  1. after looking into it i orderd a earvana just to try it out but most of my guitars have floyds so i assume the Buzz would be the only real solution and Batfink why is it a compromise with the floyd i can get a floyd to intonate perfectly only problem i experiance are the action changes when you dump the action raises. mine all float but they always stay in tune and ive made my own version of an ibanez backstop but dont like it adds way to much spring tesion
  2. i Prefer a scalple blade to skin my cats
  3. if you used three way mini switches on/on/on you would get all possible combinations but neck and bridge. why not change a pot to a push pull pot and wire the bridge or neck to that and get every combo hum/single/phase in every position plus each pickup combo a lot of work but would give you a better judgment on future wire jobs
  4. yes i just used regular solder and a 30 watt iron and i just have not installed the middle yet it will be there soon
  5. yes you need the ground no matter what unless you have a fully sheilded cavity. and i doubt its brass. i have a M.M floyd knockoff and its not brass. not even sure its aluminum more like a cheap pot metal as for the ground you dont need to solder it just sand/file a clean spot near a mounting screw and "Pin" the wire under the bridge as you tighten the screws
  6. would a compensated nut solve the g string problem every tuner i have tried including a peterson strobe sounded horrible to my ears and its always the g string if i tune to open chords then power chords futher up the neck sound bad and vise versa. am i just one of those people that suffer from from a perfect pitch ear? id really love to solve this dillema cause it drives me nuts and yes my intonation is spot on to the peterson thats why i always wanted to try buzzes system i figured if Joe Satch uses it then it must work well
  7. not trying to burst your bubble. just trying to help but they can be wired to a preamp but they still wont be "active" here are two links the emg link says nothing the stew mac link states it in quotes like i said im just trying to help with this info http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...For_Guitar.html http://www.emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?...;catalogid=154#
  8. well i found my problem and its not the pickup the amp no longer has any sound ill figure it out and get back to ya's on this setup but here is a pic of the pickup. i belive i bought it from guitarheads.net on ebay. sounds great by the way http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d38/femf...tar/rich002.jpg
  9. i hope you can see how i did this in these pics. i dont know if other people solder the seems all the way around or not but ive had no problems yet take note of the heat shrink on the switch and pots i doubt ill ever have a short circut with this setup http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d38/femf...tar/rich001.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d38/femf...tar/rich002.jpg
  10. these emg's are not active nor are they like other emg's if you are just looking for an inexpensive change they are fine if your looking for a "HOT" pickup keep looking as these are kinda mellow if your looking for a hot cheap humbucker thry GFS on ebay i had one and it was great for a cheaper replacement also do a forum search you will find others
  11. just one layer and you will be fine just cut into peices so that the bottom and sides are seprate peices. i put the bottom in first then the sides making sure i have at least an 1/8" overlap then solder the joints together when done right you can remove the ground going to the bridge like i did so i dont have to worry about getting shocked by the strings if my amp go's phooey on me ill post a pic of my current project to give you a better idea as ill be posting pics of it anyway
  12. hey Pete no i did not rewind the pickup and only used one coil yes it had a lot of feedback but it was sustaining very well notice i said was..... i dont think the coil liked 70 volts as it no longer works......ha ha but im gonna try again on the second coil as it was a twin rail humbucker that was only 15 bucks my question and i know it's probably been posted more than once how can i isolate it from feedback im not sure of the impedance of the amp at its 70 volts as i originaly stated it was a small 20 watt radio shack pa amp that has 4/8/16 ohms and a 70 volt output and i only tried the 70 volts cause i read the original infinate guitar ran at 100 volts. the guitar i have it in is completly copper sheilded with no ground to the bridge so i was not was not worried abut getting shocked ill make sure im set to record it when i rewire it with the other coil so you can hear it when i kick the wah forward and make it screem
  13. in got it and i got it good i used a cheap blade pick up from ebay as the driver i used a digitech rp 6 with the grunge cranked into a little 20 watt radio shack pa using the 70 volt output to drive it. worked awsome although i dont remeber the phase of the pickup so i dont know what mode it was but........ when i kicked in the wah pedal it went nuts i was able to take it from sustain to mad harmonics with a rock of the foot i did not have time to try other effects but will and when i get a chance ill post a sound clip and a pic of the mess that is my system. while it is out board i can live with it
  14. do use the copper it is the best sheid you can get search the threads for more info donbenjy. sorry you had trouble with it but it is the best i have it in all my guitars its a pain in the ass but well worth the effort
  15. this should give you what you need http://www.floydrose.com/instructions.html
  16. metal makes more sustain than most woods
  17. http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/diagrams/2005/RGA121.pdf there are a lot of options. check dimarzio's site or guitar electronics.com
  18. i must correct myself one wire and the ground sheild to ground the other single wire to hot. bou the noise that would have made makes me cringe
  19. it still looks like a single coil one wire is the start of the coil the other is the finish and the strand is ground sheild one wire and the strand to hot the other wire neg as far as in phase out of phase i have no clue wonder how it would work as a sustainer driver lol
  20. ive never heard one and it probably sounds like junk but cort made one in the past. and i remember seeing guitars like that in a j.c penny's or a sears catalog i dout they were any better
  21. Please take note of the above replies if you like your guitar and remember this if a ugly women can be a great lay then an ugly guitar can be a great play or this one maybe john wayne bobbit's bonner worked better before lorana tried to cut out the ugly vain that ran thru it lol
  22. not center and only 19" a little limiting i guess im lucky in that the exotic woods company is a quater mile from my house so i can hand pick
