  1. Uh oh, got a link? I'm curious to see this....
  2. Almost makes ya think it's fate sometimes.....
  3. Well you could leave the tenon in if you want, but really, it's gonna be the best idea to take it out, then route out a rectangle and fill it with a perfectly sized piece of wood so that there aren't any gaps.
  4. I was gonna ask you about the work top too. What's wenge effect exactly?
  5. I have worries that the magnets are gonna mess with the pickups. Make sure and let us know how they work out.
  6. I just noticed that those are steinberger tuners. Why did you put those on there? Those are really expensive aren't they?
  7. You don't have to avoid it on your first build if you have the right tools and are willing to build the right jigs. All you have to do is make sure you know how much you have to take off the top. The way you'd want to do it is have/make a jig that holds a router above the table so that you can slide it around to thickness wood, there are a few around on the site. Then you can set it to the depth you need (but only take like an 1/8 inch off at a time or so), just make sure you don't take off the fretboard. To avoid that you could do it before you put the fretboard on, or you make a template the size of the end of the fretboard with the same taper and whatnot and just clamp it on and run a bearing bit along it. Just as a side note, it's easier to do most of what you need to do shaping wise and fretting wise and all that BEFORE you glue on the wings, I made that mistake and am going to have a bit of trouble when it comes to fretting. If you do it that way it'll be easier for the wings too, cause you don't have to worry about avoiding cutting through anything. Hope that helps
  8. No, there shouldn't be any problem with shaving it down. As long as it's holding well with the new screw placement (and it should be) removing the wood there won't make a difference.
  9. ...with braces....hehe Looks "good" John (as good as a corvus can be anyway )
  10. That's really cool to see how it's done. I actually got to see this board, as well as a cool bullet hole mirror one. It didn't have any frets on it as of a few days ago when I saw it. It looks really nice.
  11. If it's a classical neck it probably doesn't have a truss rod, so it won't be able to take the tension from metal strings. Now I'm sure some out there do, but most don't as far as I know.
  12. Order your electronics and measure them, then you'll know for sure if they fit......
  13. Well, a quick google and it looks like you might have the colors mixed up. I can't say for sure cause what I found is for a kent armstrong humbucker, but I should hold true. It says that red is hot and the black should be connected to white which would connect the two coils together, then the remaining green is to be grounded. So, if that's correct, then you should attach the red wires to the blend pot tabs, connect the black and white wires together, and ground the green ones with the bare ground wire. Here's the link I found http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/I-ARMSTRONG.html
  14. One of the Rio Grande pickups is supposed to sound very good when split, can't remember it off the top of my head though.
  15. Well, if you can tell it's not in tune, then it's bad. As far as the nut goes, do not tighten it down, the pitches change a little when it's tightened and without fine tuners on the bridge you'll never be in tune.
  16. Ok, I see two, maybe three major problems, and at least one small one. First is as already mentioned the tune-o-matic is angled WAY too much. It should be offset an 1/8 inch on the bass side, you won't be able to tune it up correctly at all the way it is now. Second is the neck angle (this is the maybe problem) did you angle the neck so that it will line up well with the tune-o-matic? If not take a look and you should be able to shim it easily. Third problem is big one. You don't have any wood on either side of the neck. This will make it easy to move around and it probably won't ever be very stable, so you'll have tuning problems. The minor problem is that with the open control cavity it'll be easier to get dirt in there and the pots may get scratchy. So, on the up side, that's a really cool shape, I like it a lot. Oh, one other suggestion, and this is more personal preferance than anything, but in the future you might want to put the humbucker in the bridge and the single in the neck, the sound tends to be better balanced that way (depending but in general that's the case). The neck looks really nice as well, did you make that or buy it? And what's with the floyd nut?
  17. Don't do it, simple as that. All those parts are powder coated, not painted in the first place, paint won't stick very well and if you were to sand through when prepping you're gonna have a bigger problem. I would say work on the image so that it can be painted around the floyd and just don't mess with it.
  18. A rasp and a spokeshave is handy for shaping the back of the neck. Router and various bits for the truss rod. Drill for the holes. A set of files or something similar for the nut. Fret saw if you're making your own fretboards (I'd say go preslotted though, lots easier). Really it sounds like you should have everything or almost everything.
  19. WOW, that's incredible. And I see you're from michigan, where at if I may ask?
  20. It's cause it was a prebuilt neck and that's how it came. That turned out really John
  21. You seem to be having a little too much fun there....hehe Lookin' great
  22. RestorationAD, we should all chip in and buy it and send it to Pete, just to mess with him
  23. The Browns haven't been worth a darn since Pal Brown left the team back in the early 60's. If only the team would have stayed put instead of moving to Baltimore, they'd have had an SB trophy now. Yeah, I know, my dad and I weren't too thrilled when they got moved.... Paint's lookin' good. Is that table a foldup table by Huskie? Cause it looks like one I have.
  24. One other thing I noticed with the fretboard mockup (just in case you didn't think about it) don't forget that the inlay can't go all the way to the slot, if you wanna see the whole inlay, the fretwire has a certain width.
