  1. take it somewhere else.. my strat is SUPER hot, the gain is so high I can hear my voice sometimes.. and it has no HUM.
  2. not snotty at all, very sound advice, and its exactly what I need.
  3. BTW heres my teacher's bands myspace.. he plays mostly bass in bands, but hes on keys as well.. weird.. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endID=115221672 most of the time when I walk in hes playing classical though.. recently he bought a kramer bass amp bigger then anything ive ever seen.. had a steel horn and was padded in leather.. we call it, "Thunder in a box".
  4. my piece of swamp ash has the same grain as white ash. just weighs hella different, plus the grain is more a orangish brown...
  5. well, I know that if I made my own box from cardboard it would of been cheaper, but after a he packaged everything I didnt think I had the option to bail...
  6. i like rashins, but I see not having a finish become a problem later..
  7. well you do, but without knowing. IE chord names, scale names(my first was a-minor V) and whatever without knowing exactly I was doing. I've learned notes and fretboard locations, but when I stop playing I start forgeting. when I was in the third grade I could play piano. I learned a few songs, mainly Beethoven. but I couldnt tell you what keys are what notes anymore.. A female friend of mine on the otherhand, started playing the background music to goldeneye 007 as she talked to someone on the phone who was playing it.. suddenly, I was like... is that bond? in the water caverens?!?(I played way to much) anyway, I had a talk with my teacher.. I told him that I enjoyed playing with him, and the licks I was learning were fun to play, but only challenging untill I played it a few times through. And that I needed to learn either what it was I was playing, or somthing that will let me learn and improve on my own, otherwise I was just going to get a book. We copyed some major and minor arpegios down, and im going to play those through and force myself to learn what each note is corisponding. along with a few songs I want to learn, and some that are challenging enough that it will take me a while to learn.
  8. omg matt.. that **** was expensive as hell to ship.. UPS raped me anyway.. SO I cut it 26" and the rest, and used a bigass box.. went to USPS and it was $36 for just that one, and 28 for the other.. i was like f that.. went to UPS and it was 31 for one and i didnt even ask for the other. so I went home. cut it again and brought them up to UPS. then they charged me for a box 3x the size I needed(they said they could cut one) but I was like F-IT it needs to go. 49.99 USD to ship plus 11.76 USD for the damn box.
  9. maybe he has a real fender, and de a refinish? or replaced the neck? from fenders website: http://fender.com/support/faq/index.php#q9 Is it possible to get a replacement decal for my old Fender instrument? In many cases, the answer is "YES!" To help us achieve the best match of available decals, take at least 4 clear photographs of your instrument, (the entire front, entire back of the instrument and a close-up of the front and back of the headstock). This will help us verify that it is indeed a genuine Fender product in need of a replacement decal, (if the instrument has the serial number stamped into the neck plate, please include a pencil "rubbing" from the neck plate showing this number). Next, take the photos along with your guitar to the nearest Authorized Fender Service Center, where they will evaluate the instrument. After comparing the instrument with the photos, they will then mail the photos and neck plate rubbing to our Product Support team in Scottsdale. Once we receive the photographs, we will try to find the most accurate decal for that instrument. We will then send the appropriate decal to the Authorized Service Center. Note: Decal availability is limited to certain models, and while Fender does not charge a fee for a replacement decal, the Fender Authorized Service Center may charge a fee for providing this service to you.
  10. I dont know about the water thing, but for my flamed maple piece I used a super sharp router bit, cut with the grain and went slow..
  11. most perl is not deep enough to take a scallop.. unless it has that clear plastic over the top to give 3D depth.. but I doubt thats the case. just start doing the things you want.. start with this refinish, then make your own body with a pre-made neck, then move to making your own neck.. trust me, I was only half way through my first body when I had realized all my mistakes and decided to make another one at the same time...
  12. what I recomend is drawing a "safe" line onto the body. usually arround the bridge and pickup routes. then again on the sides of the guitar then id rough up the paint(asuming your using a solid color) and attack it with a surform and a microplane(a long surform) start with the rounded off edges at whatever angle you want the carve to be.. the rest should be self explainitory as far as art/tech goes.. once you start modding, you will start wanting to do inlays, and re-wiring, and bridge mods, and everything else.. eventually you'll end up with a fret scale, a 150 fret cutting setup, $500 in random luthier tools and be like.. ***?
  13. make legs for a desk? maybe a baseball bat? no but seriously, I cant see a use for guitar building..
  14. whats that big chip??? and is just the mahogony with the laq from menards?
  15. oh I know.. but some times it gets tiresome.. Id rather play styles of music, instead of learing how they all work together.. im pretty much at the point where I have to start learning it, becuase besides sweep picking(witch im starting to learn) I dont really have any bounds..
  16. what I mean, is the sound the same as when the guitar is unplugged, and you roll your finger over the input on the cord. same sound when you have a bad ground...
  17. well I plan on doing it daily, also, playing a full scale really takes no time at all.. I just couldnt imagine spending a hour on just those.. maybe a hour on the 3 together, but still.. and whenever I play I end up playing for 3hrs anyway lol.. and thats the kind of advice I need, thats just a prelem... thx!
  18. So Ive been playing for almost 5 years, and I can play pretty much any style. I dont really learn songs though, I just learn bits and pieces. for the past year I've been going to a teacher, and Ive finaly realized, that Im learning as much as if I were simply playing with a friend.. Im still going, because he helps with simple things that I dont think to learn(IE weird triads, and how they relate) I really want to improve, and I think a better routine would help me. I had a decent one when I first was learning, but now im falling off. heres what im thinking: 10 mins: Major, Minor and pentatonic scales 10 mins: various major/minor Arpegios 10 mins: Chords, and chord shape throughout the neck 10 mins:some really hard song(for me) that I play, and will play for a few months untill I dont have to look at tabs. 10 mins: of another one, different style(IE canon in D, then little wing~SRV) 10 mins: Some popular song that I can learn fast, and I play this all week long, so I get used to playing it all the way through ( this being because I hate going places, and having people aske me to play stuff, and I have no clue what to play) I can do this while watching tv or whatever when I get home.. any other advice?
  19. when my old volume pot went bad, Id turn it below 4 and it would sound like I was playing in a can.. try changing the VOL pot and see what happens.
  20. does it sound like what happens if you touch your fingertip to the side and top of your cord? try it with distortion if you dont know what im talking about. or is it a jimi style feedback? I have a loose ground connector in one of my pickups at the switch, I know its there and I know how to fix it, but im lazy.. it sounds like that...
  21. id find a temperd mirror, that thing will shatter into a billion pieces..
  22. search telecaster CAD or go to http://www.guitarbuildingtemplates.com im sure he has a tele set.
