    It's best to stick with a single type and brand for your whole project. That way there won't be any problems. But, the only time I would even suggest a mix match is when the particular products in question have been proven to work together. CMA

    I'm sorry for the confusion. When I said paint, I didn't mean "paint". Paint is sometimes used as a generic term for finishes, where I come from. What I meant was, what type of finish do you want to use? Nitro, acrylic, urethane, etc.? CMA

    I wonder if some apply them too heavily too quickly, causing a much slower cure time? There is some discussion about that here: http://www.reranch.com/reranch/viewtopic.php?t=20513 DGW, I understand that you dislike rattlecans. That's fine and dandy. But, to say they should not be used at all is wrong. Many hundreds of folks have used rattlecans (which, in and of itself, is a vague term; there are many types) with great success. If one does not have any equipment, there is no reason he can't get a great finish with rattlecans. CMA

    If I recall correctly, acrylic is supposed to cure quicker than nitro. If you want a quick finish, nitro isn't the best choice. CMA

    Thanks for the tips guys. Prostheta, the phrase "method to the madness" was used more in jest than anything else. I don't have any fretting problems right now, I just thought it would be a good thing to know. CMA

    I've seen a variety of glues used. Usually CA glue or Titebond. I'm curious to know what you guys think the best choice is? Is there a method to the madness? CMA

    I would use nitrocellulose if you're relicing or going for vintage. On the band saw v. jig saw, I'd go for a jig saw. It's a little extra work (I've done it myself with no problems), but I don't think it's a good idea to get a band saw unless you can afford one that is relatively nice, IMHO. CMA

    Just to clarify, I know a scrap test doesn't tell you what will happen down the road, which is why I added that it has been done, without issue, by others. Finishes that are well over a year old, and no trouble as yet. I'm not saying it is a good idea (at least, as a general practice), but he can make up his own mind. CMA (Edit: You are right in that all acrylics are not equal in formula, even if they are in name. It would perhaps be better to specify the ones used by the folks I mentioned. Most, if not all, of them used either Dupli-color or Rustoleum colors.)

    I know many ReRanch members have used nitro clear over acrylic colors without issue. I don't know if it's guaranteed to work, but I would certainly test it on scrap before trying. But as syxxstring said, it is best to stick to a system (though, I to have heard many bad things about dupli-color clear). You might ask the folks on the ReRanch forum about their experience with nitro over acrylic, as well. CMA

    You could simply go with a 16" radius. It's a popular choice and anyone who does radiusing can do it. The difference between a 16" and a 17" radius is minuscule. CMA

    The pickup rings seem to have grown on me as well. I think I'd like them more if they were stained. It's hard to say honestly. It's not that I dislike them, I'm just having a hard time really liking them, if that makes any sense. CMA

    I think the pickguard does add a touch of class, but you can't go wrong either way. I'm not sure how I feel about the pickup rings though. CMA
