  1. lol thats true. I know what it is . I'm not creative enough. You guys come up with so many good designs and all I can come up with are boring strats . The next guitar I build for myself will be wild, mark my words. Of course that will be after the strat im building for someone else, and an acoustic. I haven't had much time recently to do anything.
  2. So while playing today I realized something and it made me sad this guitar isn't 24 frets its 22. Oh well. Does anyone have any idea what this guitar is missing? It just seems like it missing something to me. I think I just need some more exciting designs.
  3. heh I hate having to play lefty. I'm actually a righty but I cant (due to my left hand) play righty so I'm forced to play lefty. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0184.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0185.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0186.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0187.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0188.jpg note: The picture that is displayed does not capture the color of the top due to the lighting. It's much brighter than that. You can see the real color in the first finished pic I posted (http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/stelmach1117/DSCN0178.jpg). I think I'll have to take some in sun light
  4. more pics will come when i fix my camera. here are some specs one humbucker (I'm changing it to an emg) tung oil back hand rubbed burst coated with polyurethane curly maple top poplar back birdseye maple neck EIR fretboard gotoh strat trem gotoh tuners left handed abalone inlays (just dots on the fretboard letters "JS" on the headstock) 24 frets
  5. I am definitely trying this out, and i think i have a tractor supply locally. Nut making is something ive been delaying learning for a while due to me not wanting to buy the files.
  6. My guitars are not original at all, but I've definitely seen many original guitars on this forum man.
  7. I too got my blanket from omega, great deal, good blanket.
  8. Hey, I did a neck through similar to the way you wanted to do that set neck http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSC00101.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/IMG_2457.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...ch1117/s079.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/IMG_2455.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/Untitled.jpg Those are some pics during construction to give you an idea of what I did.
  9. I really like that card inlay what'd you use for the red and black on the cards??
  10. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0168.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0169.jpg well here are some pics of it now, i sanded off the white and went for an oiled back, I'm pleased with the results as its a very nice piece of poplar, i don't know why I didn't do this from the start. I kind of messed up the top when i was sanding the back a little, thats why in these pics its not 100% buffed.
  11. Hey, I think when I attempt this (in a month or two most likely) I will carve it out with a rasp, and then use scrapers to get the surface good for gluing. I'll vacuum press the fretboard on it (I'm not sure if its going to need any bending done to it first so that it glues down good enough.) One question: what type of truss rod will work in this type of neck?? Thanks, Carousel
  12. This helix neck thing really interests me. I have problems in my wrist and this would make guitar significantly easier for me to play. Is there a way to do this with no CNC?
  13. Hey guys, I've been using this waterbased polyurethane 9000 from targetcoatings.com. I'm spraying out of a fuji hvlp sprayer, and i want to know, what would be the best type of paint to use that would be compatible with the waterbased poly, I've tryed auto paint but I believe I'm having some compatibility issues. I really like using this stuff because of the fact that its waterbased and I'm spraying in the house. If worst come to worst though, I could always use nitro. And if I have to do that, what kind do you guys recommend. -Carousel
  14. I really don't care if anyone posts in here to ask questions. There are a lot of good replies in this thread that could be helpful to anyone thinking about building an acoustic.
  15. I took no pictures and have since destroyed the jig and made it into templates and stuff. The fixture was basically the same as Mattias I believe. And I believe there is a picture of that in here. Oh yea http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0151.jpg its not really sanded at all, thats going to be this guitars fingerboard.
  16. I put a JS on one of my electric necks because all the others are bare lol. I gotta come up with something good one of these days when I'm bored. I hate when stewmac ships with usps its terrible. I'm still waiting for my base to inlay the pearl into this acoustic fretboard that i just made yesterday (25.5" scale 20 frets)
  17. What does your logo look like rich? I'm still trying to come up with a decent one.
  18. my birds (copied off of PRS) my first attempt at inlaying something(cut out with coping saw) http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0142.jpg huge coping saw blade compared to the tiny jewelers saw blade http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0143.jpg the wedge http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0140.jpg my sides in the mold (finally something on my acoustic lol) http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0144.jpg my bird pattern http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0138.jpg
  19. Hey guys, I've finished cutting out my inlays, I used these scroll saw blades that i had laying around, they fir perfectly in my jewelers saw, the problem was though, that they dulled very quickly for some reason. The stewmac saw seems really comfortable to me, I just use a v wedge clamped to my workbench (Well its a workbench when all of my woods, bodies, necks, parts, tools, etc arent scattered on it.) I used to cut alot of stuff out with the scroll saw, so this come pretty naturally, I love working with small saws. Ill post pics of my work space, the inlays i cut out, etc. up in a few minutss when I can find my camera.
  20. Ill have to keep my eyes open. Guitar making, or any type of wood working is not a popular thing in my city. I've found a pearl supplier thats 20 minutes from me but on their website it says you need a minimum order of 300$, so I'm hesitant to even check it out, it's probably more expensive than most online sites.
  21. Hey rich, I have the stewmac frame, I just ordered 4 dozen more blades and one of their dremel bases. i ordered 2 dozen fine 2 dozen medium. Inlaying seems like its going to be an enjoyable activity. I used a coping saw to cut out my first inlay after i used the jewelers saw I'm amazed i got by with the coping saw even for the small inlay that i did.
  22. Well, i broke the 12th blade on my last bird. That sucks. Now I'm going to have to wait to finish this up. Ill probably buy 3 packs of fine blades and a pack of medium blades.
  23. thanks Mattia, I'm cutting some birds out right now. I think I should have bought more than a dozen blades though, I've already killed 3 blades on the first two birds(I'm starting with the smallest ones so that I can get the hang of this.)
  24. Hey, my jewelers saw arrived from stewmac along with the pearl. Its enough to do the prs bird inlay that im planning. But I'm wondering, how do you attach the blades to the frame and get the blades to be tight. What i did was tighten the blade into the bottom section, put the blade into the top section, bend the frame by pressing the top and bottom sections together, and then tightened the top section. when I stopped bending it it was on there pretty tight, was this the right way to do it. Sorry if that was hard to understand.
