  1. haha pleaassee I cant wait, This is looking awesome man!
  2. So I drilled the peg head holes, and started to fret the guitar but something came up that made me stop, its going really well though, all my frets seem to be seated perfectly so far.
  3. I build actual strats sometimes too, there outline is identicle so i just call them both "strats" haha. I'm gonna make my own shape one of these days so that i can call it something other than a strat.
  4. Just a hard tail now but later I will route for a trem. The SG is still going on, I just got pretty busy and forgot about it and because i didn't get much interest i stopped posting.
  5. Heh, I hate having to play lefty, but its either lefty or nothing for me, my left arm is a little messed up. It does look really orange, I love it though. I'm just oiling this one, I think, all my guitars have hard finishes and that soft compared to other spanish cedar I've used.
  6. the "black" binding is just plain old thick stewmac black binding. i should probably add that its not really sanded or finished yet.
  7. This is just a basic carved top strat with a curly spanish cedar top, poplar back, black binding, curly maple neck and a rosewood fretboard. It's not done yet, but it is getting there. Hope you guys like it.
  8. this is how i do it http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=917894
  9. Your work is incredible! I love your creativity.
  10. ^THAT! that is a great shape for the pickguard.
  11. hey guys, just wanted to update you all. Winter is here which means i should probably start this thing up again. I need to fine some place to buy cheap spruce for both bracing and tops. I have every jig necessary. Ive built too many electrics over the summer, i just wanna get this thing rolling again. I might start the neck so that I can get in the acoustic building mood . My progress as of now only includes bending the mahogany sides. I might switch to this insane curly spanish cedar I have but not until I get one acoustic done.. Updates soon hopefully! -Carousel
  12. that guitar is sick! well done man! I love the body and headstock shapes, and the nice clean work. I need a flying V!
  13. Yea, I know what you mean, Ill go with the hole next time i guess, I just like the clean look it has with no hole though . I just gotta fix that neck issue, where do you think i should carve the neck to? 16th fret?
  14. So four times a year tops, and that to me is no problem. whats it take like 10 minutes?
  15. I don't like the notched out of the end of the FB look either, I might try that next time though. I build guitars, taking the neck off and adjusting a truss rod shouldn't be a problem for me, how often do you have to adjust your truss rods haha?
  16. stewmac dual action rod accessible at the heel haha, I like the look of the headstock with no hole better.
  17. Ah interesting, The 23/24is overhang though. Oh! okay i realized what The problem is.. When I was building thus guitar I had to shave a little wood off of the body because the blank wasnt long enough. I shaved maybe a quarter to a half inch off of the neck pocket so it looks bad. Ill just do a little more carving, Ill carve it out to the 17th fret I guess.. my mistake..
  18. I ended up just using car lacquer, I didn't wanna bother with the poly.
  19. I still have work to do on that I guess then.. I have another strat neck that is carved up to the exact same point, thats what I modeled this after.
  20. Getting close to finished.. fixed the cutaway finished the pickguard etc..
  21. Yeaa i see what you mean about the fret access. Im going to deepen the cutaway and reshape the back tomorrow (I routed around a quarter inch off of the back because of the neck pocket screws not being long enough, and me not wanting to buy new ones.) Everything should be done by tomorrow I'd imagine. just have to do some pickguard work reshape the cutaway and the back and sand.
  22. Here are some more pics of where its at now.. i dotted the board, fixed the neck pocket, routed the cavity made the pickguard etc.
  23. ^Probably because its his last name or something. I think you did a great job. The finish looks nicely done and overall it just looks like you did nice clean work. Great inlays!
