  5. Good luck to all entries everyones stuff is awsome, and I love the puzzle inlay very cool! The cool thing about the guitar I made is the fact that it is in the hands of Richie Sambora of BON JOVI. Flew to anehiem CA last Feb. to deliver the guitar. Very cool time. Again I wish all luck................... Mike

  8. Mike, that's great. I've never worked with purpleheart and haven't warmed up to it in the projects I've seen on this site, until now. I really like the use of it here, probably because it is integrated into maple and mahogany. Also, I find it very interesting to look at i.e. the thin laminate between the mahogany and the maple, the maple / purpleheart binding. Those details make the more "usual" neckthrough purpleheart laminates much more interesting to me. Me likey very much. Do you mill you own pieces such as the piece between the mahogany and maple and the binding? On the image link above, the maple in the neck under the fretboard sits proud of the body. Did you build that in when you made the neck laminates - like a step, or did you route down the neck that runs through the body? Killer. Yes I mill all of my own wood much better quality control that way. I buy all of my wood in bulk and mill as needed. As for your other question I glued my sides on where I wanted them, and then routed the neck section of the body down to match the body..... Thanks to all for the great feedback!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike
  9. Once I have made the final shpe of the neck, and before I radious the fretboard is when I do the binding. I use the stew mac router base and my dremel, but you can use a regular router as well. I determine how thick I want my binding to be, and then route out the required spce needed. To create th actual binding I glue up the wood that will be the binding, and in this case purpleheart and curly maple. The curly maple piece is 1/4"x3/4" and the purpleheart is 3/4"x3/4". After the glue is dry I square up th piece and the run it through my planer to get the curly maple to thickness I want. Then I cut it in half on the table saw, and glue it in place. Take care to mask off all areas you don't want glu to get on. Also make sure to leave yourself enough room to clean out the clue that will get into the fret kerf. This is very important to do, because trying to do this afterwards is not at all fun not to mention super time consuming. I learned this the hard way!!!!!!! well this is how I do my bindings if you have any more questions on the subject feel free to send me a mesage. Mike

  16. more power to you man. I bought a violin kit from stew mac for my wife. And I have a friend who is a violin builder so I can pic his brain for tips on building this thing. Iwould have made it from scratch but time is a major factor since I want it done for a christmas present.... I wish you all the best on your quest...... Mike

  18. it's nice to see people thinking out side of the box when it comes finishing, hell and building too for that matter. very nice looking finish. keep up the good work.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike
  19. I have yet to use one but I just got one to put in a neck through that I am building. I thing that it is going to be very nice to have a little more diversity in my guitar. I didn't buy the x-control deal, I was going to do a custom wire job with it. Want to have every other string split sides, so that E,D,B are on the left and A,G,E will be on the right for a awesome stereo efect. I think it is worth it if you want to have an acoustic sound from your electric guitar.GOOD LUCK on whatever you decide to do.. you do need to know that the radious of the bridge is 14" Mike
  20. Watco natural danish oil is a great product for this kind of thing. I am doing a Purple heart neck through that will be finished natural but i want the grain to stand out a bit more than just with lacquer. Mike
  21. Your guitar is looking great so far do you have any updated photos..... Mike
  22. No I am not some company!!! I was just wanting a list of parts needed for this thing. Stew Mac wants $355 for their neck jig. I said no way and built my own for $60 in parts. the wood I already had. Just trying to save a few $$$$$$$$$. Mike
  23. anyone have a parts list and any idea on what the hardware runs for this?????????? Mike
