  1. The body is pretty thick and its only routed for one humbucker and a hardtail bridge so not much wood is being taken away. it should be balanced pretty well. If It becomes a problem I'll weight the body, but I think it should be fine.
  2. This one is a pretty basic build. Just using up some spare parts I have laying around the shop. Basically, its going to be either a cream colored or white strat (2 piece poplar body) with a solid rosewood neck (beautiful wood). The pickguard will be black and all hardware chrome. Not much to it. So here are some pictures One question though.. I will be spraying a polyurethane finish on this one, probably minwax waterbased poly or target coatings waterbased poly. I still have no idea what type of paint is compatible with these finishes.
  3. its not a constant bevel. it changes as you go across the body because it gets shallower and deeper.. using a router is not the right way to go about beveling an sg if thats what your wondering.. atleast in my opinion..
  4. I just did an sg and used a rasp for the edges.. its not really finished but yea. still gotta use a scraper on it etc
  5. WOW ormsby... i kinda see how your doing it.. quick question though? where do you get the kandy coats? are they just clear with dye in them?
  6. This is probably the best looking guitar I've ever seen. The wood is absolutely amazing! I love the contrast between the neck and body as well.
  7. bevels done, heres a quick mock up... just need to use the scraper on em... oh yea.. also i finished the pickup routing and the bridge holes.
  8. wow nice looking guitar, how long did it take you to make?
  9. hmm did you use pins or nail to do it?? regardless of how you did it it looks amazing, very impressive.. how does it look in person? can you tell its fake? quick question do you have a cnc yet.. if not do you still hand inlay the headstocks or do you get them done for you by a shop.
  10. haha ormsby i love how the response to the grain is so different here than on UG... hilarious... i thought it looked good anyway...
  11. here it is now.. neck pocket is done
  12. sounds goood! i love dyed ash tops with nice glossy clear coats.
  13. Wow that carve is absolutely perfect! I think im gonna have to use something like that when i make my lp.
  14. Looks good, so what are you thinking for a finish??
  15. Finally some progress to post.. i scarfed the neck cut it out and glued the fretboard on... i also made a truss rod cover cavity out of some leftover mop and cut out the 21st fret inlay which is yet to be inlayed. pics http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0806.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0809.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0810.jpg
  16. I kind of dropped this build for a while but now I'm starting it up again. I wasn't really happy with the old neck for some reason so i decided to go with a birdseye neck.. right now im just gluing the scarf so no picks yet, but when i get it cut out ill post some.
  17. God that is a good looking guitar! I love It! Very clean work.
  18. Over the past few months ive been looking at my guitar rack and out of the 6 guitars that i have i realized that I only play 3. So now to get back into building (I've been too busy to do anything recently) I've decided to fix up some of my older builds, and get them playable again. Since I want to just ease into this Ill start with one that won't require too much work. Some of you may remember my thread for this guitar a while ago Well, the guitar didn't come out as well as I'd have liked. The finish ended up pretty bad, and the fret job wasn't pretty. So now with the experience I have now I'm gonna give it a new finish a refret and a good setup. here it is after I dyed and bursted the top. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0792.jpg I realize that there is a large amount of orange peel, my sprayer wasn't cooperating.
  19. http://ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthrea...ght=carousel182 That's how i do it every time. it looks to me like you just didn't carve it deep enough and your carve didn't go far enough into the body.
  20. I've had absolutely no time recently to even start on this, hopefully I will have enough time next month to get this finished up
  21. Love the walnut top! to get the bushings out I usually put a screw in the bushing through the hole at the bottom and screw the post in. It forces the bushing out.
  22. The sanding step gets rid of the straight line.
  23. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showp...amp;postcount=7 Thats a tutorial on that carve I did a while ago, It's not that hard to pull off actually.
