. That's truly a string of bad luck there, Brian. A real kick in the guts. I'm happy to see each of those projects you showed me all done and dusted...............nearly. I've noticed you on PG heaps lately, so maybe maintenance took a backseat for a bit. No damage to your workshop gear from the roller door hopefully. And what changes are you due to make to your workshop area? Obviously bigger !!!! Oh yeah...........if it's not too painful to re-live, how about showing your repair method ? cheers, Stu
  10. Try this one on for size, Dayvo. tiger eye Cheers, Stu
  11. I use the same as Chennik, Ray. http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts....tion+welded+nut I've used the hotrods before and now only use these double action welded nut rods. (TRED). Thin necks are no problem with these. cheers, Stu
  12. This past thread should shed a bit more light. click
  13. Lovely looking stuff. Hmm...........may have to dig deep into my pockets. And Bobby, you're obviously a Bruce Dickinson fan. cheers, Stu
  14. Ouch !! Convert that to Aussie dollars and add shipping and it's a no go for me. Shame, because it looks to be a great piece of whammy-ware. cheers, Stu
  15. All great in their own ways, and obviously a popular month to finish builds in. !!!! I went for Jammy's fanned fret acoustic. That build resonated with me (pun intended) cheers, Stu
  16. Mathews' Timber in Vermont, Brian. Aprilethereal666 was there just a matter of hours beforehand ,looking through the pile. And I was 3 days previous to that. Looking at Qld walnut though. On occasions like this I'd like to think the timber chooses who it wants to take it home. It's either that or come to terms with the fact I sort through the pile with my eyes closed. Deano brought a small offcut over to my place that night and the figure is absolutely stunning. Lucky bugger !!!!! Nice work Deano. You burn the midnight lamp Thursday night? cheers, Stu
  17. It really does like a trick unit, albeit with little info on it. All I was able to find on my searches were a few quotes about how good they were and energy transfer. Thanks for the hands on info, David and Crimson. Let us know what the damage is on that unit, Greg. cheers, Stu
  18. http://www.mykaguitars.com/instruments/051/default.htm It'd be great to get David's perspective on this brand of tremolo . If you're in da house, David.
  19. Nice Brian. You've got some different, outside of the square kind of ideas, and your own style which compliments what you're achieving. Nice padauk there, too. It's good to see your two builds moving along. How's that work shop of yours. Is it getting much use? I should bloody well hope so !!! cheers, Stu
  20. I'm looking for more info on these babies , If anyone has got their mitts on one before, how do they handle? Here's the link. skyway tremolos Cheers, Stu
  21. Very nice build, Paul. Impressive artwork and also a versatile setup with your choice of 'buckers. I like the use of yellow fretmarkers too. It ties it all together nicely. B.T.W. You'll find bloody heaps of aussies on this forum. Cheers , Stu
  22. That V is definitely a boy !!!!!! Well done on the build Mr. 666 A beauty of a Qld maple top and put to good use to boot!!! And for the record , I've always preferred the way that V sounded directly through your Marshall TSL anyhow.. I think it's balanced just fine, to my ears anyway. But then again, I don't always hear correctly. (when the wife's in my ear ) see ya Friday, Stu
  23. I've used it for bindings before. It's problematic for tighter radiusses, although it is used on acoustic builds for back and sides as well as binding. binding example #1 The fretboard and bindings I did were straight runs and worked well. cheers, Stu
  24. Eventually it'll get used. Although I've got 3 other similar sheoak tops, one of them is bound to get used this year for sure. That's the best of the bunch from memory. cheers, Stu
