  1. Hey everyone, Is there any way to do a wah pedal mod to make it switchless? I know the Mark Tremonti Wah and some others are like this. Does anyone know if it is possible?
  2. They have a knockoff one at www.mandalaymusic.com, I got a strat-copy from them before that was really cool. I never tried the hollow LP, though. It looks nice...
  3. Funny, that's the one I was thinking about. I'm still worried about the body wood, though. You think it'll be ok? I'll try it, I only need to replace the bridge pickup anyway. If anyone else has any suggestions, I would be glad to hear them. -Nathan
  4. Here's the deal: I have an ibanez s7420. When I play on the low B, it tends to get muddy. I think it's because the body is mahogany. Is there a pickup I can get that will brighten up the sound? Right now the stock pickups are still on it. Also, I don't know if active pickups are an option because the control cavities are so small in the s guitars, there wouldn't be room for a battery. Also, I have another question: Does anyone know if the s series guitars use a standard 5-way switch for the "special wiring". It looks like a normal switch, but it might not be. -thanks
  5. I was wondering: Is anyone trying to trade out the tremelo on their K-7? I do some of the trem effects they use, so it might be good for me to have the u-bar. Plus, I gotta replace my TRS. If anyone has one, I'd be glad to give an offer for it. Thanks, antique_dream@yahoo.com
  6. while we're on the subject, where do you get glow in the dark material for side dots/inlays?
  7. They use them in danelectro guitars, they basically look like old-fashioned lipstick covers. Take a look at www.Danelectro.com and check out the guitars or the accessories section.
  8. After I picked up 7-string, I never looked back. It just FEELS right to me. I have two 7 strings: Danelectro Mod 7 and Ibanez S7420FM. Both of them are awesome guitars, but my fave is the Ibanez. Here's my advice, though: you have to play one before you can decide. I realized I wanted to go 7-string the moment I tried one. I don't know if its the same way for anyone else, but that's how I decided.
  9. Actually, I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on them. I don't know anyone personally that has tried them besides me. I have a Danelectro Mod 7 and it can get some pretty cool sounds. Also, I think they look pretty cool. What are everyone's thoughts on the lipsticks?
  10. This is just a general question, has anyone ever tried the "justrings.com" brand strings? They sell them in bulk for pretty cheap, I just want to know if anyone has any experience with them. Also, while we're on the subject, what kind of strings do you guys use and why?
  11. what does this thermal spa look like? I have an old foot spa, do you think that might work?
  12. derek, The 7 string bridge you have says 15" radius only, will that work with an ibanez neck? I think ibanez necks are 16". Also, I'm replacing a TRS, will it retrofit? Another thing, I heard from some people that the "licensed" Floyd Rose bridges are made to poorer standards than the "original" FR's. Even Carvin sells the "licensed" FR's for 7-string. This is what stopped me from getting one from Warmoth and some other places, I could never find an OFR for 7-string (I don't even play 6-string, so settling with that was not an option). I notice that you have the originals- is this true about the licensed ones, or is it just a BS story?
  13. DaveK, I actually went to the same guitar show, I agree that it was pretty uneventful. I did, however, get a good trade with a guy from Ray's music. He took a modified strat-copy I had and gave me a Danelectro Mod 7 (a very awesome, underrated guitar). The McNaught guitars were really cool, even though I have to say I liked the custom basses a lot more (they had a 6-string made from goncalo alves, I think, that I couldn't take my eyes off). Other than that, it was pretty dull. It seemed like most of the guys there wouldn't touch anything that wasn't "vintage". I'm not really into the whole vintage thing, so I didn't feel the show was "for me". By the way, whereabouts in Detroit are you located, DaveK?
  14. I called the and the guy said that I should be able to tune to standard BEADGBE. Key word, though: "should" He didn't sound very sure about it. I'm still kind of worried, so I might not do it. Thanks anyway.
  15. Here's the deal: I want to have a 7 string made by warmoth, but there is a problem. They use 25" scale length on their standard 7 strings. I have an Ibanez with a 25.5" scale and I feel I need it to be longer. Warmoth only offers one other scale length and that is 25 5/8". I know that some 7 strings use 27" scale (like the Stephen Carpenter model) and that you can use standard tuning. Would 28 5/8 be too long for standard tuning? -thanks
  16. What about getting a baritone neck from Warmoth and putting it on an old strat or something?
  17. I know this is going to sound funny, but I have heard of guys making home-made adaptors. For example, on an alarm clock that only works on batteries. Have you guys ever tried this? It seems like it might be easy on a nine volt battery compartment. Yes, I know I'm cheap. But actually, I'm more interested in the project of making an adaptor than the money I'll save. Tell me what you guys think. By the way, have you guys seen the board that carvin sells? I'm not sure how it works. The link is here: http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exe?...2&P2=502G&P1=EP Thanks
  18. Actually, i don't even have any active pickups yet. I was just wondering because I am thinking about having an active system on my next guitar, and I usually practice with headphones for very extended periods- I know that having to change my batteries would really frustrate me. About how long do they usually last?
  19. I'm wondering this about active pickups- if I'm practicing and I don't want to use up a battery, can I install a switch that will make them not use the battery power (even if the output is lowered or if it gets noisier)? I know that Carvin sells some type of circuit board that does this, but do I need to have one of these? thanks
  20. Doesn't Parker use basswood for their necks? How do they manage to get it strong enough?
  21. Actually, I was thinking of ditching the figured top idea, so the back routing might work out. Also, could I keep the control cavity intact as well, leaving only a small hole for the wires and go with one f-hole on the left side? What about a custom f-hole design with one in the lower left corner and one near the right upper horn?
  22. I have this strange idea for a project. I've been reading up on different things and I think I want to start working on/building guitars. So far, I've only messed with electronics and wiring. I want to take one of the ibanez AX style guitars like this one . Anyway, here's my idea- I want to route out the top and get it as close to hollow as I can. Then, I want to put a new top on it (probably flame maple or quilt) with carved f-holes, and reassemble and re-paint it. Will this work? Also, what kind of bridge should I use (I obviously can't use a string-thru). thanks.
  23. canuck, I have this recorder and it works out fine. I paid $300 US for it, but the one in the picture comes with other stuff as well. With this recorder, it is easy to transfer your stuff to a computer and you can use any software you like. To transfer it, all you have to do is to connect a USB cable to the computer and it shows up as another hard drive. Anyway, if you got this, all you would have to do is get a drum machine. Also, it has eight tracks, which is a lot more than you might usually get for the price. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=03...l/base_id/89991
