  2. i mean i know, i do know the specs, but stuff i mean regarding the pre-amp is stuff like what the company who like, who endorsed it, is this a well known maker / amp etc..... and surely some opinions on the mesa? i cant belive nobody here hasnt got anything to say about it.... so, please guys?
  3. ok, i have recently purchased a pre-amp to start my rackmount rig....... its made by this company called Metalhead Electronics and its called 'Elan MKII'......... the pre-amp was built in North Hollywood, USA (d'uh! )........ basically i've found nothing on it, but it appears to be a rare boutique pre-amp.... and i was wondering if you know anything at all about it.... from what i've found jst by looking at its components, is that its a 2 channel SS amp, with 5 12ax7 tubes, which makes it an ultra hybrid amp, as its the tubes that overdrive the circuits.... i foud this baby for $200 on ebay......... steal of the century secondly i'm looking for a power amp to go with it, and from my research mesa 20/20 looks to be just perfect....... what do you think of it? i mean i really need all the opinions i can get on it, as the cheapest i coudl get one would be about $450 used (i think...).... would there be any other suggestions? i'm aiming to get a tone taht'd sort be a cross between Vai and Petrucci.... so yeh, any help would be much appreciated! thanks, Roman
  4. http://www.accesswave.ca/~derekn/dreamland...rosebridges.htm this is Derek's site....... one of the best prices i've seen anywhere ps. see that 7 string OFR? guess where its gonna go hope this is of use, cya round mate
  5. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=33046 the inlays
  6. ^thats got to be one of the best maple tops i've EVER seen - its how the quilts are matched up so well....... damn your project looks v nice too - thats a nice chunk of wood you got there mister! what finish are you thinking?
  7. Hmm... locrian with a natural 6th? That's a mode of the harmonic minor scale. You trying to Yngwie-ize the blues? hehe i suppose so but it does make for some great blues STYLE playing in my opinion, if used very sparingly (like 1 lick every two mins or so ) that steve morse idea is great though, i find it really useful (when i'm not playing licks form harmonic minor modes ) - though a word of warning - be very wary of that maj7......... it can sound very very dodgy over the m7 chord of say A (if we're key of A) even if its just one note in a 2 octave run....
  8. i'm sorry but i dont dig the 'old bluesmen were poor'...... they were; but thats what the times were like. its an excuse not to learn theory, with which i dont agree. besides IMO blues does sound more interesing when you DO know what you're playing - sure its based on pentatonics, but for me an occasional locrian nat 6 run doesnt go amiss..... spices things up. but thats me......
  9. how much would you settle for in pounds?
  10. according to most tone freaks, tone is 'thinner' ever so slightly with a FR tremolo, but its not very noticeable at all....
  11. lol, when i saw the title i thought you meant these Chechen terrorist bastards! cool wood though. weird name
  12. wow, this is just like Zakk Wylde's axe turning up too! great news
  13. best locking tuners are schaller locking tuners i think. i ahve some with a brass (open nut) and a OFR.... and strings dont go out of tune one bit...... and i'm a hefty floyd abuser what do they do? with the aid of a mechanism, with acts like a needle, which pushed the string in the tuner 'hole' thingy right to the top....... basically holding it secure, so that the string does not slip, causing it to go out of tune. did i explain that well enough? post 200! ADVANCED MEMBER..... w00t
  14. wow that wood top is AMAZING great work remember its not too late to rerout it for a Floyd Rose yet!
  15. i know i know water is dangerous, but this is why i gotta try it out now...... i've managed to get it to look nice on the pictures..... however it only looks like that at the 'right' angle, if you know what i mean. is there any way to make it look like tha from all angles?
  16. ^thin top as i'm modding a body, and thats the only way without having to cut off 1/4" off the body..... anyway i glued some offcuts on some scrap wood, and i've done the first finish, and i'd like some feedback to whether its good, etc (i will do many more experiments with dyes, etc) (sheet on left is unfinished) i sanded the veneer with 200 grit, then dampened with some water, then applied my finishing mixture (50/50 mix of clear gloss varnish and cellulose thinner), then sand with 800, then reapply.. 3 coats. whadda ya think?
  17. walnut - inexpensive? anything but, in my experience.
  18. heh, looking forward to that wes.. but hopefully i'm gonna be done before then! looking forward to taking on your green maple top in GOTM in a couple of months time ey that is if mine doesnt decided to rise up on me
  19. dont recomend it. FRED doesnt have enough low end to be used in metal, enither with Paf Pro. i mean they're Satch's p-ups of choice.... his tone is hardly metal is it?
  20. thanks for the useful advice. this is what i'm leaning towards now: green / black finish liek this one with possibly black burst round the edge, inner cavities sprayed black (or green), and the circuit board in between p-ups! the flames are actually very close to the ones on this PRS, so i could emulate it with reaonable success i think..... matrix meets flame maple..... ooh yeh : whadda ya think?
  21. right, thanks. sand flat, then finish FAST with 'thin' coats. i'm gonna go shopping for dyes and translucent paints tomorrow, to experiment with finishing, what type of dye and what type of paint do i need? and then just a coat of clear laquer, yup?
